$100 of Archie's adoption fee is sponsored by the Mack family!$75 of Archie's adoption fee is sponsored by the Laita/Bradely Family!Personality: Archie is a very sweet and calm boy who loves ear scratches and belly rubs. He is very polite and a great companion. Archie pretty well house-trained but will need to be let out every 2-3 hours. He is great with new people and will warm up to them almost immediately.History: Archie is great with children as well as other animals. He has been living with a child, a teenager, two adults, and another small dog. He is very patient with kids especially younger ones. Although he isn't one to play, he is good with other dogs.Dog/ Cat Skills: Archie is pretty good around other dogs. When meeting new dogs he is very calm. While he has been living with another small dog he has mostly kept to himself. He has seen some garden cats and other small animals around our neighborhood and has barely reacted. He is mostly pretty calm around other animals.Leash Skills: He walks very well on a leash and almost never pulls. He enjoys going on shorter walks as he gets tired pretty easily.Medical: Archie has a significant heart murmur and cardiac enlargement. he has been to a veterinary cardiologist and diagnosed with degenerative mitral valve disease which is a common and age-related disease. His risk of developing congestive heart failure is low to moderate. We have placed him on a cardiac medication designed to improve heart function. The adopting family is strongly advised to have him rechecked every 6 months by a veterinary cardiologist. A monitoring and treatment plan is likely to significantly improve his quality of life and possibly his life-span.Archie has dental disease. This is very common in older dogs and Archie had a dental cleaning while in our care. Any unhealthy teeth were removed. Dental care is an on-going process that will need to be addressed for the remainder of his life. We also noted that Archie has a stiff gait in his rear legs. X-rays show that in the past, he had a fracture of his right hip that has since healed. At this time, he does not appear acutely painful in this leg and we are not recommending treatment at this time. The adopting family is encouraged to discuss this condition with their family veterinarian or a veterinary surgeon to determine the best course of treatment to keep him comfortable.Ready to meet Archie? Personality: Badger is a very sweet guy who will bond with his people very fast and be a loyal companion. He is an energetic boy and enjoys long walks on beach, hikes and runs. Badger has shown to enjoy a company of a well matched canine companion that can be his buddy so they can navigate life together. Great energy level, mostly quiet although he does occasionally bark at strange noises, does great and walks, and loves human attention! He LOVES chasing squirrels in the backyard. Overall an awesome guy! Badger is known to have some barrier frustrations and leash reactivity towards unfamiliar dogs that will need to be worked on using positive reinforcement techniques. Badger knows basic commands and is potty trained. Badger has a training scholarship funded by the Pedigree Foundation. My care had been sponsored by Martin Estrada!History: Badger came to us from another shelter and spent some time in a foster home with two small dogs. He was then adopted for few months where he lived in adult only household with another large male dog.Dog/Cat skills: Badger can be tentative at first when meeting new dogs and he does best with polite, playful canines. Once he knows the dog he will bounce in play, run around and wrestle. He would do best with a canine companion who respects his boundaries, is loose in meeting and likes to play chase. From his previous home we learned that Badger will chase a cat if they run. He would do best in home with no cats.Leash Skills: Badger pulls on leash and would benefit from wearing a 'front-clip' harness. Medical: Badger had a dental in our care. It showed he may have some poor enamel quality due to a congenital condition (he was born with this tendency) or due to exposure to a medication or a virus when he was very young. The poor enamel will make him more prone to dental disease. He had 2 incisors (front teeth) removed due to crown fractures."Ready to meet Badger? Animal's Name: BenjiAnimal ID Number: What should your foster's bio say? Hi My name is Benji and I am a handsome white 10 year young boy. I love to lounge around the house and follow my Foster mom and sister all over the house. My Foster Mom laughs when I walk around. She says it's because I don't walk, I prance like a horse. She also says I am a good boy because I rarely bark. Even when my foster dog brothers do. I rather relax and give loves. I love cuddles and laying on laps. What did you implement for house training? Do you think it's working? Benji was mostly an outside dog when I got him. He only had one accident when he first got to my home and was perfect after that. I was really impressed. We take him out every 3-4 hours and give him a little time to do his business. He likes to smell around and will go pee 1-2 times. Have you introduced them to a crate? If so, what kind of crate and what was their reaction? Benji rides in a crate in the car and sleeps on a dog bed at night. He has no issues going into the crate and will just walk right in.How many hours did you leave them home alone? What was their behavior like when left alone? 