About Lisa

Personality: Lisa is playful and loves her toys. She is happy to gather all of them up and rip them up to her heart's content. Lisa is a great learner, too! She knows sit, stay and come along, and will follow these even during distracting walks. She will also come when called. Sometimes she's a little stubborn, too, (i.e. if you want her to move from her favorite place on the couch, treats work best!) History: She is best friends with her foster family's 10 yr old daughter.Dog/ Cat Skills: She has not been around dogs or cats in her foster home but was in large dog playgroups in her previous shelter and enjoyed lots of rowdy play. Leash Skills: Lisa pulls on the leash, and the use of a front clipping harness has helped. To support Lisa's progress, her new family will also receive a free consultation with a trainer.Medical: Lisa has been diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament in her right knee. The most common surgical repair for this condition is called a TPLO. Following surgery, the family should expect 6-8 weeks of exercise restriction and rehabilitation. Lisa is a wonderful dog and will make an excellent addition to the right family willing to take on her medical needs. She has done well thus far with exercise restriction in foster care. Personality: Comet is a fun, energetic, playful & goofy boy. He is very social and is wiggly when meeting new people. He likes the outdoors and enjoys going on long walks and runs. He would benefit from daily physical and mental exercise. He would do best in an adult household and low-key environment that understands and is comfortable with herding breed behavior. He also loves going to the beach and playing in the sand. As energetic as he is, Comet also loves to curl up and relax with you. He is very intelligent and easy to train. He picks up commands quickly and is already good with the basics. Comet did well in his foster home with a routine potty schedule. He also did well getting left alone when provided exercises and had his bed and chew toys to keep him occupied. My care has been sponsored by Pallavi Akella! A training scholarship has been funded by The Pedigree FoundationHistory: Comet came to us from the central valley. Dog Skills/Cat Skills: Comet is a very excitable dog, that he can be too forward for more reserved and shy dogs who prefer space and time to warm up. Comet tends to be vocal and bossy in play with dogs and will pick on less confident dogs. Comet does enjoy chase and physical contact play but has shown to escalate corrections from other dogs. He may do best as an only dog but has also shown to tolerate and play with females that are calm, social, polite, and playful, who can tolerate his very vocal, pushy play style. At this time comet has shown to only do well meeting other dogs on a loose leash walk, before being able to play. Comet has shown hyper-focus on cats, and adopters should be aware of breed tendencies.Leash Skills: Comet pulls while walking on a leash and would benefit from the use of a front clipping harness. He can be reactive when he sees dogs, and does best with low-traffic walking routes and treat redirection.Ready to meet Comet? Personality: Cooper is an active, social, high energy teen looking for an experienced adult home. He is a smart dog willing to work for food and toys. Cooper is very energetic and would make an excellent running or hiking partner. With his energy, he would benefit from plenty of physical and mental exercise along with continued basic training as he likes to keep busy. Cooper has a boisterous personality and can be jumpy and excited when meeting new people so it's good to reward him for calm behavior. He is recommended to go to a family that has experience with working breed traits where he can be given lots of daily outlets and mental enrichment. History: Cooper came to HSSV as a stray. Dog/Cat Skills: Cooper enjoys engaging dogs in play, especially chase, but can be very forward and bossy. He has shown to do better with female dogs who are tolerant of his vocal, rowdy play style. Cooper was recently neutered and has shown willingness to target or bully male dogs. He participates in playgroup daily and enjoys chase and wrestle play to help burn his energy. Cooper has shown hyper focus on cats and willingness to chase them. Adopters should be educated on breed tendencies. Leash Skills: Cooper pulls while walking on a leash. He would benefit from the use of a front clipping harness. Cooper can become easily excited and vocal on leash when he sees dogs. We work on this by calmly redirecting and choosing lower traffic walking routes. Ready to meet Cooper? Personality: Darryl is a fun kitty that loves to be showered with attention! He is always waiting by the door hoping someone will stop by to visit him. He enjoys being next to his human, even when just relaxing on the couch. He also enjoys being pet, but he can become uncomfortable with heavy petting if not given any breaks in between. If you watch his body language closely, you'll be able to tell when he's had enough petting.History: Darryl came to us from another shelter.Cat/Dog Skills: Darryl has his own room at this time but is able to see cats through his window and currently has no reaction to them. There is no history of Darryl interacting with dogs.Medical: Darryl came to HSSV with a face wound, but he was successfully treated and just needs more time for all his fur to grow back. Darryl tested positive for the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) on a routine screening test. Cats with FIV can live long and happy lives, but with their immune system affected by the virus they can be more susceptible to illness or infection. Darryl has been diagnosed with periodontal disease (also known as gum disease or dental disease)and has had a dental cleaning recently at HSSV. His teeth were cleaned and polished and evaluated for fractures. Teeth that were determined to be unhealthy were removed. My care has been sponsored by Emily Lindsay!Ready to meet Darryl? Personality: Diggy Smalls is all about that party life! He loves to be the center of attention from both, humans and other dogs. Diggy enjoys lots of playtime with toys and running around with his canine friends. He is a high energy large boy with personality matching his size. Diggy does best with experienced handlers who know how to calm him and redirect him to polite behaviors. With his energy, Diggy Smalls would benefit from plenty of physical and mental exercise and a family who is comfortable managing a high energy, large dog. DIGGY SMALLS IS A STAFF AND VOLUNTEER FAVORITE! A training scholarship has been funded by The Pedigree Foundation.History: Diggy Smalls came to us from another shelter.Dog/Cat skills: Diggy Smalls is very playful and loves to run around with other high energy dogs. He can be more selective about male dogs but he loves all the ladies and will initiate play and chase with everyone he comes across. We have no history on how Diggy is around cats.Leash Skills: Diggy Smalls is a large and strong dog who will need to walk with appropriate equipment to control him. It also helps when he gets proper outlets for his energy.Medical: This dog had a condition called "entropion" in both eyes, which means that his eyelid margins rolled inward, causing corneal irritation. The entropion has been surgically repaired in both eyes. He is due for a suture removal, under sedation, sometime around 2/21-2/23/20. If adopted prior to suture removal, this can be performed at HSSV as a scheduled sedation procedure (at no cost to the adopting family). After the sutures are removed, no further treatment for this condition is anticipated."Ready to meet Diggy?
