About Finney

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. I mportant:  We're a small (but mighty!) volunteer-run organization. To be considered for one of our adoptable animals, you must first submit an  application  at stfrancisanimal.org. Due the high volume of applications we recieve, we can't guarantee we'll respond to each one. A volunteer will contact you within 72 hours if we think you might be a match.   Finney is a confident, loving, playful, bundle of energy who loves to play and go for long walks. Don’t let her size fool you, she’s a little energizer bunny happy to stand her ground. She loves to run around in the backyard, lay in the sun, or play with anything else that moves or will play with her.  Finney knows how to use the doggy door and uses it to go potty. She needs some training on the leash, especially when she sees squirrels or other dogs. Finney does fine with other dogs of all sizes when off leash but would do best with another active dog or as an only dog. She’s also fine with kids of all sizes and would enjoy the attention and play friends. Finney loves to snuggle up on the couch or lay on top of any cushion she can find to curl up. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Nirvana... the cat who is quite literally priceless! Nirvana loves to be cuddled and petted, likes to play fetch with toys, and enjoys jumping in the shower occasionally. He's talkative and silly, just like one would expect from a siamese, and has limitless energy. He loves literally everyone he's ever met- dogs, kids, and other cats. Although he seems to have too no understanding of 'personal space', which can sometimes irritate more mellow animals or cause problems if you work from home. He's curious and likes to 'test' things with his mouth. If he wants to play, he will let you know by bringing you a toy or running back and forth between you and the toy. Nirvana was extremely sick from neglect when he came to us. He was treated for an upper respiratory infection, a skin infection, a parasite called tritrichomonas, and labrinthitis in both ears. Several thousand dollars later, Nirvana is the healthiest he's ever been in his life! His head tilt and eye scar are permanent, but we think they add to his character. He will likely need a follow-up with the specialist to make sure that he has not regressed, but after his ear surgery, he's visibly more comfortable and gets around like a normal cat! Nirvana is no longer symptomatic of tritrichomonas and has tested negative, we were advised that it is not possible to fully confirm that an infection is completely cured. So, he may still be able to transmit tritrichomonas to other cats by sharing a litter box with them.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. show less

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Sammy the miniature poodle came to us last October after being surrendered at his vet. His back leg had been broken for 3 weeks, and was badly infected from urine scald. After recovering with cage rest, he broke a front paw hopping off a low sofa (which he had done many times before while playing with his doggy foster siblings). X-rays indicated it was actually a re-break...it healed on its own before he came to us, and rebroke when he hopped off that sofa. Poor Sammy! So, after two breaks, one surgery and 6 months of recovery, he was finally ready to go home. Sammy was adopted in April and, to make a long story short, he was returned to us due to aggression and not much indication of what changed his behavior. We've been working with a professional behaviorist to help Sammy be his best self again, but we need an adopter who will continue his training and be consistent with him.   Sammy is: - Super cuddly, loves giving kisses - Loves car rides - Great with cats and dogs under 15lbs. Good with gentle larger dogs with a slower introduction! - Very playful and high energy - Requires daily brushing and monthly professional grooming - Goes into his playpen on command with no issues. He seeks out the playpen on his own when nervous or tired. He may growl or snap if physically forced into a crate or pen.   His ideal adopter: - Is patient and has dog experience - Will continue working with our trainer and dilligently follow her recommendations - Has the skill or means to keep his coat groomed and free of knots. Expect monthly grooming costs to be over $70. - Is able to keep up with his high energy - Does not have rambunctious larger dogs.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. show less