3 hours and he just relaxed in his bed most of the time. What is their behavior like with other animals? We have 3 dogs and he did fine with them. He likes to vibe (my daughter's term) and hang out with other dogs. My dogs are older too and are not huge players but will hop around when it's treat time and Benji joins right in.What is their behavior like with new people and/or children? : Benji loves meeting new adults and kids. His tail wags and he will go up for lots of pets.Is there anything else that you would like the new adopter to know about this dog, such as any special tricks or adorable traits? Benji is a sweet dog and has adjusted to our home quickly. He is very relaxed and can be a great addition to any family but would also be great for an older couple looking for a TV companion. We have hardwood floors so sometimes he slides since he prances but has gotten better. Due to his age and wonderful house training he should only be an inside dog. Personality: Caroline is a very sweet girl who enjoys a laid back life. She loves to go on walks followed by lots of cuddles and belly rubs. Caroline enjoys meeting new people especially if it comes with snacks and lots of pets. She is looking for a home to call her own where she can be loved and treated like a princess that she is. History: Caroline came to us from Madera shelter back in March. She has been in couple foster homes where she has done great with all the residents and is a very sweet and low key girl. Caroline was adopted once by a first time dog owners and returned two days later. She is known to take couple days to get comfortable in new environments so giving Caroline her own space where she can decompress is recommended and once she has warmed up she will be your little shadow and feet warmer.Dog Skills: Caroline can be selective about her canine friends. She prefers to peacefully co-exist with calm, confident male dogs. She hasn't shown any interest in playing with dogs, she prefers to just hang out. Caroline can be little bossy with young and/or timid dogs and she has shown strong focus towards small dogs. It is recommended that she goes home as an only dog or with a well matched confident, calm adult male dog.Cat Skills: Caroline has shown strong focus and willingness to chase cats. She is recommended to a home with no felines.Leash Skills: Caroline pulls on leash when excited. She is recommended to wear front-clip harness and would benefit from training on loose leash walking.Medical: Periodontal disease. This patient has been diagnosed with periodontal disease (also known as gum disease or dental disease). This disease is extremely common in dogs and cats, especially as they age. Periodontal disease occurs when bacterial plaque causes inflammation of the gums and eventual destruction of the bone in which the teeth are anchored. This patient had a dental cleaning recently at HSSV. Dental care is an on-going process that will need to be addressed for the life of this patient. My care has been sponsored by Troop 61142!My adoption fee was sponsored by my Foster Family! What should your foster's bio say? I am a fun loving, inquisitive puppy. I'm ready to explore my surroundings, and I also enjoy watching what is going on around me. My favorite thing to do after trying to play with my foster mom's backyard chickens is snuggle up in her lap and give some kisses. I also enjoy trying to get my foster mom's senior small dog to play with me. I've been in foster since I was 2 weeks old, so I am very used to being around the hustle and bustle of a busy household. What did you implement for house training? Do you think it's working? Daisy is used to going outside as soon as she wakes up in the morning and from her naps. She runs to the grass to do her business. We watch her closely to make sure she doesn't have an accident in the house. She has recently started to run to the door (and out if it's open) when she needs to go! Daisy still has to potty overnight and uses the pee pad in her pen.Have you introduced them to a crate? If so, what kind of crate and what was their reaction? Daisy and her sister, Rosie, have been sleeping on a dog bed (or on the floor) in a pen. Daisy really enjoys a fluffy dog bed! They have been transported in a crate and are comfortable in it.How many hours did you leave them home alone? What was their behavior like when left alone? The pups have been left alone for up to 2 hours during the day. They do fine in their pen. They go to bed between 10 and 11 every night, once they have gone out to potty and run around the yard. We put them in their pen, turn off the light, and they settle down and go to sleep. What is their behavior like with other animals? Daisy desperately wants our 13 year old dog to play, unfortunately, he is not willing, but will let her be nearby. She plays nicely with her sister, with lots of puppy rough housing going on.What is their behavior like with new people and/or children? : Daisy loves it when our 5 year old granddaughter comes over. She can't wait to climb into her lap to get some belly rubs and give her kisses. She also eagerly greets anyone she sees.Is there anything else that you would like the new adopter to know about this dog, such as any special tricks or adorable traits? Daisy is a very sweet puppy, and she loves to snuggle when she's ready. She will let you know by climbing into your lap or approaching your chair. Daisy is learning to sit before the pen door gets opened. She will be a great addition to any household! Primary Color: White Weight: 8.4 Age: 0yrs 0mths 8wks show less
