About Babs

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application.  If you would like to try a Foster to Adopt trial, please fill out an Adoption Application.  If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application.   Meet Babs!UPDATE 2-15-21:  We are happy to offer a 1-2 week foster-to-adopt trail for someone who meets Babs at the cat adoption center and feels that they didn’t quite make a connection with her.  Since some cats are stressed and do not show well at the CAC, a foster-to-adopt trial would give an adopter a chance to see how Babs reacts once she is in a more calm setting at home.  We do think she would be perfectly happy as the ONLY cat in the home.  Since she arrived at the CAC, our volunteers have been making a habit of taking Babs out of her kennel and letting her have the room by herself for awhile so that she can play and enjoy the human socialization.  Perhaps in a more spacious environment in a calm home with just one other cat, Babs might be just fine.  But for now we think Babs would probably be happy as an only cat.  We know that she is very people and kid friendly and socially interactive, but the chances are that she may not show great at the center because she is nervous/a little upset about all the other cat scents. Given a home of her own, without the stress of other cats, will bring her back to her easy going nature.Babs was with a foster family before coming to the cat adoption center.  This is what her foster family had this to say about her:

'We (2 adults and 2 children-11/13 years old) fostered Babs for about 2months and she was a very easygoing and sweet cat. She adjusted immediately to our home- running, curious and playing right off the bat. She may appear irritable in the center environment but at our home we did not see this side of her personality. We never heard her hiss. She might nibble or scratch a bit during playtime, but would not attack or be aggressive. She slept on our bed every night and got comfortable enough where she would crawl under the covers with us to sleep which we did not mind. She was always around us when she was awake. During the day she loved to take her naps on the beds or in her special basket and towards the end of her stay with us she would sleep next to one of us on the couch. She would let us pick her up for short periods of time and would gracefully wiggle her way out of it when she wanted to be let down. You can pet any part of her body without complaint from her. She is the type of kitty I would choose for a long-term companion cat knowing full well that she will continue to warm up over time.'If you think Babs sounds like that loving, friendly, outgoing, and playful kitty you are looking for, please submit an online adoption application at arwob.org. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application.  If you would like to try a Foster to Adopt trial, please fill out an Adoption Application.  If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application.   Meet Aspen!!

NOTE:  Aspen will be loosing her foster family as of 11/19/20 and will return to her boarding in Tijuana if we cannot find a foster, foster-to-adopt, or adoptive family. Sadly, she isn't the dog for everyone, as she will likely need an experienced dog owner.  Her adopter will need strong dog leadership skills and they must know how to be a good observer and handler.  Aspen is not an “off the leash at the dog park” kind of dog.  She is “dog selective,” which means she is not going to be friends with all dogs, but she is also not going to try to attack them while on leash, nor bark/lunge at them when she has a dog encounter while walking or hiking.  She ignores other dogs for the most part.  Aspen’s ideal home will likely be one who is looking for just one family dog and has no cats. She does love humans!!  Although she has met children on/off leash and has at times been sweet to them, a home without small children would likely be the best for her.  This ideal home can sometimes include playtime with some dogs she considers friends.  Providing dog training from the start would be perfect and her new foster or adopter will be able to talk with her current foster to see what type of training has already been done.  Medically, Aspen is super healthy!  Even though she may be 6 years old and is happy/content with being calm, she can also be pretty active/energetic and would make a great hiking buddy and enjoys long walks.  Her blood work is great and she recently had a dental treatment, including removing her canine teeth and several other teeth that were fractured from the time before she was rescued.
