About Chispa

This love bug knows age is just a number! While Chispa may be considered a senior, she has the bright and bubbly personality of a young pup. This sweet girl luxuriates in her time around her human - hanging out and looking for cuddles, kisses, and all the attention she can get. She's a calm lady, and she loves slow walks so she can take her time sniffing around. She's housebroken, easy going and is very beginner-friendly when it comes to handling. She likes dogs and adores meeting new people and getting belly rubs from strangers on her walks. Chispa has hip dysplasia in both rear hips, which is degenerative, but the pain can be managed in relationship with a full-service vet. Because of this condition, Chispa would also do best in a home with few stairs, as her gait tends to be unsteady at times. If you want a buddy for cozy nights on the couch, you'll love Chispa!  Age: 8 years How I came to PAWS: Owner surrender Animal ID#: A49721 Weight: 38 lbs Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess.  Super snuggle bug with a bob tail. Looking for the Apple of your eye? Apple is a loving kitten with half a tail, but she doesn’t let that slow her down! Apple loves to be wrapped in a blanket and carried around the house. She will follow you wherever you go and loves being pet. Apple may be tiny, but she has a loud roar, and will let you know when she wants attention! She’s a whopping 2lbs, and will probably grow up to be a petite cat. While her favorite activity is snuggling, she does love to play, especially with string toys. Apple grew up with a foster brother, but he played a little rough for her size. She would do well with a gentle cat or dog to keep her company, or on her own if you are home often.                 Age: ~2 months old How I came to PAWS: found stray Animal ID#: A50321 Meet me at: PAWS Adoption Center 100 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 â€𡿏-238-9901 ext.30 **Our Old City Adoption Center is now re-opened, but with limited capacity (maximum occupancy of 9 people including staff/volunteers)! We are prioritizing any appointments made by already approved applicants, but can entertain browsers and walk-ins as that capacity allows (we just can't promise any same day adoptions).  Armadillo is quite the go-getter! He was found stray after wandering into a warehouse, possibly looking for work to pay off his meowntain of student loans, but sadly the job there was already filled by another cat (times are tough!). But no matter, he's now at PAWS padding his resume until he find himself a new long term career with an adoptive family! He likely isn't a fan of other animals, so he'd do best on his own, but is very social, affectionate, and friendly with people so he could slide into any home looking for some added customer service!  Is your cat looking for a wrestling partner? If so look no further...Baby Shark is your guy! This beautiful boy is the perfect mix of sweet and active. In his foster home he LOVED wrestling with the 6-year-old resident cat. He was not phased by rough play or the occasional body slam! After a hearty play session, he'll happily curl up on your lap for some pets and purrs.  You've never met a cat like Benny! This staff and volunteer favorite is the cheesiest, chattiest, cuddliest buddy to come 'round these parts in a long time. He was found with an injury to his back leg which required splints and cage rest since arriving at PAWS, but that never stopped him and his desire for pets and attention! He is mostly recovered now and is out of his bandages, but needs to still have his activity monitored and controlled as he rebuilds his muscle strength - and should have some follow up radiographs in the next month to make sure it all healed well.  We're sorry Ms. Jackson, but we are for real when we say that Big Boi is so fresh, so clean! It's all roses here while he waits for his chance to tour your home as a true believer in the ATL (Adopt Them for Life). This rough and tumble boy was originally adopted out in 2016 but now finds himself an outkast after being surrendered at a local vet office by...someone (his original adopter claims to have given him away to someone a few years ago, and he likely was given away again at some point).  Sadly, somewhere along his journey back to PAWS he was also front declawed (a big NO NO!), so he would greatly benefit from an experienced cat owner that can read the way he moves, and to help him shed a few pounds (the boi has clearly put a few skews on the bar-b) in order to take some weight off of his feetsies. He would do well as your only pet in a child-free home, since he is a little bit older and now more prone to using his mouth (without his claws) while playing or when he gets worked up. Big Boi is highly treat motivated and easily trainable (video link below), so with some patience and time he'll fit right in! His chirps are HOF worthy, as well as his devotion once he trusts you!  Do you love cats who love hard and play hard? Meet Big Boi! With him around, you'll never feel lonely. He's always nearby, chatting with you asking for more pets, play time, and treats.  Big Boi is full of fun - he loves to play and will do somersaults for affection! He's incredibly smart and too and takes well to training.  Nothing makes him happier than chilling in a room with his people after an hour of aerobics chasing toys up and around. He's incredibly agile and can do back flips and jump 3 feet in the air! He is so proud after chasing them that he'll carry them off with his tail held high.  Big Boi would enjoy being the only pet to soak up all of your affection! But he could also live with some other self-confident, rough and tumble wrestler cats with a slow introduction. He likes to give love and play nips on his people too, so it'd be best if he lived without young children.  Bodacious and beautiful Blanca is the bulky house panther you've been craving! Complete with an extra few toes - that's right folks, she's a polydactyl - this sweet and affectionate shy girl would love to get out of the shelter again and come home with you! Her last owner had to surrender her because they were moving out of the country and it wasn't feasible taking her along (getting the paperwork together during a pandemic was already hard enough, but she isn't the biggest fan of being confined to a carrier for that long). She loves to entertain herself with mice toys, and could potentially get along with another low key and social kitty - she just can't live with a dog. Blanca just will need some dental work after her adoption, likely a cleaning and maybe a few extractions, so her new family will need to follow-up with a full service vet within the first 6 to 12 months after bringing her home.  