About Looftah Luther

Looftah Luther doesn’t know you yet, but he already knows you’re his best friend! He’s a confident, happy and cuddly pal who loves to be at his human’s side — the perfect work-from-home assistant. Luther loves to snuggle and spoon, and is curious about all things in the kitchen. Looftah Luther was living in and out of a basement in Fort Greene. He was being fed by local residents (and he had his own special princess food bowl), but he was dealing with a very painful and untreated ear infection. Looftah was a bit confused when we first brought him inside, but was quickly overjoyed when he realized that he could eat lots of food all the time and allowed us to clean and medicate his ears. Itchy no longer, this sweet boy with a gentle soul would love a quiet home complete with lots of scritches. Looftah is intimidated by assertive male cats, so we think he’d prefer a home on his own or with a polite (and probably female) feline companion. He is good with children and doesn’t mind dogs. Looftah Luther has mild dental disease so he will need a dental cleaning sooner rather than later -- we’re happy to talk to you more about potential options.

Asterisk is a curious, social purring machine who makes himself at home immediately. He started purring the minute his carrier met the living room floor and has barely stopped since. He scorned the idea of a small covered safe space to hide in—this brave boy was happily (& purr-ily!) exploring every room in the house the same day he arrived. Asterisk is chatty and loves to be near his humans—he will run up to you if you’ve been away for too long! He will hang out and nap next to you when you’re cooking or working. Sometimes he tries to guess what room you’re going to and will run to get there before you. He is happy being picked up and will gladly purr against you for a few minutes, and then politely wriggle out of your arms when he’s done. Asterisk occasionally wants to play and has become very adept at “killing” a catnip-filled sock (he also sometimes uses it as a pillow—it’s very cute). Asterisk's clear communication skills really stand out on his excellent résumé—you know when he wants to play, when he wants pets (always!), and when he wants food. He is very easy to care for and we think he’d be great around kids and would be very happy with a playful feline friend. This cat needs to be adopted with a friend -- applications for them as a single cat will not be answered. show less

Boots is a hot mess with a giant heart. This older, very sweet tuxedo cat was apparently living on the street for the past ten years -- and it really shows! When this guy initially joined us, the wear and tear of his life outside was very apparent -- he was malnourished, sneezing, bad stomach problems and just really dirty! Now that his general health has somewhat improved and he has been brushed and bathed many times by his doting fosters, this gentleman is ready for his own home and family. Boots loves to be brushed and petted, and can be chatty when he wants food or attention, with an endearing meow that sounds like a whispered groan. He will rear on his hind legs to get head scratches, and after you feed him, he will do his best to rub his slobbery fangs on you in appreciation. Boots was shy at first, but has learned to trust those who feed and brush him.  Boots is still a work in progress -- he is in need of dental surgery and a mindful diet to keep his digestion under control. His eyesight isn’t great, but he does have some vision. This fixer upper is a gentle and friendly companion who is enjoying the upgrade to indoor living and we’d be more than happy to discuss his medical concerns and partner with an adopter to ensure that he becomes and stays his healthiest self. This cat is FIV+ and will live a normal healthy and long life when provided with quality care such as a balanced diet and yearly wellness exams (like any cat). As FIV+ is not transmittable between neutered/spayed cats under normal circumstances, we are happy for FIV+ cats to mingle with FIV- cats in their adoptive homes. show less