UPDATE 10-31- 20:  Here is what Aspen's foster family has to say about her:'Aspen seemed to have some anxiety when she first arrived at our home and would whine by the door or in her crate or pant a lot, but with a little love and affection she quickly adjusted and learned the rules fast. She responds very well to “no” and knows which areas she’s not allowed in. She did well with formal training and learned how to not pull on the leash and walk nicely by your side, but you will need to be consistent with it. Getting her to sit off leash with a verbal command is difficult as she is not food driven and will not sit for treats. She only sits when she is on leash by your side with a gentle reminder by pulling up on the leash. Sometimes I think she does not like to sit because of her hip (you will notice she sits off to one side). She enjoys eating leaves from the garden and human food (cooked veggies, rice, sweet potato) over dog food, I think because they’re soft and easier to chew. She eats hard dog food very slowly because she is missing several teeth, so maybe soft treats and soft food would be better for her. Aspen sleeps nicely in her crate every night and will go to her crate on her own throughout the day, however she will resist if she knows you are leaving. Sometimes she will run to a corner or under the bed if you tell her to go to her place, but this can easily be fixed with consistent training on leash (when her leash is on, she goes to her place on command). She is not super destructive but has lightly chewed on a few items that were in the yard (boxing glove and yoga mat), but they weren’t destroyed or anything (again, probably has to do with her missing some teeth). She also responds well to “no” if you see her try to grab something or if you correct her for trying to chew on something.Aspen is very independent and likes to explore outside. She has gotten under the house several times by moving a potted plant that was blocking the crawlspace, so make sure there are no holes because she will find it. Several times she has also bolted out of the door when we came home, but if you chase her and yell after her she immediately stops and rolls over on her back. Despite her being a little mischievous at times, she is the absolute sweetest. Even though she likes all people and gets along great with everyone, she has attached onto me and will follow me around everywhere. She likes to sleep under my side of the bed and it has become her spot whenever I’m in bed, or she wants to get away from everyone. She is dominant with other dogs, but lives with a male staffy rescue we brought home a couple weeks after getting Aspen. He is about 3 years old and a little shorter but stockier than her. He gets along with all dogs, has a very playful attitude and they are best buddies now, even sleeping with each other on occasion. When we brought him home we made sure to introduce them in a neutral area and crate rotate them for the first day. We also had a third dog we brought home that same night, a 1-year-old large pit mix with special needs that we temporarily watched for another rescue. It took her an extra day to warm up to him as he did not believe in personal space and would often times get too close to her where she would nip at him. But with constant monitoring and quick corrections if she was being mean, she eventually allowed him into the pack although she still kept her distance most of the time. Naturally, she would get jealous if I pet any of the other dogs and would come over and sit in front of me, so if there are other dogs in the house make sure to be as neutral as possible and share the love equally.Aspen has been great with all people and is extremely friendly with everyone who has come over to the house. However she did growl twice at children when she was crated and they were running by. I think those were isolated incidents because she was upset that she had to stay in the crate and the kids were playing and screaming. While I’m confident that she can be around children, I do see her being possibly too high-energy around smaller kids.Overall Aspen has been the perfect foster daughter. She even has a secret poop corner away from our nice garden and turf, which was nice and made it easy to pick up after her. She is very swe To meet Aspen, please submit an adoption or foster application online at arwob.orgVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application.  If you would like to try a Foster to Adopt trial, please fill out an Adoption Application.  If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application.   Berlioz is a very sweet, docile, young teens boy who was rescued by a local Baja citizen who would feed this young kitten that occasionally would visit in the evening. He was very hesitant of people, but with time, he started to trust his feeder. A month ago, he was able to pick him up and keep him at the vet clinic to board him while he requested help to place him up for adoption. We don't know if he likes dogs, but we can tell he would be fine with other kitties in the home and is a very loving and social handsome kitty.  He will be ready for adoption mid March. We will need a foster or adopter for this very handsome, sweet sweet boy.  Check back for more information about him closer to his available date. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. Please thoroughly read her written biography below, so that you will  learn of her adorable personality and some quirky behaviors.  This will determine if she would be a good match for you and your family.  