Age: 2-4 years old How I came to PAWS: Owner Surrender Animal ID#: A39935 Meet me at: PAWS Adoption Center 100 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 â€𡿏-238-9901 ext.30_____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  Say hello to Blimp! This easy-going pup is looking to retire in style somewhere with unlimited free back scratches. Do you know of such a place? While he’s rarely anything other than a total sweetheart, Blimp would still do best in a home without small children. It doesn’t matter if you’re the outdoorsy type or someone who likes to lay around most of the day, because Blimp is generally happy with both scenarios. At just 17 pounds and not especially vocal, he could be a good apartment dog. He loves to curl up next to people for those back scratches, after which he’ll usually find a cozy corner by himself. (He particularly likes to relax in a laundry basket!) He’s very easy to walk on a leash and he likes other dogs so much that he literally begs with his paws to meet them.  Blimp is totally housebroken and, although he does pretty well in a crate, he’s not destructive when left alone. He believes you can teach an older dog new tricks, and would love to learn some! Since he did not have a lot of formal training in his previous life, Blimp can get tense when being redirected and he will need an adopter that understands this about him. He can live well with other dogs and during foster care he learned to be respectful of a much smaller dog that needed her space. He hasn’t spent time with cats, but there is no indication that it would be a problem for him. Any adopter would be lucky to scoop up this happy and low-maintenance muppet!  Age: 10 Years How I came to PAWS: Surrendered due to owner health Animal ID#: 49731 Weight: 24 lbs Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess.  Well what about Bob? He started out making baby steps onto this finders porch, baby steps through a few weeks of treatment for a kitty cold, and baby steps towards getting more comfortable and social with staff at the clinic. He's healthy now and is a quirky staff favorite, and would love to find a home with an experienced cat owner to help work with him on some of those unique behaviors. We aren't sure if he was properly socialized when he was younger - he coos and purrs when you initiate petting, but bobs and weaves as if he doesn't know what a hand is - and is a bit of a food hawk, so he likely would do best as an only pet in a home without any young children. It doesn't take long to fall in love with Bob, even if he does always look like he can't figure out where he put his keys. Age: 2-4 years old How I came to PAWS: Found Stray Animal ID#: A49683 Location: Foster Care.  After a long year of staying home it's finally time to think about traveling again, and we have the perfect destinations to offer up you at our Grays Ferry clinic! After being found by a good samaritan as stray, Bogota was brought in with her siblings with some spotty hair loss which ended up testing positive for ringworm, so they are being treated and need to be cleared before getting spayed/neutered. PAWS will provide the necessary treatments and medications, so anyone looking to adopt them would need to continue their medical plan at home in an isolated and easy to clean space, as well as bringing them back to our clinic every 2 weeks for additional care. If you have the space and time, apply today!   I was found stray as part of a litter of 4 and would love to go home with one of my siblings also at the shelter  - Rio, Lima, and Sao Paulo - while we complete our ringworm treatments! Since the treatments can take some time, at least 1-2 months in most cases, kittens this young tend to do much better having a friend to play and socialize with while their contact with people and other animals is limited. Age: 1 month How I came to PAWS: Found Stray Animal ID#: A49883 Location: PAWS' Grays Ferry clinic. This is not a walk-in facility, so please email adoptions@phillypaws.org to set up a time to meet this kitty! **This/These pet(s) are currently being treated for ringworm, a mild fungal infection of the skin that usually clears up within 6-8 weeks of starting treatment. All the follow-up care we provide for your ringworm pet is free of charge at a PAWS facility while they finish their treatment with you, and we are with you every step of the way! You can learn more about adopting a pet with ringworm here.** **Because this/these pet(s) aren't yet altered, they are only eligible for adoption via our Pre-Adopt program, which will require an extra verification step as well as a $100 deposit per animal that is fully refunded after their spay/neuter surgeries. Any additional questions about this can be covered when you reach out about them!**_____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  Bootsie is a total ham, the type of cat you can bring home to momma (seriously, he would love the extra attention)! His owner was only able to keep him for a few months, but found him as a stray, so the boy has plenty of charm and confidence to spare. He'll even let you hold him like a baby! If you're looking for a new friend to cozy up under the blanket with (once that becomes a thing again soon), look no further! Age: ~9 years old How I came to PAWS: Found Stray/Owner Surrender Animal ID#: A50092 Location: PAWS Grays Ferry Clinic. Please email adoptions@phillypaws.org to learn more about this kitty! **FIV is specific to the feline species, and is not transmissible to dogs, humans, or any other animals. It is spread from cat to cat via mating or deep puncture bite wounds. Thankfully, all our cats are spayed or neutered so mating is no longer an option! Since FIV does not spread through casual contact like grooming, sneezing, and food/litter sharing, FIV+ cats can live with other cats that have tested negative as long as the cats get along without fighting._____________________________________ To adopt a cat, complete the application at phillypaws.org/catapp.To adopt a dog, complete the application at phillypaws.org/dogapp.            Please reference this animal's ID NUMBER when inquiring.  This Hunky Dory little face will make you fall in Modern Love with Bowie!  Breanna has had quite the ride so far in her life, but hasn't let any of that affect her loving and personable nature! After being found sick and stray she spent a few weeks fighting off colds before finally getting healthy, so now she is just waiting for her new family to share the love! Petite in stature and with her meow, Breanna welcomes you with head boops and biscuits for as long as you're willing to provide them! We don't know how she feels about other animals, so it would likely be good for her to start as your only pet until she settles in and you learn more about her, but she would likely do well in a home with older kids.     Age: 4-6 years old How I came to PAWS: Found Stray Animal ID#: A50144 Meet me at: PAWS Adoption Center 100 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 â€𡿏-238-9901 ext.30 **Our Old City Adoption Center is now re-opened, but with limited capacity (maximum occupancy of 9 people including staff/volunteers)! We are prioritizing any appointments made by already approved applicants, but can entertain browsers and walk-ins as that capacity allows (we just can't promise any same day adoptions).
