About Ginger

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Loves Kids! Ginger is 43 pounds and approximately 8 years old. We believe she is a Vizsla mix, but mostly she is just a good-natured pup. When Ginger first arrived at SVPP, it was clear that she had not received proper care for a long time. Despite losing much of her hearing to benign masses in her ears, after two sets of surgeries, Ginger is a new girl!    This lovely little dog LOVES all people, big and small. Her foster dad calls her his shadow, as her favorite pastime is following him around the house and yard all day, pausing whenever she can for a good scritch on her backside. She is also up for long walks and romps with the tennis ball. Though, perhaps her very favorite activity is going for a ride in the car!   Ginger is very polite on leash and gets on well with other dogs outside of her home, especially larger dogs. Because of her difficult past, Ginger can be overly interested in food, and has a difficult time if other dogs are eating near her, so we do not think she is well suited to live with other dogs.   Ginger does well in a home with polite cats! She was interested at first, but quickly learned to give the cats their space.   Ginger's biggest challenge is loneliness. She does not like to be left alone, so will do best in a family where her people are home most of the time or can take her with them on most outings. Work with a high quality, fear-free trainer is recommended to help Ginger with this fear. Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.   Adoption fees for dogs: http://www.svpetproject.org/info/adoption Stay up-to-date on what our dogs are up to by following us on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/svpetproject Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Jessie is a 10 year old, 45 pound female pitbull mix. Jessie arrived at the San Jose Animal Care Center with ear infections, skin infections, and more than a dozen masses on her body. Thanks to the wonderful vets at the shelter, she got her infections treated, was spayed and had a dozen biopsies done and all of the margins were clear!   Jessie is the sweetest girl! She loves going on neighborhood strolls and walks great on leash, taking time to smell the flowers and say a gentle and friendly hello to any dog she meets, she likes to share snacks (peanut butter and apples anyone?), and rides great in the car. She is an amazing companion and loves to be with her people. She tolerates bath time just fine and enjoys her shampoo massage. She will “paw” for more pets and truly believes she is a 45 lb lap dog! She likes to be covered with a blanket for ultimate coziness during nap time. At night she sleeps very soundly in her crate and serenades with her pibble snores.   Jessie is housetrained and will benefit from being kept on a schedule or have regular access to the outdoors. As an older dog, she can not wait all day to do her business.   Jessie currently lives with a cat, but this is not a recommended forever situation. She does have prey drive and stays tethered whenever the cat is in the same area. However, with slow, positive introduction and management, she would likely do well in a home with another dog.   Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.   Adoption fees for dogs: http://www.svpetproject.org/info/adoption Stay up-to-date on what our dogs are up to by following us on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/svpetproject Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. show less

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Persephone is a beautiful tortie with an outgoing personality, and is very affectionate. She is super playful — she destroyed her feather toy within the first couple of hours with her energetic pouncing! Persephone isn't one for sitting on laps because she has more important cat business and exploring to do, but she will often lie next to her fosters — she loves being near her humans, especially after a good play session. Whenever her fosters walk into the room,  Persephone bombards them with excited meows and starts rubbing up against them. You’d think that her noggin would hurt from all that headbutting, but no... she will headbutt and prance forever (or at least until a toy starts moving).  Persephone has a healthy appetite. She has learned where she’s allowed to scratch, and uses the litterbox without issue. She’s very excited to meet her future parents! Prior to adoption, all cats/kittens are spayed/neutered, tested for FIV/FELV, vaccinated and microchipped.  Indoor homes only. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sweet as Apple Pie!Rosie is a 12 pound, 15 year old Chihuahua mix. Rosie aka, Rosie-Posie, Grandma Rose, Rosie-Girl, Rosita is the definition of cute companion pup! She is good natured, super healthy, gentle, intelligent, loving and affectionate. And, as her photos show, she is exceptionally photogenic! She loves kids and being around groups of people, especially when everyone is petting her. While she LOVES her people, Rosie is independent enough to leave alone when needed. She is a great apartment pup! Rosie is pad trained, but will also let you know when it is time to go out. Rosie enjoys relaxing in the sun, snuggling under her blanket, taking short walks on leash and in stroller, going on driving adventures (great co-pilot), exploring nature, parks. While she is beyond her more active years, Rosie still likes adventures and will still wag her tail, tap her paws, and howl with excitement! Rosie requires little grooming and has learned to stay in the tub when she's getting bathed. She needs to be dried with a hairdryer and prefers low-heat settings. It's also important to clean all areas of her body to prevent skin infections. Because her vision is not what it used to be, Rosie will benefit from a predictable space, especially at night. She sleeps well in her crate with an ex-pen and pads to help her know where she is when it gets dark and shadowy. Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.   Adoption fees for dogs: http://www.svpetproject.org/info/adoption Stay up-to-date on what our dogs are up to by following us on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/svpetproject Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. show less

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Cutest snorer! Snickers is a female 5 year old, 10 pound Chihuahua/Min-Pin mix. Tiny, chocolate and caramel Snickers was found as a stray in Newark. This sweet little girl is shy and very charming with her expressive eyes, curly tail and the cutest underbite! Snickers loves to be with her people, and is happiest burrowed under blankets and snoring happily. She wants to be your one and only, so is not recommended to live with any other pets.   Snickers is a sweetheart who loves to snuggle with her people. She loves pets and will nudge your hand with her head or climb into your lap to ask you to pet her. She loves napping in cozy blankets and has a cute snore. She is easy to handle and obedient. She even takes her medicine with minimal protest!   Snickers does have some specific medical needs. She has a heart condition that requires a daily medication. Snickers takes her pill easily and her condition is currently stable and well managed. Snickers also recently had several masses removed and thankfully she is clear of cancer, with excellent long-term prognosis. Her dental resulted in several tooth extractions, so her mouth feels amazing now! Prior to adoption, all dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm, vaccinated (including rabies, if age appropriate) and microchipped.   Adoption fees for dogs: http://www.svpetproject.org/info/adoption Stay up-to-date on what our dogs are up to by following us on Facebook!  https://www.facebook.com/svpetproject Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. show less
