Personality: Alice is an sassy gal who enjoys being near the action and around people. She loves to play and enjoys climbing cat trees, chasing the laser light, and playing with wand toys. She still needs to learn some kitty manners and will try to play with people how she should play with toys. We're sure after some treats and a little bit of training she will catch on in no time! Although she loves to play and work for treats, she is not a big fan of massages. She can become agitated with too much petting, and prefers very short and light petting sessions around the cheek and chin. She will rub up against you in a show of affection and then roll around in a cute manner, but it is not an invitation for a massage, even with her very soft fur to tempt you. History: Alice was transferred to us from another shelter. She has a history of living outdoors that was shared with us from the previous shelter, and would benefit from an indoor/outdoor environment. Cat/Dog Skills: Alice has a history of becoming stressed and agitated around other cats. At this time she is recommended as an only pet in the household. We have no known history of her with dogs. Medical: This cat has a heart murmur of Grade 2 to 3 out of 6, where 1 is the quietest murmur and 6 is the loudest. There is no indication that this heart murmur is causing any clinical disease and no treatment is recommended at this time. This patient had a dental cleaning recently at HSSV. At that time the patient was anesthetized and all the teeth were cleaned with an ultrasonic scaler to remove tartar and plaque. The teeth were then polished to prevent premature tartar build up. The teeth were evaluated for fractures, and periodontal disease. Teeth that were determined to be unhealthy were removed.Alice's care has been sponsored by Matt Robbins! Angel is the sweetest little angel of a dog. She had a bit of a rough start but now is feeling much better. She loves a good nap, loves to follow you around the house and is a good canine sibling. She is not a fan of a collar but she is trying to learn to walk on leash with a harness. She loves exploring the backyard and like any Chihuahua, she loves to lay in the sun and soak up the rays. What did you implement for house training? Do you think it's working? Angel was diagnosed with having stones in her bladder that caused her to have accidents in the house. She had surgery to remove the stones and since then she has been perfectly house trained.Have you introduced them to a crate? If so, what kind of crate and what was their reaction? The only crate I have used was with transporting her back and forth to HSSV, and she sat quietly. And now she is the perfect little passenger and sits nicely in the passenger seat when we go for a ride. At night, she sleeps in her doggie bed and once the lights are out, she sleeps all night long. How many hours did you leave them home alone? What was their behavior like when left alone? The longest she has been alone (with my dog) is about 3 hours. There were no signs of anxiety. What is their behavior like with other animals? She has been absolutely fine with my dog who is about her size. We had one visitor dog who was a bit bigger and there was initial barking but she soon calmed down and all was well. What is their behavior like with new people and/or children? : She has been fine with the new people she has met.Is there anything else that you would like the new adopter to know about this dog, such as any special tricks or adorable traits? Angel was surrendered by her family with two other dogs. She was sad and withdrawn, plus at the time she had the bladder stone issue. In the last month, and since her surgery she has blossomed into a very happy little dog. She bounces and wags her tail and is enjoying life (especially tummy rubs). In her previous life it is believed she was fed table scraps but now has gotten used to dog food. Because of her bladder stones, she may require a special diet from now on. $100 of Archie's adoption fee is sponsored by the Mack family!$75 of Archie's adoption fee is sponsored by the Laita/Bradely Family!Personality: Archie is a very sweet and calm boy who loves ear scratches and belly rubs. He is very polite and a great companion. Archie pretty well house-trained but will need to be let out every 2-3 hours. He is great with new people and will warm up to them almost immediately.History: Archie is great with children as well as other animals. He has been living with a child, a teenager, two adults, and another small dog. He is very patient with kids especially younger ones. Although he isn't one to play, he is good with other dogs.Dog/ Cat Skills: Archie is pretty good around other dogs. When meeting new dogs he is very calm. While he has been living with another small dog he has mostly kept to himself. He has seen some garden cats and other small animals around our neighborhood and has barely reacted. He is mostly pretty calm around other animals.Leash Skills: He walks very well on a leash and almost never pulls. He enjoys going on shorter walks as he gets tired pretty easily.Medical: Archie has a significant heart murmur and cardiac enlargement. he has been to a veterinary cardiologist and diagnosed with degenerative mitral valve disease which is a common and age-related disease. His risk of developing congestive heart failure is low to moderate. We have placed him on a cardiac medication designed to improve heart function. The adopting family is strongly advised to have him rechecked every 6 months by a veterinary cardiologist. A monitoring and treatment plan is likely to significantly improve his quality of life and possibly his life-span.Archie has dental disease. This is very common in older dogs and Archie had a dental cleaning while in our care. Any unhealthy teeth were removed. Dental care is an on-going process that will need to be addressed for the remainder of his life. We also noted that Archie has a stiff gait in his rear legs. X-rays show that in the past, he had a fracture of his right hip that has since healed. At this time, he does not appear acutely painful in this leg and we are not recommending treatment at this time. The adopting family is encouraged to discuss this condition with their family veterinarian or a veterinary surgeon to determine the best course of treatment to keep him comfortable.Ready to meet Archie? Personality: Ashlynn is a sweet older puppy that can be nervous with new people and may try to move away at first. She warms up with a quiet slow