About Lucia Maria Sangria

Lucia was found stray and turned in to the shelter. This super sweet girl is a very alert and active 10 year old. At only 8 pounds, she is tiny enough to accompany you everywhere and would enjoy it since she loves all people and is good with other dogs. Our vet discovered mammary tumors during Lucia’s exam so she is having surgery to remove them but would love someone wonderful to adopt (or perhaps foster to adopt) and love her during her recovery and beyond. Lucia will require brushing and regular visits to the groomer so that her coat does not become matted or overgrown. She is working on re-learning house training after life on the street.

Jude is looking for a very special home. He is a cute 6 year old poodle and has a little baggage from his previous unknown life, that in time should become old unneeded baggage as he continues to learn his confidence and the wonderful world with humans. Jude can go into a home as the only dog, and if with another, one who is not too dominating, but more mellow and well tempered. He would like to have people who are experienced dog owners. and can commit to a consistent regimen and schedule, as well as solid management of some of his instinctual behaviors that are clearly improving through his fosters' activities. If in a home with more than one caretaker, everyone should equally share responsibilities and activities so he recognizes all adults as equal leaders. He has a tendency to seek ankles of those who enter a room unexpectedly or interrupts a calm setting, and it is typically warned with a bark, so is very manageable if the behavior is curbed before it starts. His tendency with ankles is not an aggressive move, but an odd obsession that has been successfully curbed with practice and consistency. Jude is a very sweet and sensitive soul and is seeking that person who can understand him and help him continue to be a happy and confident pet. If you feel you are a good fit to help Jude continue his journey to be a great boy, please reach to us for an adoption application. Jude will require brushing and regular visits to the groomer so that his coat does not become matted or overgrown. show less

Matteo is a sweet, playful, smart 3 month old puppy who is very eager to please. He knows sit, takes food/treats very gently from hands, listens well to correction and comes when called. He bonds quickly with people and likes to be by his person’s side but also thoroughly enjoys high energy play with other dogs. He would do well in a home with a large dog who has a good temperament to manage his energy, but can also be the only dog. Since he only has his first vaccinations, he would do best in a home with a private safe and clean yard, as he is doing very well with his house training and crate training (no accidents in the house yet, with regular potty breaks in the yard). He would not do well in an apartment, as he may bark a bit when first crated, but settles down, and also does not do well with pee pads (destroys them) and cannot yet be out on public ground for another 6 weeks (when he’s had his third set of vaccinations). We are looking for a home with solid recent experience with large dog breeds, and some experience raising a puppy with good structure and loving discipline to ensure he grows up to be a respectful adult dog. Like all puppies he is very mouthy and being fairly large, he has a big mouth, so managing that activity on a consistent basis is critical, and should be considered if there are younger children in the home (we recommend children over 12 years old.) Matteo is a lovely puppy (currently 18 lbs) and would be a great addition to anyone looking for a large breed adult dog (estimate adult weight at 65+ lbs). He will be neutered at 6 months. show less

Gentle Natalia was found stray. We believe she was neglected and kept isolated as she has little real world experience. Natalia is a very sweet, 2 year old, 15 lb, quiet girl who wants to be loved but is still shy with new people. She is learning so much to make up for lost time - how to trust, what toys are, to take treats by hand. She does well with other small dogs and is discovering how to play with them. Her ideal home would provide a calm environment in a quiet neighborhood for taking walks, preferably with a private secure yard or outdoor area for potty trips when at home. A home where she can continue learning to trust and to build confidence. Natalia could be the only dog or matched with another small, mellow, well-tempered dog. Older children who are not loud or rambunctious might be okay. She is not a barker but may bark when startled by sudden or loud noises (which do frighten her). Extra special care and caution must be exercised around fireworks times as we anticipate that she will panic and bolt if outdoors when they go off. Natalia is crate trained for overnight but does not like being crated during the day. However, she would be fine during the day if confined to part of a room if necessary. We are looking for people who have recent experience with dogs, or rescue dogs - she looks like a sweet easy dog but she does need some emotional rehab as she is quite fearful in general of the world. She is not 100% housetrained, and still working on learning how to be a pet dog. show less

