Personality: Angelo is big, lovable guy with a big personality! He's 80lbs of fun and loves to run and play. He's working on his canine manners and would love a big dog experienced home where he can continue to learn and become the best dog he can be. Angelo is energetic and enjoys playing with other social dogs, exploring in the big outdoors, and jogging with his people to keep in shape. One could really say that Angelo has it all.....the striking good looks, lovable personality, and the brains to go with it. A training scholarship has been funded by The Pedigree Foundation HistoryHistory: Angelo came to us from another shelter.Dog/Cat skills: Angelo has been in playgroup and has met many different dogs. He has displayed forward greetings and showed interest in running around in play. He can become too rowdy for some dogs, and does best with social, calm dogs. Angelo has shown high prey drive with cats, and can be hyper focused and too rowdy for small dogs.Leash Skills: Angelo is a large and strong dog who walks well with appropriate walking equipment, like a martingale collar and no pull, front clip harness. Medical: This dog has scarring of his pinnae (ear flaps)that appear consistent with a previous episode of cutaneous vasculitis. Vasculitis is an immune-mediated inflammation of the blood vessel wall that causes decreased blood flow to small patches of skin, resulting in ulceration, crusting, or hair loss at these sites. $100 of Archie's adoption fee is sponsored by the Mack family!Personality: Archie is a very sweet and calm boy who loves ear scratches and belly rubs. He is very polite and a great companion. Archie pretty well house-trained but will need to be let out every 2-3 hours. He is great with new people and will warm up to them almost immediately.History: Archie is great with children as well as other animals. He has been living with a child, a teenager, two adults, and another small dog. He is very patient with kids especially younger ones. Although he isn't one to play, he is good with other dogs.Dog/ Cat Skills: Archie is pretty good around other dogs. When meeting new dogs he is very calm. While he has been living with another small dog he has mostly kept to himself. He has seen some garden cats and other small animals around our neighborhood and has barely reacted. He is mostly pretty calm around other animals.Leash Skills: He walks very well on a leash and almost never pulls. He enjoys going on shorter walks as he gets tired pretty easily.Medical: Archie has a significant heart murmur and cardiac enlargement. he has been to a veterinary cardiologist and diagnosed with degenerative mitral valve disease which is a common and age-related disease. His risk of developing congestive heart failure is low to moderate. We have placed him on a cardiac medication designed to improve heart function. The adopting family is strongly advised to have him rechecked every 6 months by a veterinary cardiologist. A monitoring and treatment plan is likely to significantly improve his quality of life and possibly his life-span.Archie has dental disease. This is very common in older dogs and Archie had a dental cleaning while in our care. Any unhealthy teeth were removed. Dental care is an on-going process that will need to be addressed for the remainder of his life. We also noted that Archie has a stiff gait in his rear legs. X-rays show that in the past, he had a fracture of his right hip that has since healed. At this time, he does not appear acutely painful in this leg and we are not recommending treatment at this time. The adopting family is encouraged to discuss this condition with their family veterinarian or a veterinary surgeon to determine the best course of treatment to keep him comfortable.Ready to meet Archie? Personality: Badger is a very sweet guy who will bond with his people very fast and be your loyal companion. He is an energetic boy and enjoys long walks on beach, hikes and runs. Badger has shown to enjoy a company of a well matched canine companion that can be his buddy so they can navigate life together. Badger is known to have some barrier frustrations and leash reactivity towards unfamiliar dogs that will need to be worked on using positive reinforcement techniques. Badger knows basic commands and is potty trained. Badger has a training scholarship funded by the Pedigree Foundation.History: Badger came to us from another shelter and spent some time in a foster home with two small dogs. He was then adopted for few months where he lived in adult only household with another large male dog.Dog/Cat skills: Badger can be tentative at first when meeting new dogs and he does best with polite, playful canines. Once he knows the dog he will bounce in play, run around and wrestle. He would do best with a canine companion who respects his boundaries, is loose in meeting and likes to play chase.Leash Skills: Badger pulls on leash and would benefit from wearing a 'front-clip' harness. Medical: Badger had a dental in our care. It showed he may have some poor enamel quality due to a congenital condition (he was born with this tendency) or due