If you’d like to meet her, please submit an online adoption application (to adopt OR foster-to-adopt) or an online foster application (if ONLY interested in fostering), and we will contact you within 48 hours. UPDATE 2/25/21:  Here is what Coco's NEW foster mom has to say about her: Bad things about Coco: Barks a lot when excited Urine marks around other dogs (might not if there are no other dogs)Wants to be the only dog Good things about Coco:An active, sweet cuddler!Likes to play and go on walksTravels and sleeps well in a crate 'Coco likes to play fetch and she likes toys. She loves carrots and other veggies. She will jump up on the couch and sit on your lap for hours. She likes to go on walks and does not pull too much. As you’ll see in the videos, she has lots of of energy!  She is also fine with cats.' ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY: This sweet little lady had a hard life and only recently has had a second chance.  She has several quirks which are not the best and this is through no fault of her own.  Her current foster family has had her for months and sadly she is not adjusting.  Most of her quirky behaviors are likely also related to her being in a home with many dogs and cats.  She will likely do best in a quiet, easy going home with NO other pets.  Ideally her adopter will be a retiree or a family that works from home, who lives in a house (NOT an apartment), as her excited vocalizations would be an issue for an apartment dweller.  Her adopter can request a “foster-to-adopt” trial for 2 weeks to get to know her, but they need to understand that Coco will need dog training to help improve/minimize her quirkiness.  We feel an experienced dog owner would be best for Coco. He’s a keeper!  Danna & Danny should be adopted together.  They are a good match when it comes to play and both are pretty mellow kitties -- plus I think Danna really needs him!UPDATE 2-11-21:Danna will need an experienced foster or adopter who is willing to make her a priority and to socialize her so she becomes more interested in interacting with people.  Being that she is young, we believe that with enough positive attention, repetition, and a definite routine that includes human touch/exposure, she will come around and be more loving towards people.  For now, we would not recommend her for someone who is looking for a lap cat or a companion for children. ORIGINAL RESCUE STORY: This little family of 5 kittens was rescued back in late November.  A good Samaritan was walking by the bay in Ensenada Mexico and heard kids screaming in chaos.  The children had found the 5 kittens between the rocks and the water was rising!  The good Samaritan approached and saw what was going on, so they decided to rescue all of them.  It seemed the mama cat had chosen the wrong place to move her kittens and they were never able to locate her.  The little family was infested with fleas and very malnourished, but thankfully they began to eat on their own right away. We were waiting for a foster to take them in, so that we could arrange transport to San Diego.  Now that these 5 kiddos are here, we are getting to know them better, while providing them better care and attention.  So far it seems that Donny and Donna are a little bit more “scardy cat” than their 3 siblings, who are more outgoing.  They get along well with other cats, however they have not been tested around dogs, so we are not sure how they might react at this point.   As of the first week in February, these cuties are being fostered in the 92117 areas, in 2 different foster homes.  Their foster families are working on socializing them and getting to know them better.  We plan to update their bios before Valentine’s Day and the kittens will be available for adoption after 2/12/21.  We recommend that if you are interested in these adorable kittens, to submit an online adoption application at www.arwob.org.  This will get the process started and if your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet for you.  If the meet and greet session goes well, the kittens can be adopted that same day.   Priority will be given to adopters who have another cat living in the home. If you are considering adopting and do not already have another animal at home, please consider adopting another kitten, teen, or adult as well. Kittens are very cat oriented. As with all young kittens, these kiddos would be much too lonely without a companion when you are not home. This way they will have another kitty to play and cuddle up with when you are not with them, and, as an added bonus, they will double your pleasure and fun as well! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. The kittens are of course now "older" at 8-10mo of age and now no longer wanted.  We agreed to take them if we got the mama spayed and now we have 3 gorgeous siblings seeking families. They don't need to be adopted together although the two sisters are always around each other and seek each other out. The boy hasn't bonded with the girls.  They are all a little shy, especially when going to the vet or any stress like new people or homes, or traveling, but in a normal environment without stress will seek attention, although always keeing an eye on their surroundings. These teens we are just getting their medical done and are currently at the vet boarding. Once they are ready, they will go to foster or our adoption center. Please come back and check in on update bios, pics and videos. They will be ready for adoption in mid March.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. Fargo is urgently looking for a foster or foster to adopt.  He is a young adult cat who was rescued from the streets and he arrived at a home porch one day. The people started to feed him daily so he kept coming back every day for food until one day they took him inside and realized he wasn't neutered or microchipped so they sought help in order to place this social cat into a home.  