Shelter Information

Kitten Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization devoted to finding loving homes for unwanted, homeless cats and kittens. We rescue cats and kittens from the streets of Los Angeles and from City Shelter euthanasia. Since our start in 1997, we have grown into one of the largest, most well-respected animal welfare groups in LA. Kitten Rescue volunteers adopt out over 1,000 cats and kittens into homes every year. We educate the public about responsible pet guardianship, how to care for kittens and cats, and the importance of spaying and neutering. Kitten Rescue makes educational material available via events, print, school presentations and here on our website. We also provide Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) assistance for communities in and around Los Angeles, and teach people how to manage and care for feral cat colonies.

DOB:  8/1/19 Say hi to a handsome cutie who wears his heart on his sleeve (or on his back in an orange pattern)! Ace is a friendly, lively guy and an overall great housecat. He is litter box trained, uses his scratching post properly and enjoys humans. Ace is playful and energetic at times and is happiest when his foster mom spends some time playing with him with strings and toys. He gets spurts of kitten-like energy, and would be fun for kids who know how to properly play with cats!   He enjoys being pet by his owners, will rub up against you to say hi and often naps on his foster mom's chest. When he's sleepy he is the sweetest and cutest boy in the world (see pics). This guy loves to hang around his foster parents, but is still a bit shy around new humans who enter the house. He may hide a bit until he warms up to new friends. He was found alone, living in the streets. So, he's really enjoying being an indoor boy again!    His favorite things to do are eat (he is a hungry boy!), play with toys, and perch on windowsills. He gets energetic and playful in the mornings, but will tire himself out and nap in the  afternoon. You can often find Ace following his foster mom around the house and when he's happy, he will joyously leap. It's quite charming. He craves human attention, but wants it on his own time, like most cats do. He can entertain himself when needed. At night, he won't bother you to enter your bedroom if the door is closed and he'll sleep fine on his own. He's also adorably talkative and will tell you when he wants to be fed with food or love. Ace would prefer to be the solo kitty in the household, but can tolerate a dog who ignores him and allows him to do his own thing. He is very food-motivated and would possibly do well with treat / clicker training. Overall he will be an amazing addition to your loving household! DOB: 7/3/21 Adzuki is a high energy, confident little girl, who is as social with humans as she is with other cats. Like her brother, Fava, she plays hard and then rests hard—and will do so by climbing onto your chest or lap for some snuggles and a super loud purr of affection. “Zuki” excitedly responds when you call her, and will run up to you to engage in a game of chase if she is in a playful mood, or to willingly accept a snuggle when she’s getting sleepy. She has an epic purr and always wants to relax near or on her human friends. If you don’t have any other pets, please consider adopting Adzuki with her brother, Fava. They adore each other. DOB: 7/7/21 Aloha is totally independent. He prefers being on his own, running around after his toys. He has a very hearty appetite. He has been known to finish his brother's food. He will come sit with you for some kisses and pets but will run off when he's had his fill. Every time he sees me he greets me at my feet and waits for his 'hello' head rub before running off to play. He loves to climb up and perch himself on your shoulder. He likes to be the tallest in the room!  He is cautious and will sit back and observe before he commits to playing with someone or something. He is for sure an observer. Aloha also loves to play 'follow the leader' with his brothers too! He watches what they do and then follows behind them as to not be left out! He must be either adopted into a home that already has a friendly, playmate kitty or adopted with another kitten. DOB: 4/25/21 Amanita is a friendly, confident little firecracker who purrs to the touch and isn’t shy about asking for attention. She is lithe, active and chatty, always moving to the front of a group for attention and negotiating pets. She was raised around people and is very comfortable with new people and situations. If you’re looking for a curious, big personality kitty you can have a conversation with, Amanita is your girl. Amanita is a medium-high energy kitten, initiating others easily and giving everyone a workout. She can be a bit dominant at playtime, initiating wrestling and chasing with others, but her siblings and friends meet her energy easily. She is very sweet with all her friends and makes new friends easily. Amanita is fully box-trained and on a very healthy grain-free/wet diet. Since she is young and playful, she will need to be adopted with a buddy or into a home with a playful companion. Her sisters are Bolete and Enoki, and she is friends with Mace, Dijon, Indium and Maitake. DOB: 4/15/21 Arthur and Buster are the inseparable brothers, almost twins but different by body shape and facial expressions.  Arthur is shy at first and skittish but once he gets comfortable he wants all the pats, rubs, and pets. He pushes his head into your hands as you cradle him and purrs ever so slightly. A true victory and day turned right when you can get him to purr. Accomplishments? Completed. Life? Full.  Buster is the daredevil and escape artist. He loves to cuddle on your lap, purrs at any human attention, and a true companion.     When it comes to play time, Arthur is very greedy with toys and Buster loves to tease him by taking them away. Such a caring and loving brother. These two can get wild by chasing each other up and down the house but at the end of the day they prefer a cuddle session before their naps. DOB: 6/11/21     Aryna and her 3 sisters were rescued from the streets as starving and scared kittens. A nearby home owner had very nefarious intentions for them and their Mama kitty. Luckily a very kind neighbor rescued them first and got them  to Kitten Rescue!  