Noni landed in a shelter after she was abandoned in traffic, at the age of 13 years. Almost blind and deaf, very weak, matted, flea infested, dirty, with mostly neglect related medical issues, she was unable to walk or even stand! Noni hasn’t looked back since leaving the shelter. She’s been too busy getting medical care, feeling so much better and enjoying life! She has been eating like a little horse, gaining weight, regaining strength and, her fosters say walking better every day. She is in very good health and is mobile and alert with the help of daily eye drops and morning arthritis medication. Noni is a sweet little lady who really loves to cuddle up to her humans, she likes to sleep under your chin all night, and nap in a dog bed with a friendly cat. Even with her limited hearing and poor vision, she navigates well with her nose and loves to have a good supervised snoop around outdoors (regularly visits the outdoors for her pee and/or a poop). If she’s in wandering around mode indoors, we pop a diaper on in order to avoid pee accidents. With some arthritis and a tricky knee she has difficulty walking on slippery surface floors as her feet will slide out from under her. Noni requires daily brushing – which she loves! - and regular visits to a gentle groomer so that her coat does not become matted or overgrown. She enjoys car rides and would be happy to accompany you everywhere and, at only 10.75 lbs, that’s easy. If you would like to open your heart and home to a deserving and very special, sweet, senior lady, have a safe and level outdoor area (Noni doesn’t do stairs), and no-slip indoor flooring, look no further and please write to us at therealbark@gmail.com show less

Healey Sprite was rescued from a horrific situation. Found abandoned and dying in a shopping cart. She has made HUGE strides and has rallied back both physically and emotionally. Sprite is a small, adorable 2 year old Chihuahua mix that is living life in foster with 3 other dogs and 2 cats. Due to her injury, underwent surgery to remove her eye, which has improved her overall health and happiness. Sprite’s ideal home is calm and steady, with other dog(s), cat(s), no children, and recent rescue dog experience. She may be shy at first but opens herself to new humans that lead with kindness, compassion, and show her that she is safe! Because of her missing eye and her past, she can be a little guarded and approach should be slow and where she can see the hand coming towards her. We will never know what abuse she may have to overcome in her past, and clearly the eye injury may be baggage from what may have been afflicted on this little being - thus she may continue to be a bit reactive from time to time, as her protective measure, but she will return her people's trust with lots of love and cuddles when she is feeling safe. A home with good dog experience is a must! This tiny, epic, Warrior Survivor is a world-class charmer and will make a giant impact on her lucky adopter’s life. If you feel you are a good fit - we look forward to hearing from you! show less

Tony was found stray, the victim of a car hit and run. He was taken to the shelter and The REAL Bark came in to rescue him. He has been evaluated and treated for some minor medical from his accident and is in good physical condition. Tony is in a foster home where he was rehabilitated, and is enjoying life in a loving home. His best fit home would be with experienced dog owners who can help him build his confidence. Tony is a wonderful snugglebug at home and thoroughly bonds solidly with his humans. On walks, he may bark at other dogs and some times new people due to a little bit of insecurity. He needs his people to help continue working on raising his confidence and lessening his over-excitement when seeing other dogs. Tony is crate trained and continued use at home for some crate independent time would be helpful to continue encouraging some alone time, minimizing any separation anxiety tendencies when his people leave. He may be a bit shy at first with strangers, but warms quickly and welcomes new hands for pets. At only 15 lbs he fits nicely in a lap! He would love a calm environment, cats are okay but no children (or those over 15 years old), to be the only dog, to have a private yard or quiet street, and dog savvy people who can be his leader and keep him safe, with patience and a commitment to working with him to be a happy, confident dog. He is eager to please and with the right setup and consistency, he can be the best partner for a lucky person! show less
