9 years young Donatella has not met a person she did not want to impress and love on. At a 7 mere pounds, she is a sweet teeny tiny girl who would love nothing more than hanging with her best human, sitting on their lap, riding in a sling with them all day long. Her favorite pastimes include loving on her humans and being petted and cuddled and getting her special treats. When she is not on her human's lap, she is very active, curious and always on the go - she thinks she is a 2 year old puppy!!! She has some allergies that may be seasonal, and are managed with some basic anti-inflammatory medications that also help with her current trachea which sometimes gets irritated with too much activity. Because of her spunky personality, she would be great in a home with leaders who can help her manage her activity while allowing her free exploration, and give her all the love that she will happily return. Donatella was surrendered to the shelter with another dog but they were not a bonded pair. Her ideal home would be as the only dog or with another dog under 15 lbs. She would also be okay with older, calm children (10+ years). She is house trained and does well with hard surface flooding, carpets are confusing for her. Donatella is crate trained. show less

SPECIAL NEEDS STUNNER - This beautiful chocolate lab named Echo is 4 years old, and looking for a loving home. Echo was found, abandoned, in a homeless encampment here in LA - in terrible shape. No one knew how a purebred lab got there, but after he was legally available we pulled him from the shelter, and began to get him on the road to wellness. Echo is a good and loyal boy - and has thrived in foster care for the last few months. He is a wonderful home companion who bonds solidly with his people. His foster notes that Echo loves belly rubs, sitting in the sun, and being his person's sidekick. He equally enjoys controlled walks, and can be selective on the leash in reaction to some dogs. Foster handles it fine, but we are able to offer training to his right-fit adoptive home. Some folks do not go on walks, and Echo is fine being a couch potato and is fully house trained. Echo has been treated for an infection called Brucellosis, the whole time he has been in foster. The condition initially caused him pain in the spinal area - most of which has repaired itself through medication and rest. Echo has been retested positive (meaning his meds must continue) and will have another evaluation at the end of March. The vets are optimistic that through remaining on his antibiotics, Echo can reach a negative status. For now, he must remain on his antibiotic treatment and we will continue to carry the cost of his meds for his adoptive home. Echo is a joy to have around and is a happy boy says his foster. We are searching for that special person who can provide Echo with the safe, loving home he deserves. His best fit is few people (three in foster home now), no children, or other pets. Adopter would need to keep the same protocol that his foster and the rest of us have all learned this last year in the age of Covid: good hand Hygiene is key. Brucellosis can transmit to others through bodily fluids but that became greatly reduced once we neutered him, and Echo's fosters follow strict hand washing and cleanliness with no issues. This poor boy had been through some form of hell before we received him. His soulful eyes let us know how happy he is to be safe and treated well. In return he is a most loyal companion, who would like to find his retirement home, be on sunshine patrol, and perfect the art of napping. He is crate trained. Thanks for having a look at Echo. Jude is looking for a very special home. He is a cute 6 year old poodle whose looks can fool you - he has some old baggage that in time should become old unneeded baggage as he continues to learn his confidence and the wonderful world with humans. We are looking for a home with experienced dog owners who understand and can manage resource guarding behavior in dogs. Jude does well with other dogs and understands the dog pack, but needs to understand his humans can also be their pack leader and must respect their authority and space. He can be the only dog in the home, or with another dog who is well tempered and confident but not overly dominating or alpha, and people who know how to set solid and consistent ground rules in the home. If in a home with more than one caretaker everyone must equally share responsibilities and activities to minimize resource guarding tendencies toward any one individual as well as maintain the consistent rules of the house as it relates to his access and behavior, as he has been known to guard one person over another with unpleasant consequences. Otherwise he's a sweet boy who loves and enjoys cuddles and walks. 9 years youngLeonardo was surrendered to a city shelter by his owner with another dog but they were not a bonded paid. He is a well-adjusted boy who enjoys new people and wants to impress and love everyone. He is a sweet boy who wants to please his humans and particularly loves laps. One of his favorite pastimes is to roll around and rub his head into furniture or blankets - an adorable, little clown. He's eager to explore, great on walks (can do long walks and hikes). He seems to enjoy other nice dogs and is currently fostered with a nice male dog who is larger than him. Leonardo is ready to find his forever home, which can be a house, townhouse or apartment. He can be the only dog or be paired with another nice tempered dog whose lead he can follow. We have not yet experienced his interaction with cats and kids. He can be cat tested and suspect he would be fine with older, calm children. He is a fairly even-tempered, happy boy who enjoys life and love. Leonardo is crate trained. show less