approach and prefer to be able to come up to new people at their own pace, especially when yummy treats are involved. With some time, they will eagerly greet people with a tail wag and wiggles. Once they're comfortable they're a wonderful companion. A training scholarship has been funded by The Pedigree Foundation, to help Ashlynn grow her confidence during this sensitive developmental period she is in. History: Ashlynn was transferred in from one of our central valley shelter partners. Dog/Cat Skills: Ashlynn is afraid of other dogs, and can become defensive if forced to interact with them. She prefers to move away from other dogs at this time and keep her distance. Ashlynn will need to learn to build confidence around other dogs, starting at a distance, with appropriate canine calm role models. We have no known history of Ashlynn with cats. Leash Skills: Ashlynn walks nicely on leash in quiet areas where there isn't a lot of traffic/noises. She may need encouragement (with happy talk or treats) to walk on a leash around busy environments. Medical: This dog arrived at HSSV with evidence that she had sustained trauma to her face in the past. She has some small scars on her face that suggest a bite wound when she was a puppy. The right side of her face appears normal. The left side of her face is mildly affected. We suspect that she suffered a fracture to the left orbit (the bones surrounding the eye) and the left side of the muzzle, which has resulted in an asymmetry of the sides of the face. Fortunately, the eyes were unaffected, and her vision appears normal. We do not anticipate any long-term medical effects from these changes. They will simply add to her individuality. She has skin sutures at the tip of her tail that should be removed between 5/25 and 5/29. If you return to the HSSV Medical Center between these dates, we can remove the sutures at no charge. Bella is smart, affectionate, and loves to be with humans. She loves head scratches and rolls over for belly rubs, and she enjoys her walks. Despite her tallness, Bella likes circling her foster mom and following her around the house. Like all smart Shephards, Bella knows how to lift open the crate door if it is not latched properly. In foster home she was living with four other dogs, and she gets along with everyone. She is also a great listener; she does what she is told most of the time, except for medicine. She does not like pills; she will lick around whatever is wrapped around (meat, PB, cheese, hot dogs, etc.) and spits the pill out. Bella knows to sit, lay down, and comes when she is called (unless bath is involved, then she runs the other way). She is learning loose-leash walking and walking nicely(she likes to criss-cross), and she is taking the correction very well. Bella does get a little skittish with traffic and will dart or switch pathsto avoid the moving traffic. She is overall a good-natured dog. What did you implement for house training? Do you think it's working? Bella is potty trained and knows to go outside. She has not had any accidents so far, although she is on a potty schedule (pre-meals, post-meals, at bedtime) with the rest of the foster house dogs.Have you introduced them to a crate? If so, what kind of crate and what was their reaction? Bella is crate trained. She is not a huge fan of the crate, but she will go into her crate with treats. She eats all her meals in her crate. How many hours did you leave them home alone? What was their behavior like when left alone? Bella is always in the crate when she is alone in the house. Then, she goes to sleep or chews on a bully stick. What is their behavior like with other animals? Bella enjoys the company of other dogs, although she does need to learn her manners. She sniffs a bit too enthusiastically sometimes, but she handles correction very well. What is their behavior like with new people and/or children? : Bella loves people in general. However, I have not observed her with children. Primary Color: Tan Weight: 63.6 Age: 3yrs 0mths 3wks show less

Personality: Caroline is a very sweet girl who enjoys a laid back life. She loves to go on walks followed by lots of cuddles and belly rubs. Caroline enjoys meeting new people, once she has had a chance to settle into her new home, especially if it comes with snacks and lots of pets. She is looking for a home to call her own where she can be loved and treated like a princess that she is. History: Caroline came to us from Madera shelter back in March. She has been in a foster home where she has done great with all the residents and is a very sweet and low key girl. She would sit for treats and immediately welcomed visitors after her transition period. Friends and family would stop by just to spend time with her. Caroline was adopted once by a first time dog owners and returned two days later because they were not ready for a large dog. She is known to take couple days to get comfortable in new environments so giving Caroline her own space where she can decompress is recommended and once she has warmed up she will be your little shadow and feet warmer. A training scholarship has been funded by The Pedigree Foundation, to help Caroline and her family during the transition period. Dog Skills: Caroline can be selective about her canine friends. She prefers to peacefully co-exist with calm, confident male dogs. She hasn't shown any interest in playing with dogs, she prefers to just hang out. Caroline can be little bossy with young and/or timid dogs and she has shown strong focus towards small dogs. It is recommended that she goes home as an only dog or with a well matched confident, calm adult male dog.Cat Skills: Caroline has shown strong focus and willingness to chase cats. She is recommended to a home with no felines.Leash Skills: Caroline pulls on leash when excited. She is recommended to wear front-clip harness and would benefit from training on loose leash walking.Medical: Periodontal disease. This patient has been diagnosed with periodontal disease (also known as gum disease or dental disease). This disease is extremely common in dogs and cats, especially as they age. Periodontal disease occurs when bacterial plaque causes inflammation of the gums and eventual destruction of the bone in which the teeth are anchored. This patient had a dental cleaning recently at HSSV. Dental care is an on-going process that will need to be addressed for the life of this patient. My care has been sponsored by Troop 61142!My adoption fee was sponsored by my Foster Family!
