Personality: Anna has been a wonderfully loving and attentive Mom to her 5 beautiful puppies! She's just starting to let herself relax and enjoy her new life, and has shown us brief glimpses of just how playful and loving she can be. She is still a bit nervous when meeting new people, and will often cower and/or back away when approached. She enjoys being petted and after several weeks finally worked up to let us rub her belly, but she will sometimes stiffen up to let you know she's had enough for now. She hasn't been exposed to too many new people or environments during her foster stay since she was nursing most of the time. Anna is house trained and adjusted well to a routine of several trips outside per day to go potty. Anna voluntarily went into her crate for naps on a regular basis. We did not lock her in her crate, since she always wanted to have access to her puppies. But given how relaxed she seemed to be in there, I suspect she would be ok with being locked in a crate for sleeping, etc. History: Anna has been in a foster home with two adults, a large dog, a smaller dog, and a dog-friendly kitty. She has typically had run-of-the-house during the day and stayed with her puppies at night. She's had access to a doggy door to go to an enclosed space outside when she wanted. Dog/ Cat Skills: Anna has done really well with the two resident dogs in her foster home. She was understandably nervous when they went near her puppies, but she approached them and gave them signals to back away, and once they did she relaxed. After she was with us for a while, she started to initiate short play episodes, especially with the bigger dog. She also played well with her puppies as they got older. She hasn't met any other dogs while she's been here. Anna has gotten along well with the very dog-friendly resident cat in her foster home. If anything, she was sometimes a bit nervous around the kitty. But she showed no prey drive towards him. On walks, she perked up at the sound of birds and other small animals, but no evidence of strong prey drive there either. Leash Skills: Anna walks great on a leash! She doesn't yet voluntarily come to get her leash put on when called, and sometimes cowers a bit or backs up slowly when you reach to leash her. But if you are slow and confident when you approach her, she will let you leash her and will then willingly go outside for a walk. I suspect she will enjoy much longer walks once she doesn't feel responsible for puppies anymore! She walks well with her tail up and keeps a decent pace without pulling at all.Ready to meet Anna? Animal's Name: Cer (pronounced Say-er)Animal ID Number: 183624What should your foster's bio say? Cer is a spritely puppy with the desire to play and run. She is very adventurous and curious to discover new things. Her favorite toys are small ones that squeak, are furry, or that crinkle. Very treat motivated and walks around the bowl to eat. She seems like the type of dog that would love hiking, camping and other outdoor activities. What did you implement for house training? Do you think it's working? She is not quite house trained and still needs to be contained in an Ex Pen with Puppy pads when she doesn't have outside access every hour. She knows the command "go potty" for both pee and poop. Make sure to pick up the poop right after or she might eat it. Working on getting her to leave it. She will whine if she has to go potty or will quietly sit next to the door to go outside so she seems to understand we go potty outside.Have you introduced them to a crate? If so, what kind of crate and what was their reaction? She is not crate trained but is Ex Pen contained when we can't keep a constant eye on her since she is not quite house trained. Inside her Ex Pen is a dog bed with a heating pad on low, a plastic dog carrier with a blanket, toys, and lots of puppy pads on the rest of the floor. She has not been crated to sleep but sleeps in the ex pen on the dog bed most of the time. How many hours did you leave them home alone? What was their behavior like when left alone?Since she is contained in an ex pen with puppy pads she can stay in the pen for 3 hours but will pee after a nap and poop after eating. What is their behavior like with other animals? She is fostered with her sister and no other animals. Ber and Cer puppy play very well and they take turns being the alpha and playing with toys. What is their behavior like with new people and/or children? : She was not introduced to new people but would think she would go right up to a new person and be extremely friendly. She is still mouthy so will nibble on hands and hair, so small children should be supervised. Is there anything else that you would like the new adopter to know about this dog, such as any special tricks or adorable traits? Cer wants to be where the action is so might take toys away from other dogs. She gets fed 3 times a day 4 hours apart. Personality: Cooper is an active, social, high energy teen looking for an experienced adult home. He is a smart dog willing to work for food and toys. Cooper is very energetic and would make an excellent running or hiking partner. With his energy, he would benefit from plenty of physical and mental exercise along with continued basic training as he likes to keep busy. Cooper has a boisterous personality and can be jumpy and excited when meeting new people so it's good to reward him for calm behavior. He is recommended to go to a family that has experience with working breed traits where he can be given lots of daily outlets and mental enrichment. History: Cooper came to HSSV as a stray. Dog/Cat Skills: Cooper enjoys engaging dogs in play, especially chase, but can be very forward and bossy. He has shown to do better with female dogs who are tolerant of his vocal, rowdy play style. Cooper was recently neutered and has shown willingness to target or bully male dogs. He participates in playgroup daily and enjoys chase and wrestle play to help burn his energy. Cooper has shown hyper focus on cats and willingness to chase them. Adopters should be educated on breed tendencies. Leash Skills: Cooper pulls while walking on a leash. He would benefit from the use of a front clipping harness. Cooper can become easily excited and vocal on leash when he sees dogs. We work on this by calmly redirecting and choosing lower traffic walking routes. Ready to meet Cooper? Personality: Darryl is a fun kitty that loves to be showered with attention! He is always waiting by the door hoping someone will stop by to visit him. He enjoys being next to his human, even when just relaxing on the couch. He also enjoys being pet, but he can become uncomfortable with heavy petting if not given any breaks in between. If you watch his body language closely, you'll be able to tell when he's had enough petting.History: Darryl came to us from another shelter.Cat/Dog Skills: Darryl has his own room at this time but is able to see cats through his window and currently has no reaction to them. There is no history of Darryl interacting with dogs.Medical: Darryl came to HSSV with a face wound, but he was successfully treated and just needs more time for all his fur to grow back. Darryl tested positive for the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) on a routine screening test. Cats with FIV can live long and happy lives, but with their immune system affected by the virus they can be more susceptible to illness or infection. Darryl has been diagnosed with periodontal disease (also known as gum disease or dental disease)and has had a dental cleaning recently at HSSV. His teeth were cleaned and polished and evaluated for fractures. Teeth that were determined to be unhealthy were removed. Ready to meet Darryl? Personality: Diggy Smalls is all about that party life! He loves to be the center of attention from both, humans and other dogs. Diggy enjoys lots of playtime with toys and running around with his canine friends. He is a high energy large boy with personality matching his size. Diggy does best with experienced handlers who know how to calm him and redirect him to polite behaviors. With his energy, Diggy Smalls would benefit from plenty of physical and mental exercise and a family who is comfortable managing a high energy, large dog. DIGGY SMALLS IS A STAFF AND VOLUNTEER FAVORITE! A training scholarship has been funded by The Pedigree Foundation.History: Diggy Smalls came to us from another shelter.Dog/Cat skills: Diggy Smalls is very playful and loves to run around with other high energy dogs. He can be more selective about male dogs but he loves all the ladies and will initiate play and chase with everyone he comes across. We have no history on how Diggy is around cats.Leash Skills: Diggy Smalls is a large and strong dog who will need to walk with appropriate equipment to control him. It also helps when he gets proper outlets for his energy.Medical: This dog had a condition called "entropion" in both eyes, which means that his eyelid margins rolled inward, causing corneal irritation. The entropion has been surgically repaired in both eyes. He is due for a suture removal, under sedation, sometime around 2/21-2/23/20. If adopted prior to suture removal, this can be performed at HSSV as a scheduled sedation procedure (at no cost to the adopting family). After the sutures are removed, no further treatment for this condition is anticipated."Ready to meet Diggy?
