About Dayna

Dayna will be at our adoption event on 9/15 at The Wilson in Chelsea from 5-8pm Dayna is a 7 year-old, 15-pound female Terrier mix from Texas! Dayna is the SWEETEST girl and is ready to find her furever family. She is a darling little couch potato who absolutely loves her people, her foster siblings and her meals! She loves to stop and say hi to almost every dog on the street and her tail wags wildly with each and every meeting. Dayna had surgery to fix several abscessed teeth which had caused severe infection. At first, she was shy for the first couple of weeks, likely due to the pain she was in, but following the dental diagnosis and surgery. She has come out of her shell and started a full recovery and showing her cuddly and fun personality. Dayna is housebroken, does well with other dogs and we are not sure about how she would do with cats. Dayna would be ok with older children who are respectful. Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and bordetella. Spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal.  Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. Alexa will be at our event August 19, 6-7 PM at Bond Vet in Kips Bay! Alexa is an 8-year-old, 12-pound female chihuahua / maybe dachshund / maybe pug mix from LA. Alexa is a super easy dog! She’s got a typical chihuahua personality in the sense that she just wants to be with her human all the time! She’s very chill (aside from wanting to crawl up on her foster's lap every time she's on the floor with her), quiet (she whimpers sometimes but it only lasts a few seconds) and doesn't seem to have separation anxiety when left her home alone for a bit. Alexa's foster says she's great with anyone (loves people!) and she hasn't shown any reactivity towards men or children on walks. Alexa is always happy and tail wagging and friendly with all the dog and cat friends in the home. She walks well on a leash and does her business outside. She is housebroken and crate trained. Alexa would be a great dog for any first time dog owner, or anyone who’s looking for a chill canine family member to add to the home!  Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordatella. Spayed. Needs heartworm test and microchip. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in fostering or adopting one of our Waggytails! Visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption or foster application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. Please check back in a few days to see if they are still available! We understand you may have questions but the fastest way to get answers is to fill out the application and the foster parent can answer any questions you may have! Bashful is a sweet natured 8-month-old, 16 pound male chihuahua mix from Texas. He  was in a hoarder's home and is working on overcoming his fears. City life is scary for  this affectionate cutie so Bashful is looking for a home with a yard in the suburbs -and another dog sibling who can  show him the ropes. Bashful is  currently fostered with two dogs and he loves  running in circles around them, and playing catch outside. He needs his daily zoomies in the yard and wrestling with the other dogs!  Bashful is otherwise very quiet and sleeps through the night. He sometimes barks when he hears people outside the house. But once you tell him it’s ok, he's ok. His favorite spot is to curl up next  to his human.  He's happy to cuddle or hang out there all day while you work till you are ready to play with him or give him his beloved belly rub.  He's very shy when he first meets new people or in new environments, but if you go slow and are patient he comes around and will become your best friend. Bashful is housebroken. We don't know how he is around kids. You will absolutely love Bashful! Adopt him today! Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and bordatella. Neutered and microchipped. Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention due 9/1. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Meet Buddy! Buddy is a 3-year-old, 13-pound male chihuahua mix from the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. Buddy is ALL EARS waiting to hear news of his new home! He is a typical chihuahua who took a little time to warm up to his foster, but now that he has, he's very sweet and affectionate with her! He LOVES to play with toys and is VERY food motivated. A simple game of fetch or tug with his favorite squeaky toy is the key to his heart. In typical chi-fashion, Buddy can be protective of his person and wary of strangers, but is able to warm up with some time (and treats of course!). He has not shown any resource guarding with his human, who went slow until she gained Buddy's trust. New friends and family should take it slow when approaching Buddy, dropping treats along the way and allowing him to approach them initially. Buddy walks well on a leash and is very housebroken - he has not had an accident in his foster's home at all! He loves going for walks and sniffing around. Buddy will bark a bit when left home alone, but eventually settles down for a nap, and is generally a very well-behaved dog at home. He is being fostered with three large dogs and two senior cats and does fine with them. He would appreciate a playful fur-sibling in his forever home. Buddy is looking for an experienced adopter who can provide structure and training, since he can be possessive of his person and his home when someone enters his space (barking). He is a loyal, sweet little pup who would do well with an experienced and patient adopter!  Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PPv, lepto, and bordetella. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped.  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Doc will be at our adoption event on 9/15 at The Wilson in Chelsea from 5-8pm Doc is an 8-month-old, 8-pound male chihuahua mix from Texas. Doc is the sweetest, most precious boy! In a short period of time, he has shown tremendous improvement. He’s gone from a timid Texan to a more confident, playful, trusting, loving, and adorably vocal (potential) city slicker. He’s still adjusting to all of the scary sounds, smells, and people of NYC but with the right person and family, his confidence will continue to grow! He knows how to pee on pee pads (he isn’t as good as pooping on them), but he’s very smart. He’ll need help learning to walk on a leash because he’s not quite confident or comfortable enough to walk with a human especially in this crazy city. He will definitely follow you around once he’s comfortable with you and provide unconditional love in the form of cuddles, sniffing, slight licking, and the cutest jumps to try and greet you. He has a huge heart for a 10 pound boy! Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and bordetella. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention due 10/1. Dusty and Oliver are 10-week-old female and male domestic shorthair kittens. Both Dusty and Oliver are very affectionate and will lovingly curl up next to you. They’re easygoing and content to play together by themselves, but will also happily greet you with purrs and cuddles.  