to exposure to a medication or a virus when he was very young. The poor enamel will make him more prone to dental disease. He had 2 incisors (front teeth) removed due to crown fractures. Personality: Camille is a playful, energetic, sweet dog but does need guidance and encouragement when meeting new people. While often she can be jumpy and playful, she can also be timid at first with unfamiliar faces and places. Camille is recommended to go to a low-key, experienced, adult home environment that can give her time to adjust and build up her confidence. Once she is comfortable with people, she is wiggly, playful, and very affectionate. Camille is still learning manners and can become mouthy in play with people. She is also very high energy and needs lots of outlets. Camille enjoys long runs and play dates with other dogs to help burn her energy. In fact, Camille would love a play chew buddy for life! Camille has a training scholarship sponsored by the Pedigree Foundation. History: Camille has shown to do best in low-traffic neighborhoods and calm, adult households where she can settle into new environments slowly. Camille is a strong chewer and needs lots of toy and play outlets for this behavior.Dog Skills: Participates in play group at HSSV regularly. Camille enjoys playing chase and wrestle with other polite, social dogs. She can be initially overwhelmed with more forward or rowdy play, but she has warmed up quickly and loves to play fast and rough with any dog she can. She has been through a lot recently (she was hit by a car that resulted in removing one of her eyes and losing most of the eyesight in the other). But she isn't letting that get her down. Canela happily goes on walks with a handler and other dogs. She enjoys sniffing around and learning how to live her best life even without vision. Each new environment that Canela enters she needs a little time to map out and quickly she is comfortable to roam around without issues.History: Canela came to us from another shelter after she was hit by a car. Dog/Cat skills: Canela has a history of having lived with other dogs. Now that she is learning to navigate her new world by just sounds and smells she can be little tentative around forward dogs at fisrt but she warms up quick and will peacefully co-exist in the same space with other calm and polite dogs. Once settled, she will happily play and follow them around... as best she can. She may benefit from a confident canine role model in the home. We don't have a history on Canela around cats.Leash skills: Canela walks nicely on leash and enjoys slow walks where she can sniff her surroundings. Medical: Blindness. Canela presented with trauma to her head, especially on the left side, and her left eye had to be removed. She also has significant vision impairment and appears to be blind in her right eye. It is unknown if she was born this way or acquired as part of her head trauma. Blind dogs can do very well in a stable environment and with a committed owner. Canela currently is being treated for an ear infection in her RIGHT ear caused by a yeast organism called malassezia. We have applied a medication into each ear to treat this infection. The medication will remain in the ears for 14 days and then should be followed by a recheck with your veterinarian. Personality: Caroline is a squatty, pittie-patamus. She is a social, affectionate, snuggly girl who loves her people. She hasn't missed many meals and would really do anything for a tasty treat. She has a big smile and enjoys sharing her spunky personality with all her human friends. She loves to go on leisurely strolls and to smell the roses along the way. History: Caroline came to us from another shelter.Dog/Cat skills: Caroline has been in smaller, selective playgroups. She takes her time to warm up to new dogs and doesn't like forward or immediately playful dogs. She has shown to like going on walks with calm, confident male dogs who allow her time to warm up. My name is Greta and I am a sweet and observant dog. My ideal human understands that naps are important and belly rubs are the best. I'll ask for attention with a chin rest or rolling over - I don't resort to barking, pawing, or mouthing at people, that's just rude! My smile, ears and tail are very expressive, so you can always tell how I feel. Oh, and my double dew claws click like heels when I walk, so you can hear me coming. I raised 10 babies in Feb+March, so April is my month to spring back into my hobbies: sunbathing on the lawn, enjoying a frozen Kong, short walks (I'm great on leash), car rides, and lounging on the couch. I'm recovering from my spay surgery, and once I'm all healed then a squeaky toy or bouncy ball might entice me to jump and sprint.I welcome all people with a tail wag and a smile. I am alert of my surroundings and have keen eyes and ears for added security. If a squirrel is around, I'll monitor the situation. If a dog is outside and wants to talk, then I will rumble a woof or respond in kind. I am house trained, but won't bark or whine at you to let me out at night, so let's establish the potty schedule early!