Cally and Tarlee are a pair of siblings from Staten Island enjoying their new life in Brooklyn.  Cally is a goofy lovebug and is super affectionate and will climb into your lap at every opportunity. Seriously, EVERY opportunity. The rest of her time is spent playing, looking for toys, or following you around, waiting for a lap to lay on. She absolutely craves human affection, which is super hilarious when you consider that sometimes her greeting is a hiss...a friendly hiss, who knew!? Tarlee is still considering his options, but loving all the toys and treats and slowly deciding that humans are not so bad. He’s also a huge fan of meat tubes and doesn’t mind if you buy his love with a Churu. Cally and Tarlee are the perfect pair because while Tarlee is timid, and slowly learning to trust, Cally jumps in to offer comfort, affection and assurance. The two have just the right dynamic of hyper and outgoing (Cally) and pensive and cautious (Tarlee). If you are able to offer a quiet place for them to get settled, and can be patient as Tarlee blossoms and grows, then these two are for you! For more pictures see their foster’s instagram @bobo_the_foster_dad These two cats are bonded and must be adopted together -- applications for just one of them will not be processed. show less

Charlotte and Millie are extremely bonded best friends who have lived together for years. They are head over heels in love with each other -- always cuddling and grooming each other. Charlotte (orange) immediately jumped on the couch at her foster home to demand pets, while Millie (grey) is a bit more timid and follows Charlotte’s lead. This means that as soon as you bond with Charlotte, Millie will become more comfortable with you! Most times, as soon as Charlotte begins getting pets and scratches, Millie gets jealous and runs over to join. It’s rarer for Millie to approach you on her own until she’s comfortable. These girls are a little older and are very relaxed, although occasionally get a small bout of zoomies in the morning. These lovely ladies are precious and love to cuddle with each other and humans and are perfect companions for working from home. These two cats are bonded and must be adopted together -- applications for just one of them will not be processed. These cats have Mouths on the Mend -- they were rescued with dental issues and are in need of surgery. In lieu of an adoption fee, we are asking for a larger donation and/or assistance crowdsourcing funds towards their necessary vet bills. We’d be happy to talk more about this -- please submit an adoption application if you’d like to connect. Interested in being a Tooth Fairy for our cats? Let us know! show less

Can’t get much cuter than these guys! Cupid and Adonis are bonded young brothers who will fill your home with great joy. Cupid is a tuxedo cat with face-markings that make him look like a badger. Adonis is mostly white with a grey tail and some grey on his ears and face. He is also smaller than his brother, which he makes up for in extra spunkiness. Cupid delights in lap-sitting and cuddling and Adonis has recently discovered that he quite enjoys a good lap-nap as well. These guys are champion leg climbers and you may find that they’ve managed to make their way all the way up to your shoulder on their own. Cupid also enjoys climbing up to your hip and then expecting to be held there in your hand like some new-fangled fashion accessory while you walk around. Adonis will wake you up in the morning by nipping your toes. Both enjoy playing with toy mice and shoelaces (often the ones still attached to your shoes) and racing around as fast as their little legs can take them before conking out wherever they happen to stop. Both are also great with a litter box and scratch only in appropriate places. These two cats are bonded and must be adopted together -- applications for just one of them will not be processed. Please note that they may not yet be spayed/neutered -- their adoption fee may be higher to cover their surgeries.   show less

The principal will see you now! Dr. Samuels (named after the principal in "Head of the Class") is basically the best cat ever. Seriously. He has a giant head (complete with jowels) and will sit next to his empty food bowl and stare into your soul in a way that almost opens the can of food by itself. This big guy is friendly and slow-moving. He's really into boxes and confused by beds. Dr. Samuels came to us with an eye condition, and after seeing a couple of vets, it seems as though it is just cosmetic! (He did recently scratch his eye which is why it is red and looks irritated and he has to wear a cone for a couple of weeks, but not forever). Dr. Samuels likes to be involved with everything. He has joined many zoom calls, helped himself to our snacks and is always underfoot asking for some pets. He likes to get what he wants (ham sitting on the counter, for example) and needs adopters to create boundaries and be firm when necessary. He can be a bit mouthy -- we are working with him on this behavior, but it will be important to be strict about using toys instead of hands when playing with him. We think that Dr. Samuels would do best with folks who have some experience with cats. He would be fine on his own or with other pets, he really doesn't care much about the other animals at the cafe as long as he gets enough attention. show less
