We have found a foster for Georgie, but he still needs an EXPERIENCED adopter, who will provide him with a forever home!UPDATE 4/17/21: Georgie will need an EXPERIENCED foster or adopter! Georgie was adopted on 4/9/21 and returned on 4/12/21. His new family had called us on 4/10/21 to return him, because the introduction with their senior mom at home didn't go well and Georgie was barking at her. Georgie was transferred the day he came back to us to a new foster home, who is a single working female who fosters dogs and cats for ARWOB. She wasn't sure what she would find with Georgie and all she can say is 'She LOVES Georgie!” Here is what she has to say about him:1) Georgie is a great, gentle pup! He may seem under-socialize, but he really is not. He has no fear jumping into the car, walking through the house door, or being approached to put the leash off/on. He loves to be petted!2) He LOVES dog friends, both submissive and alpha. He has a submissive personality himself.3) He does well with cats, but can be a little ‘rough' sometimes. He is easily corrected when he does this. He just gets super excited when he sees cats. If kitties want to play with him, he is up for it, but he is only around cats when supervised. 4) He does great in his crate at night and several times throughout the day. He is not a barker or a vocal dog at all. Although if he doesn’t get daily exercise (either playing in yard with another dog or going on a walk/hike/run) and is kept in his kennel too long, he will whine. But if he gets his daily exercise, he will be patient and wait several hours in his crate napping.5) He was moved from his previous foster home, who had 3 young boys who are great with dogs. Georgie loved the boys, but barked at them a couple of times (depending on how they moved towards him and accidentally scared him). So as a precaution, we moved him to a different foster home. His current foster mom does not see him as a biter, just a nervous guy who can bark whenever he gets scared.6) He would greatly benefit from a one-on-one foster, who can expose him to the world of walks, different interactions with people, etc. He is pretty good on a leash compared to others, and is not super strong with his pulling, but he could use normal dog training. He is a goofball and is very sweet. He can be mellow yet also active, depending on what the situation is. He LOVES dog toys and sharing them with others. UPDATE 4-12-21: Georgie is a handsome full-grown boy at 38 pounds, who had a very hard life while living on the roof of a home in Mexico before he was rescued. He is under socialized and is definitely more oriented toward dogs than people. His foster family is a couple in their 40s with a home/yard and three young boys (age 4-8 years old). He is being fostered with his doggy friend Tara. It took both of these pups about 1-2 days to decompress, so the family just gave them space. Now it’s been a week and both dogs love the family and are loving/loyal toward them. However, Georgie is more aloof toward people and prefers to spend time with his doggy friend Tara. He has some human trust issues and will need an adopter who is willing to put in some work with dog training, so he can learn the basics. He will need more socialization and an adopter who will take him on walks, car rides, and expose him to new people/situations. He has made great progress in a week, so we can only imagine how his will blossom in a stable home as months go by. We also think a home with no other dogs will actually help him focus more on human interaction, but he would appreciate enjoying a play date with other dogs when he is ready (or perhaps a second dog in the future as company). He will definitely be a “protective” dog, warning you of new people in the home. Therefore we need to make sure his adopter is able to work with him and is capable of making sure his is comfortable around new people either in the home or when on walks (when there is potential for people who may want to interact/pet him). UPDATE 4-2-21: Here is what Georgie's foster family has to say:'Georgie is a sweet dog looking for a patient and loving forever home. Georgie was scared when he first arrived in our home keeping his distance initially. As he became more comfortable and saw that he can trust us, he began to let his guard down. He is making amazing progress as he learns that we care for him and love him. He is a submissive dog. He has amazing agility and is intelligent, even though he is slow to warm up, he is not an anxious dog. He is crate and house trained. He is not a barky dog. He has done well with our 3 children ages 3, 5, and 7, as well as our cat. It will be very important that his forever family continue to socialize him with dogs and people, as well as continue dog training.'If you are interested in adopting this handsome man, please fill out an online adoption application at www.arwob.org Don't wait!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application.
