Jude is looking for a very special home. He is a cute 6 year old poodle and has a little baggage from his previous unknown life, that in time should become old unneeded baggage as he continues to learn his confidence and the wonderful world with humans. Jude can go into a home as the only dog, and if with another, one who is not too dominating, but more mellow and well tempered. He would like to have people who are experienced dog owners. and can commit to a consistent regimen and schedule, as well as solid management of some of his instinctual behaviors that are clearly improving through his fosters' activities. If in a home with more than one caretaker, everyone should equally share responsibilities and activities so he recognizes all adults as equal leaders. He has a tendency to seek ankles of those who enter a room unexpectedly or interrupts a calm setting, and it is typically warned with a bark, so is very manageable if the behavior is curbed before it starts. His tendency with ankles is not an aggressive move, but an odd obsession that has been successfully curbed with practice and consistency. Jude is a very sweet and sensitive soul and is seeking that person who can understand him and help him continue to be a happy and confident pet. If you feel you are a good fit to help Jude continue his journey to be a great boy, please reach to us for an adoption application. Jude will require brushing and regular visits to the groomer so that his coat does not become matted or overgrown. show less

Lynyrd came from a homeless man who wanted him re-homed. He loves people and bonds very quickly. Lynyrd is a loving, approximately 7 month old, playful, 40 lb lap puppy who loves to give kisses, play with his toys, cuddle up with his people and sleep with them at night. He enjoys car rides, taking in all the activity and quietly people watching. Lynyrd is a clever pup and, being food motivated, quickly learned “sit”, is learning to walk nicely on leash and sit before crossing the street. He loves dogs of all sizes (and cats) but can be overwhelming for smaller or senior animals because he has a lot of silly puppy energy and wants to play with them. Lynyrd would be best matched with another large breed dog and/or a large puppy saavy cat. Children in the home should be older and bigger to avoid issues with being knocked over during play. He is still a mouthy puppy so caution should be taken with children. It’s essential that Lynyrd’s adopter must have experience with large breed dogs and be experienced raising a large breed puppy in order to ensure he grows up to be a respectful, large adult dog. His adopter must be active for taking walks and hikes, have a private, securely fenced area for safe potty trips and outdoor play. He is a quiet boy who will let out a deep, loud woof if he senses something amiss or wants to get the attention of another dog for play. show less

Noni landed in a shelter after she was abandoned in traffic, at the age of 13 years. Almost blind and deaf, very weak, matted, flea infested, dirty, with mostly neglect related medical issues, she was unable to walk or even stand! Noni hasn’t looked back since leaving the shelter. She’s been too busy recovering and enjoying life! She eats like a little horse, is strong and walking well. She is in very good health and is mobile and alert, with the help of daily eye drops and morning arthritis medication. Noni is a sweet little lady who really loves to cuddle up to her humans, she will sleep under your chin all night and enjoys napping in a dog bed with a friendly cat. Even with her limited hearing and poor vision, she navigates well with her nose and loves to have a good supervised snoop outdoors for her exercise (as well as regular visits outdoors for her pees and/or a poops). “If she’s in wandering around mode indoors or we have to be away from the house, we pop a diaper on in order to avoid pee accidents.” With some arthritis and a tricky knee she has difficulty walking on slippery floors as her feet will slide out from under her. Noni requires daily brushing – which she adores - and regular visits to a gentle groomer so that her coat does not become matted or overgrown. She enjoys car rides and would be happy to accompany you everywhere and, at only 11 lbs, that’s easy. If you would like to open your heart and home to a deserving and very special, sweet, senior lady, have a safe and level outdoor area (Noni doesn’t do stairs), and no-slip flooring or plenty of area rugs, look no further. Noni is well suited to a home with cats but she tends to be assertive with other dogs so other dogs in the home have to be very tolerant of her bossy antics in order to be a good fit. Gentle, mature older kids in the home would be fine. show less

THIS IS A GUEST POST: Sophie was originally trapped for TNR. She is a small, semi-feral cat, approximately 2 yrs, 8.5 lbs, Silver Tabby, healthy (her combo/snap test was negative) and she is currently in a foster home. Here are notes from her foster mom: “Sophie is eating, cleaning herself, stretching, using her scratcher, and sitting on her little rug by the door while I’m in the room with her. She is frequently waiting by the door to the hallway when I arrive with her food. Her expression is always serious/wary. Today I fed her whole breakfast to her by hand and after she finished, she gave me a hard swat. ☺ She also hisses if you approach too closely with your hands. She has no interest in playing with toys except her Hot Cats catnip “sausage links” which she plays with when no one is around. She prefers kibble, eats twice a day and her digestion appears to be fine, regular every day. She’s very neat and clean with her litter box. Sophie will be fine with someone who won’t mind a kitty who keeps to herself, and may warm up more with patience and time. Since she came from a colony, perhaps she would do better if she lives with other cats. She hasn’t been around other cats since being trapped, except a neighborhood cat who visits with her through the security screen door. Her home needs to be escape proof.” Since she was initially intended for release back to a feral colony, Sophie was ear tipped. She must be adopted as an indoor only cat. This is a guest post so anyone interested in adopting should contact Nadia Grochowski directly nadia.grochowski@gmail.com show less

Healey Sprite was rescued from a horrific situation. Found abandoned and dying in a shopping cart. She has made HUGE strides and has rallied back both physically and emotionally. Sprite is a small, adorable 2 year old Chihuahua mix that is living life in foster with 3 other dogs and 2 cats. Due to her injury, underwent surgery to remove her eye, which has improved her overall health and happiness. Sprite’s ideal home is calm and steady, with other dog(s), cat(s), no children, and recent rescue dog experience. She may be shy at first but opens herself to new humans that lead with kindness, compassion, and show her that she is safe! Because of her missing eye and her past, she can be a little guarded and approach should be slow and where she can see the hand coming towards her. We will never know what abuse she may have to overcome in her past, and clearly the eye injury may be baggage from what may have been afflicted on this little being - thus she may continue to be a bit reactive from time to time, as her protective measure, but she will return her people's trust with lots of love and cuddles when she is feeling safe. A home with good dog experience is a must! This tiny, epic, Warrior Survivor is a world-class charmer and will make a giant impact on her lucky adopter’s life. If you feel you are a good fit - we look forward to hearing from you! show less

Tony was found stray, the victim of a car hit and run. He was taken to the shelter and The REAL Bark came in to rescue him. He has been evaluated and treated for some minor medical from his accident and is in good physical condition. Tony is in a foster home where he was rehabilitated, and is enjoying life in a loving home. His best fit home would be with experienced dog owners who can help him build his confidence. Tony is a wonderful snugglebug at home and thoroughly bonds solidly with his humans. On walks, he may bark at other dogs and some times new people due to a little bit of insecurity. He needs his people to help continue working on raising his confidence and lessening his over-excitement when seeing other dogs. Tony is crate trained and continued use at home for some crate independent time would be helpful to continue encouraging some alone time, minimizing any separation anxiety tendencies when his people leave. He may be a bit shy at first with strangers, but warms quickly and welcomes new hands for pets. At only 15 lbs he fits nicely in a lap! He would love a calm environment, cats are okay but no children (or those over 15 years old), to be the only dog, to have a private yard or quiet street, and dog savvy people who can be his leader and keep him safe, with patience and a commitment to working with him to be a happy, confident dog. He is eager to please and with the right setup and consistency, he can be the best partner for a lucky person! show less
