Alexa will be at our event August 19, 6-7 PM at Bond Vet in Kips Bay! Alexa is an 8-year-old, 12-pound female chihuahua / maybe dachshund / maybe pug mix from LA. Alexa is a super easy dog! She’s got a typical chihuahua personality in the sense that she just wants to be with her human all the time! She’s very chill (aside from wanting to crawl up on her foster's lap every time she's on the floor with her), quiet (she whimpers sometimes but it only lasts a few seconds) and doesn't seem to have separation anxiety when left her home alone for a bit. Alexa's foster says she's great with anyone (loves people!) and she hasn't shown any reactivity towards men or children on walks. Alexa is always happy and tail wagging and friendly with all the dog and cat friends in the home. She walks well on a leash and does her business outside. She is housebroken and crate trained. Alexa would be a great dog for any first time dog owner, or anyone who’s looking for a chill canine family member to add to the home!  Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordatella. Spayed. Needs heartworm test and microchip. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption or foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. Simply attach your completed application to an email with the dog's name in the title, and send to: Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org Fosters: volunteer@waggytailrescue.org PLEASE NOTE: Dogs marked "Adoption Pending" have an approved adoption application on file and are awaiting final approval. Please check back in a few days to see if they are still available! We understand you may have questions but the fastest way to get answers is to fill out the application and the foster parent can answer any questions you may have! Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. ##1186924## show less

Ambrose is a 2-year-old, 9-pound male chihuahua / terrier / mixed breed dog from the NYCACC. He was terrified in the shelter, but has blossomed in his foster home.  Ambrose is a really smart boy and picked up on using pee pads very quickly, as well as going potty outside. He's only been in foster care for a couple days so we are still learning more about him. He co-exists with his four-legged foster siblings, but we believe he would do best as an only dog.  The best home from Ambrose would be with people who understand that certain things like being picked up without warning are still scary to him and who give him the time and patience to grow his confidence. He's already fallen in love with his foster and even sleeps on her.  Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and bordetella. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Flea and tick prevention due 11/15. Heartworm prevention due 11/24. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Barbie (AKA Barb) is an incredibly sweet 16-pound, 5-year-old chihuahua mix from Alabama. Barb is a cuddle-bug once she gets to know you and demands all the pets! She is quiet and watchful so be careful tripping over her. She is a people dog and while she has done well with her foster brother, we recommend only homes with adult dogs and older children. We do not know her experience with cats.  Barb is skittish with the sights and sounds of the city but is rapidly overcoming her fears. Barb is looking for a patient family who will continue to work on overcoming her fears of the big city.  Barb is still weary of doors but is motivated by chicken! Barb is potty trained and has not had any accidents in the home. She is fully crate trained and has done well on her own, both in and out of the crate. Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, bordetella, and lepto. Spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Chase is a 5-year-old, 13lb papillion mix! He is medium energy, housebroken, neutered, had a recent dental cleaning, is crate trained, and usually is quiet. He is an affectionate, smiling, and happy-go-lucky little guy. Adopters with some dog experience preferred (more on that below) (or newbies willing to 100% follow instructions from our preferred trainer) - must be located in the NYC area. Chase has a history of fearful behavior with strangers. However, he does not display this behavior with people he trusts and has never nipped his foster. In new situations and with visitors, Chase will do best when his choices are limited and his owner manages him using a leash or crating him when friends visit. As a southern boy, he is still getting used to the sights and sounds of the big city! Chase needs to be muzzled at the vet, but accepts grooming and baths without muzzling or incident.  Chase will thrive in a stable, structured adult-only household with consistent daily routines.  The payoff is worth it: kisses all day long!  As you can see in his video, he enjoys short games of fetch. Chase's other favorite activity is having his silky coat brushed every night.  No children, cats or other dogs at home, please.  Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PPv, and bordetella. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Recent dental cleaning. Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention due 10/20. Checkers (M) and Takumi (F) are a pair of 7 week old, 2 pound kittens that came to Waggytail after being found as strays when they were just a few weeks old. Can't tell them apart? Took their foster mom a little while too.. Here's the trick: Takumi has a tight black mask right around her eyes and Checkers' mask goes farther down his cheeks.Extra trick: Takumi is in the light blue collar and Checkers is in dark blule :) These loving, playful angels would make a wonderful addition to any home. Checkers was brave from the start, quickly letting his curiosity guide him through his new home. His sister, Takumi, was a little more cautious - she was nervous when approached and hid when she felt overhwhelmed. Many treats later (plus a vote of confidence from her brother) she followed Checkers' lead and began exploring and playing confidently. They both grow more comfortable each day, happily accepting pets, cuddles and snacks. While they can get up to a little bit of mischief like most young kittens, they can most likely be found napping in their favorite spots or waiting for their human to come back from the kitchen. There isn't much else to add about these babies, except that their forever home should be so excited to experience their love and watch them grow.  Vaccinated for FVRCP. Next round due 10/22. FELv/FIV negative and microchipped. Needs neuter and rabies when he is of age. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Cotton is a mature 2+ year-old, 12-pound female domestic shorthair cat. We are usure of how old she really is since her history is a mystery to us but we know she is beautiful for whatever her age is! She was pulled from the NY ACC last month and has settled in well with her foster dad. She is overall a very pretty and sweet girl who would be a great addition to your home. Her foster dad says: She is very easy going and affectionate. She enjoys the occasional toy time and naps often. She likes to rub past her human often to let them know she's still around :D She gets excited about her meals and likes to nibble throughout the day. She likes to follow me around the house to see what I'm up to. At night she tends to sleep at the end of the bed or on the couch. She will let you pick her up for a quick cuddle and then she likes to be put down again. She does like to sit next to you on the couch and watch TV. Loves a nice head scratch too.  Cotton is a well mannered and gentle girl who would do well in a loving and calm home. She has not been fostered with cats, dogs, or children so joining a family with furry (or human) siblings would need a controlled and respectful introduction. Vaccinated for rabies and FVRCP. Neutered, FeLV/FIV negative, and microchipped. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Creston is a 12-week-old, 2-pound male domestic shorthair kitten. Creston is a sweet and energetic boy! At first he can be shy but once he opens up he is cuddly, playful, and always curious. Found as a stray, Creston had a head injury where he was hit and hurt his skull. Waggytail pulled him from the NYACC to give him the chance to heal in a foster  home environment. We're happy to report that he has fully recovered and a playful healthy cat. He is very affectionate, likes cheek & belly rubs, and is always purring. He likes to curl up and sleep on chairs, desks, and right next to you or in your arms. His favorite toy is a stuffed ball that he is endlessly entertained by as well as pencils, ribbon and string toys. He likes to be near people and would do best with someone who could spend time playing with him and petting him. He also likes heights and to climb (he will even pull himself up onto window sills, beds, and couches). He is the sweetest cat and he deserves a home where he will be loved! Creston will need to a hme with another kitten or playful cat at home.  Vaccinated for two rounds of FVRCP. Next round due 11/3. FELv/FIV negative and microchipped. She can be shy and cautious at first but she will be ready to snuggle next to you in a day or two. She is an independent gal who is content to keep herself amused during the day while you work. She enjoys her walks but LOVES snuggling next to you more and getting her head/chin scratches. She’s never shy to get your attention and will use her nose, paws, or lick you to let you know that. She’s timid and gentle, she also likes going on walks and meeting new friends. She gets along well with people of all ages and other dogs as well. We call her Detective Kiara because she’s very curious, attentive, and alert. She sniffs and checks everything out indoor or outdoor. She would investigate every inch of your house before she can trust you.She is house trained and comfortable being left alone in her crate. She knows how to sit and walks ok on a leash but still needs a reminder sometimes. She would love a patient adopter who can allow her the time and space to slowly open up and build trust. Lucy is a 5-month-old, 10-pound female chihuahua mix from Tijuana / San Diego. Lucy is one of the sweetest pups her fosters have ever met.  