Healey Sprite was rescued from a horrific situation. Found abandoned and dying in a shopping cart. She has made HUGE strides and has rallied back both physically and emotionally. Sprite is a small, adorable 2 year old Chihuahua mix that is living life in foster with 3 other dogs and 2 cats. Due to her injury, underwent surgery to remove her eye, which has improved her overall health and happiness. Sprite’s ideal home is calm and steady, with other dog(s), cat(s), no children, and recent rescue dog experience. She may be shy at first but opens herself to new humans that lead with kindness, compassion, and show her that she is safe! Because of her missing eye and her past, she can be a little guarded and approach should be slow and where she can see the hand coming towards her. We will never know what abuse she may have to overcome in her past, and clearly the eye injury may be baggage from what may have been afflicted on this little being - thus she may continue to be a bit reactive from time to time, as her protective measure, but she will return her people's trust with lots of love and cuddles when she is feeling safe. A home with good dog experience is a must! This tiny, epic, Warrior Survivor is a world-class charmer and will make a giant impact on her lucky adopter’s life. Tony was found stray, the victim of a car hit and run. He was taken to the shelter and The REAL Bark came in to rescue him. He has been evaluated and treated for some minor medical from his accident as well as an old inner ear infection that was not tended to. Tony is in a foster home and is enjoying life in a loving home. From his unknown past, and the healing of his injury, Tony has learned some nervous behaviors that with consistent structure and leadership can easily be corrected. At present, we are working with Tony on his nervous barks towards people and dogs on walks. His actions are not aggressive but fear-based, so he needs to continue working on building his confidence as well as having a good leader that gives him the comfort that he can follow them and be safe. At home, he is a wonderful snuggle bug, but needs a crate to encourage frequent alone time to prevent separation anxiety when his people leave, a potential extension of his learned nervousness. He may be a bit shy at first with strangers, but warms quickly and welcomes new hands for pets. At only 15 lbs he fits nicely in a lap! His best fit home is one that has a calm environment, no children (or over 15 years old), only dog, and people who are dog savvy and experienced. He is eager to please and with the right setup and consistent ground rules, he can be the best partner for a lucky person! Tony is crate trained. show less

Vinny the King-boy is a 40 lb, approximately 7 yr, majestic, WONDERFUL dog and companion. He has been in foster for a month, and loves hanging with his human buddy. He is very accommodating to his person's energy level at the moment - if you are needing quiet, nappy time, he's right there next to you to cuddle, and if you are ready for a long walk he is too! Belly and neck rubs and a good groom brushing are his favorite things to do with his people as well as going on walks – long or short! Vinny is a survivor of a terrible hit and run accident - he had multiple open wounds and his face had tire tracks on it. Through his entire recovery and various treatments, he was a super star - kind, calm and always accommodating with no complaints. He's great on leash, and has no issues with other dogs. His best fit home would be a house/townhouse with a private yard or private secured outdoor area. An apartment with a secured private space for his potty breaks can be considered. He would be fine with mild-mannered children (they can not be too loud and rowdy or make a lot of sudden noises and movements). He can be the only dog or paired with another with the right temperament - but so far does not necessarily display a wish to play or interact with other dogs. Vinny will be a fantastic, loyal dog for a single person, a couple or the right family. Someone will be very, very lucky to welcome darling Vinny to their home. He is crate trained. show less