Now healthy and happy they are looking for their furever home!    Aryna is a very pretty, sweet little girl with slender, ballerina-like looks. She can play wrestle and chase with her sisters for hours and her purrfect adoption would be to get adopted together with one of her sisters Maria, Emma or Leylah but if you already have a young playful kitty that she can bond with then that’s great too.     Aryna thoroughly enjoys pets and affection though she can be a little shy at first until she gets to know you. Once she feels comfortable she turns into a little purring machine. She would do best in a small, quiet home with 1 or 2 adults to spoil her.  If you are interested in learning more about this kitty or in adopting her, please click here to email her foster parent. If you are unable to send an email to the foster parent through the link included above, please contact us and let us know what kitty you're interested in.  You may also fill out our adoption questionnaire to speed up the screening process.  Be sure to name the cat in the CAT PREFERENCE field at the beginning of the questionnaire. DOB: 10/14/20 Ash has been through it all! He and his sister, Misty, were trapped as kittens in a barn behind a school house in Northridge and then found their way to Kitten Rescue. They were adopted out as a shy duo as kittens and then returned when Ash contracted FIP. Because of a ground breaking medication that was developed only two years ago, Ash beat it! He survived and is doing incredibly well! He is happier than he ever has been, is outgoing, loving and craves pets! He is so incredibly playful! There is nothing that he loves more than being loved on. The boy will literally lean in for some love! Due to his shy nature, Ash would do best in a calm and loving home with only adults. Ever the explorer, Ash would love to have places to climb, scratch and perch. Easy to love and even easier to fall in love with. Ash would love to go to a home with another cat or two to play with. Misty his sister, is also available for adoption If you are interested in learning more about this kitty or in adopting him, please click here to email his foster parent. DOB: 7/2/21 Ash was one of two surviving kittens in a litter of 8 - all born under a car engine.  She is initially shy with strangers but once trust is established, she is quite playful and loves her toys!  She is a good eater and will meow to express her excitement when wet food arrives but also knows how to self regulate when dry kibble is left out all day.  She is an interesting shade of grey and the fur is oh so soft and plush!  While she is quite independent, she looks for her brother (Cinder - pic below) when he is not in sight.  As such, the ideal home with be able to adopt both of them together as they are a bonded pair.  That will certainly make the transition into a new home much easier.  She has been introduced to older children (teens) and has done very well as she is very generous with cuddles and does not mind being handled at all.  She immediately turns her purr machine on with just the right scratches to her head and bottom!    Please note that the initial FIV test came back positive for both Ash and her brother but they usually re-test negative at about 4-6 months of age.  Even if positive, this virus is NOT transmissible to humans or dogs and only transmitted to other cats usually in situations where a cat fight results in a bite causing saliva to be passed into the bloodstream.  If adopted prior to 4-6 months, Kitten Rescue will be more than happy to re-test these kittens for the adopting family when that time comes.  Also please note that these kittens are very healthy, eating and playing well, gaining as they should and are not experiencing any health issues at all right now.  In fact, they have had the least issues of all of the litters this foster has taken in thus far.  Ash and her brother will surely bring their new human family much joy and love with their sweet disposition. DOB: 1/26/21  Aster and Indigo are two amazingly adorable bonded brothers that are just as cuddly as they are playful. Both of these boys are very outgoing although Aster is the more energetic one of the two. Aster enjoys chasing his brother and foster siblings around the house and running through the cat tube yet he is incredibly affectionate and isn't shy about showing his love towards his foster Mom. He loves wrestling with Indigo, but once he spots his favorite human, he runs over to her and sits on her lap or perches on her shoulder.  He loves giving kisses and getting his tummy rubbed too. Indigo is the observer of the group. Although, he loves chasing the red laser dot or running through the cat tube, he loves sitting on the couch with his foster Mom just as much. He is a silly kitty with a very playful personality and will nibble on your toes in order to get your attention for pets. These two boys absolutely love humans and will snuggle with you all night long. This adorable pair have been looking for their forever home, together, for some time now.  Both of these boys are little purr machines and any family would be lucky to have these two join their family forever. DOB: 10/1/20 This sweet momma is ready for her own home and to be a “kitten”! She was a stray who had 6 potatoes young but now she is ready for the spotlight. She loves to cuddle and get belly rubs, probably grateful that she doesn’t have babies going for milk anymore! She does not do well with change, so I’m hoping she can find a home that does not have a lot of people coming in and out or is too loud. She would love to be an only cat, but maybe another independent furry friend would be nice. She would thrive with space to run and do her own thing, she feels confined with all her babies and would like freedom! She is so sweet and was the best momma, but it’s her time to find a home, we hope it’s with you.