He has been an indoor cat since rescued and doing really well! He is ok with cats. These two gorgeous young dogs were rescued from the streets of Ensenada Mexico.  A good Samaritan noticed two new dogs wandering in their neighborhood.  The dogs started to hang around and sleep on the sidewalk nearby.  The good Sam contacted a local Ensenada rescue for help, who took them in and started quarantine/vaccines right away, so they could be placed in ARWOB’s adoption program.   We believe these two are siblings, as Ginger is VERY attached to Fred and is always following him around and cuddles with him when they sleep.  So far we can see that both of them are very sweet dogs.  Fred seems to be the more outgoing happy-go-lucky type, whereas Ginger is more the gentle, worried soul, but both of them are very loving and playful.  They have done well with dog introductions, but so far they have NOT been tested with cats.  Fred and Ginger are starting to learn crate training, but adopters need to be prepared to treat them as if they are still puppies and provide them with all the training required (i.e. crate training, house training, and obedience training).  It would be great if they could be adopted together!!  If not, Ginger would likely do best in a home with another dog for a friend.  The ideal adopter will be someone with a home and  a yard, so they will have space to run and play.  We would love to find them an active adopter, as they would make a wonderful hiking partner for someone who loves to be active and outside. We are still getting to know Fred and Ginger and we will update their bios as we learn more.  They will be available to meet as early as Friday, 2/26/21.  Therefore, we recommend if you are interested in adopting one of these cuties, that you submit an online adoption application now so that you can be ready to meet them as early as 2/26.  Applications can be submitted at www.arwob.org.  Don’t wait!    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. Sweet mama Frou-Frou was taken in as an owner relinquishment, along with her two male puppies Edgar and Peppo.  Their previous owner has some medical issues, so they sought help on social media.  The little family of three had been living with a foster family in Ensenada Mexico and they just arrived in San Diego on 2/22/21. We anticipate the puppies will be a small breed in the 15-20 pound range when full grown, as Frou-Frou their mom is full grown at 13 pounds.  The puppies look a little “puggly” sometimes (ha, ha!), but mama Frou-Frou is likely a poodle/terrier mix.  Please do not apply for a member of this family if you are looking for a “hypoallergenic” or “low shedding” dog, as we do not know if they fit this criteria.  We haven’t noticed if mama fits this definition and the puppies are too young to know if they will be “low shedding” or if they will shed a lot as adults. This little family are not expected to be house trained, so adopters will need to be willing to provide this training.  They are just learning crate training.  They do NOT like to be alone, therefore apartment living for a single working adult will not work for them.  All three of these cuties are great with people, dogs, and cats!  They will be available for a “meet and greet” as soon as Saturday, 2/27/21.  If all goes well during the meet, they can go home the same day with approved adopters.Because of COVID-19, sterilization appointments have been difficult to schedule.  Frou-Frou, Edgar, and Peppo will all be sterilized in the on Wednesday, March 3, 2021.  Their sterilizations will be done in the 92104 zip code area of San Diego.  Therefore, priority will given to local area applicants.  This will ensure they are able to take the dogs to the pre-scheduled surgery appointment and then pick them up at the end of the day after surgery.  Please do NOT submit an application if you do not live in the San Diego area.  If you would like to adopt and live outside of San Diego area, you are welcome to wait until their sterilization surgery has been completed to see if they are still available (please note that we do not place holds on any of our rescues). We will update their bios with more information once we learn more about them.  If you would like to adopt one of these cuties, please submit an application online at www.arwob.org.  Don’t wait!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application.  If you would like to try a Foster to Adopt trial, please fill out an Adoption Application.  If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application.   Iggy is a very handsome swirl/tabby marking brown tabby who's a young teen rescued in Ensenada, Mexico. He was abandoned by someone at the age of 3mo in the vet clinic during closed hours. The little guy game in already with an old injury and it was obvious his injury affected his eye, which is no longer functioning. We don't know what happened, but aside from aesthethics, we are waiting to have him come to San Diego for an opinion if he needs to have it removed during his neuter surgery or let it be. Toulouse will be ready for adoption mid March. At this time, he is very sweet but can also be shy/insecure when meeting new people, as this poor guy had spent the majority of his life at the vet clinic waiting for someone to help him. Arwob was informed about him and decided to take him to help him find a foster or adoptive home and away from a kennel setting.  We will update his biography with more biography and pics/videos as we get to know him.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application.