Despite her rough start in life as a stray from Tijuana, she could not be more friendly and loving. She is playful, curious, and spunky, but also loves a good nap. Lucy gets along well with other dogs and is currently being fostered with one. Even with a buddy to keep her company, Lucy still gets a little nervous when her parents leave, and tells them this by barking and whining. Her foster is working on this day by day through crate training. Lucy is getting the hang of housetraining, having the occasional accident as she adjusts to her foster home. She sleeps through the night and is still learning how to walk on a leash but shows good potential for training (she loves treats!). Lucy is a sweet, funny, silly little puppy who needs an adopter with no young children (they make her nervous) and is willing to continue training on basic manners and help build her confidence. Norman is a 2-year-old, 20-pound lovebug mix from Texas! He's super affectionate and loves to cuddle. He has true young-dog energy and is so curious and excited by the world around him. Everytime he goes on a walk, Norman makes a half dozen new friends -- both human and dog! He is completely house-broken and has an adorable habit (when left alone) of building a fort around his bed. He will bring shoes, clothes, paper towels, dog toys, and pile them up around himself. He has never damanged anything, we just think he's being a sneaky collector! Continued crate-training or keeping him behind a baby gate will likely fix this cute habit.  Norman is the perfect size for an NYC apartment. He's great on a leash, and enjoys both long walks and quick runs through the park. He is also vocal (a typical hound!) and will let you know when he has a need!  Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped.   Meet Rex! Rex is a 2-year-old, 12-pound male chihuahua mix from Texas. How foster writes that Rex is “as close to perfect as you can get, I say that confidently with no trepidation”. He is potty trained, quiet, amazing on a leash, dog and cat friendly, loves his crate when told to go in at night to sleep, doesn’t chew anything, easy to bathe, hops up the stairs like a bunny rabbit, and loves to sleep during the day with the occasional “hi” while I’m working from home. He is the most turnkey dog you could possibly find, all while being in a convenient carry-on size. I would say if you decide to adopt Rex, you’re signing up for a companion rather than a dog- sitting calmly with him on a bench at our favorite coffee shop or by the West Side Highway has become the highlight of my day. Skylar is a 7-month-old, 10-pound chihuahua / dachshund mix from LA. Skylar can be a little shy when you first meet her, but she bonded with her foster right away. She warms up quickly and warms your heart with her sweet puppy eyes. She is playful, sweet, and affectionate; a true cuddle bug lap dog. If you hold her up by your face, she likes to snuggle her head on top of your shoulder. Skylar is protective of her family and wary of strangers at first (mostly barking), but warms up to them with time and patience; she calms down when you hold and comfort her.  Skylar loves to walk on a leash with her family. She is fearful of some of the dogs she sees outside, but loved her foster family's dog right away. She LOVES to play with toys, and cuddle up in her dog bed next to her foster fur sister. She allows her foster parents to take things away from her - no guarding at all - even taken right from her mouth! She walks well on a leash, and although she has had a few accidents, she is just about fully housebroken. She is crate-trained and sleeps in her crate all night without a peep to disturb her family.  Skylar would be a great fit for anyone looking for an older puppy -- she will need some continued basic training as a young dog, but will fit right in wherever she lands. *Skylar is being fostered in suburban NJ, so adopters should be able to meet in the suburbs, OR Hoboken or Jersey City (accessible by the PATH)* Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and bordetella. Tuna is a 3-year-old, 16-pound chihuahua mix.  Sweet Tuna is an owner surrender—through absolutely no fault of her own. She’s a sweet chihuahua-dachshund mix with floppy ears and mostly she enjoys lying down on the couch and watching her foster dad work. Tuna attached quickly to her foster dad and doesn’t mind having her foster mom and brother around either. She’s a huge cuddle bug and and likes to snuggle under the sheets, and puts herself to bed in her crate when she's ready for it. She’s fully potty-trained, knows how to sit well, and walks well on leash. She’s generally disinterested in other dogs, and does not try to get any sniffs on walks. She’s the perfect NYC dog—a great companion for long walks and knows how to relax at home. Tuna occasionally barks but does not have an aggressive bone in her body. Tuna does have a touch of separation anxiety - she barks when left home alone - and is working on training, and will do best with an owner committed to that ongoing training. Tuna is a great dog who will shower her forever home with a lot of love and a lot of cuddles. Vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention due 11/24. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails!