Oliver (black kitty) is playful, cheeky, and loves to eat. He’s often found prowling around with remnants of food or treats on his whiskers and face, and he looks to his sister Dusty to keep him clean. When he’s most relaxed, Oliver will roll onto his back and appreciate belly rubs. Dusty loves nothing more than tearing around after her little brother Oliver. She’s curious, and enjoys playing both with you and with toys! Dusty loves cuddling close to you on the couch and getting lots of pets to send her into a purring sleep. Apply for this adorable pair today!  Oliver and Dusy must go to a home together and their fee is $300 for both (plus a $200 neuter deposit to be returned once they are neutered). Adopters must be able to take them to their neuter appointment on 9/30 at Manhattan ACC. George is a 1-year-old, 20-pound male corgi mix from Alabama.  George is a typical happy go luck guy who would love a family who can give him a lot of play time and attention. He loves following his people around the house, playing fetch, and going on long walks. George also doesn't hesitate to let you know that he is a lap dog! This guy has so much love to give and will make a loyal companion to any home.  George also doesn't mind resting in the crate when it's break time and also sleeps through the night in it. George is currently in a foster home with another dog and cats and even though he is very eager to play with everyone, he also knows to give them space.  Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and bordetella. Helen is a 6-year-old, 7-pound female chihuahua mix from Texas. If you're looking for a laid back, super sweet, quirky chihuahua that's a little rough around the edges, then this is your girl!  Although she doesn't contribute to the rent, she believes "what's yours is mine" and will gladly lounge on all furniture, including sleeping on your pillow. Helen is a total sweetheart and mostly wants to nap, cuddle, and follow her fosters around. She'll hop right into your hands and will flop over for belly rubs. She's blissfully untrained, but nobody seems to mind since she's so mellow. However, she is food motivated and starting to pick up on training. She's mostly pee pad trained and is improving her leash skills every day.  Although you wouldn't know it from how trusting she is of humans, this girl is a bit rough around the edges. She's blind in one eye but it doesn't impact her. She also seems to have experienced food scarcity at some point, as she's a big street snacker. She also has healed breaks in her rib and tail.  She's indifferent toward cats and likes other small dogs. She would love to be in a home with people who will share their furniture and appreciate her quirks. A small doggie sibling to show her the ropes would be a nice plus. Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention due 10/1. Lucy is a 5-month-old, 10-pound female chihuahua mix from Tijuana / San Diego. Lucy is one of the sweetest pups her fosters have ever met.  Despite her rough start in life as a stray from Tijuana, she could not be more friendly and loving. She is playful, curious, and spunky, but also loves a good nap. Lucy gets along well with other dogs and is currently being fostered with one. Even with a buddy to keep her company, Lucy still gets a little nervous when her parents leave, and tells them this by barking and whining. Her foster is working on this day by day through crate training. Lucy is getting the hang of housetraining, having the occasional accident as she adjusts to her foster home. She sleeps through the night and is still learning how to walk on a leash but shows good potential for training (she loves treats!). Lucy is a sweet, funny, silly little puppy who needs an adopter with no young children (they make her nervous) and is willing to continue training on basic manners and help build her confidence. Lucy can't wait to meet you!  Vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP. Microchipped. Needs spay and heartworm test (at 6 months of age). Nina will be at our adoption event on 9/15 at The Wilson in Chelsea from 5-8pm Nina is a 10-year-old, 13-pound female chihuahua mix from the NYCACC.  Nina is a sweet and even-tempered pup who would love nothing more than to find her forever home. She is a senior and completely blind, so it will take her a couple days to get used to your home. However, she learns quickly and it wasn't long before she knew the layout of our apartment, mostly getting around without trouble. Nina loves food. She has a happy dance whenever it is meal time, or when she knows she’s getting a treat. Nina was originally an owner surrender case from NYC ACC. Our first couple of days were rough - she was very confused, and very vocal about it. With the help of a little CBD on the 2nd night, she calmed down and became more comfortable. She now happily naps during the day, checking in periodically to make sure you are there. We gave her CBD a few times the first week, and since then she has been more relaxed. She still will cry in the car, but after three trips she is much improved and getting used to it. Nina is 99% house trained, with the occasional accident. She knows to go outside, but also learned quickly to use pads in our bathroom. As soon as the door is closed, she will do her business and make a noise when she's done. Once you let her out, she will gallop out into the kitchen, eagerly waiting for her treat. Due to her blindness and excitement for life, it's harder to walk her outside on the sidewalk safely (she gets very excited and would like to run everywhere and goes face first into bike pedals), but she does enjoy it and would do great in a yard. She has a halo, but doesn't like it, and we are slowly getting her acclimated to it.  In an ideal world, Nina’s owner would be home some of the day since she has a little separation anxiety. A house with another friendly dog would also be very helpful. She can be trusted alone, she'll cry and bark at first but soon quiets down. Nina is an easy and wonderful dog, and would make a great companion for anyone looking for a low-key, senior pup companion. Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and bordetella. Heartworm negative and microchipped. Needs spay. Flea and tick prevention due 9/6. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Norman is a 2-year-old, 20-pound lovebug mix from Texas! He's super affectionate and loves to cuddle. He has true young-dog energy and is so curious and excited by the world around him. Everytime he goes on a walk, Norman makes a half dozen new friends -- both human and dog! He is completely house-broken and has an adorable habit (when left alone) of building a fort around his bed. He will bring shoes, clothes, paper towels, dog toys, and pile them up around himself. He has never damanged anything, we just think he's being a sneaky collector! Continued crate-training or keeping him behind a baby gate will likely fix this cute habit.  Norman is the perfect size for an NYC apartment. He's great on a leash, and enjoys both long walks and quick runs through the park. He is also vocal (a typical hound!) and will let you know when he has a need!  Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Spayed, heartworm negative, and microchipped.
