My name is Elliott, and my perfect home would have kids, dogs and a big yard to run and play in. I’m friendly, but sometimes I’m a scaredy cat and hide in my crate if there are new people around – especially big men – or if I hear loud or unfamiliar noises. I get along great with kids and like to sniff them while they pet me. I’m a good listener who is leash and crate trained. I’m also learning basic commands like sit, stay, come and down. I love getting petted, and I’m yours forever if you rub my belly. I can’t get enough of my chew toys, and I’m learning how to play fetch. It’s great fun to roll in monkey grass and run around the yard, especially if there’s someone to play chase. Our goal is to take the steps to ensure each animal/family pairing is an ideal match so the animal can live in harmony with his/her forever home. Our adoption application process is below: Submit Application • Applicants must be 21 years or older and must be able to provide proof of age. • Applicant must live within 50 miles of Memphis or Nashville if interested in adopting and within 30 miles of Memphis if interested in fostering. • Please allow 4-7 business days to process your application. • Click here to apply. Approve Application • Applicants are required to provide personal and vet references. We will be calling these references before approving the application. Interview • Applicants will interview with the ALIVE Rescue President first. If approved, you will get to speak to the dogs foster family after. Home Visit (MEMPHIS ONLY) • If in Memphis we will do a home visit to give the adopter the opportunity to meet their potential new best friend. If the adopter has other animals we will do an introduction to make sure everyone gets along. Pay Fee • Currently, the adoption fee to adopt is $275 for ages 1 year and up and $300 for under a year. Sign Adoption Contract • Once adoption is approved and fees are paid, applicants will sign our ALIVE Rescue Adoption Contract to finalize the adoption. Take the Pet Home • Welcoming your new family member is the last step, and the best step! Additional Adoption Info • We require an additional $75 training deposit at the time of adoption. You will be required to enroll and complete a training class with your new companion at one of our approved training facilities. Once ALIVE Rescue Memphis receives proof of the completed class, this $75 deposit will be refunded. • Any current pets must be up to date on vaccinations, and be spayed/neutered. Exceptions to this will only be considered if proof of a medical explanation is provided. • All members of the family living in the home where the animal will be placed must be interviewed. show less

** Hugh & Lily are a bonded pair. They must be adopted together-however this adoption will double the love in your home.** Hi, I'm Hugh! My mom went to assisted living and me and my best friend Lilly had no place to go. Thankfully ALIVE Memphis swooped in and gave me and my girlfriend a sweet place to crash while waiting for our forever home. I'm a funny but shy guy. It's safe to say Lilly wears the pants in this relationship. She likes to explore and meet new people and smell new things-I'm comfier hanging in the back and watching her. Although it takes me a little bit of time to feel comfy, a handful of treats, and comfort, and I will be hanging on the couch next to you in no time. I LOVE to snuggle and when I have made a friend with a human my favorite thing to do is to give hugs. I have met other dogs and if they are into playing I get excited and follow suit, but I'm appropriate if they are not into a Hugh playdate. I may have a few moments of play in the house with a toy, but I'm really just content taking long naps on the couch. My foster home consists of a wonderful lady who takes care of me and Lilly, her two personal dogs, and her two children. I have meshed well with everyone here and I'm pretty low maintenance in my opinion. Me and my girl Lilly would do best in a home that is on the quiet and low-energy side. A fenced yard versus having to walk on busy city streets would also be our ideal situation. We are ready to retire and don't need the hustle and bustle of city life, like those other young whippersnappers ALIVE Memphis has available for adoption. I'm totally the more laid-back one in this relationship, but also the braver of our adorable duo. It's also safe to say I'm the one who wears the pants in this relationship. I have no problems exploring new places and meeting new people. However, I honestly prefer to find the comfiest spot in the house and observe in between taking comfy naps. I have three things in my life that I need to stay happy--Hugh, my blanket, and food. At this age, it's important to narrow down what you love and focus on that. My foster home consists of a wonderful lady who takes care of me and Hugh, her two personal dogs, and her two children. I'm a typical puppy so I love to play hard and nap hard. My foster mom has been great about socializing me with people and other pups. She refers to me as brave and fearless! I'm great with other dogs and my future home needs to have at least one other canine friend for me to play with. I do well with my canine foster brother who is bigger than me and thankfully puts up with having a young girl in his house. I love to wrestle with him, but I also take his cues when he is over playing with an energetic puppy. I'm working on some basic commands and crate training. I do much better when people are around, so I would do best with a big family with a rotating home schedule or person who works from home. A name like Major is perfect for a big boy like me, but I’m actually a social butterfly at heart. I think that all dogs and people should be friends and I’m happy to meet them all. I am unbelievably cute when I want a little attention. I tilt my head, prance like a pony, bark like a puppy and wag my tail. Body of a beast-bark of a yorkie. :) Squeaky balls that fit in my mouth are my favorite, and the squeakier the better. After a hard day of playing, I turn into a great couch potato. I’m leash-trained, crate-trained and treat-driven. I also love going on adventures and I do great on car rides. I’m still a little shy, but make friends quickly (especially if treats are involved.) In my foster home, I love to play with my bucket of toys. I grab each one and pile it in my kennel until the bucket is empty. So potential adopters take note! My ideal family would go on lots of walks and visit places with lots of smells. A home with a yard would be a huge plus because I’m really into sunbathing. I am known for my puppy dog eyes and how I wag my tail and bob my head as I walk. Look at me I’m Sandy! I came into the rescue as a momma dog, but now that my puppies are adopted it is time for me to find my forever home too. I’m always happy to see every human and dog I meet. I have never met a stranger and I’m literally the Wal-Mart greeter of dogs. The only complaint a person would have walking me in a busy area, is that I will stop to say hi to every dog and child, and person I see. I love to play with my foster siblings! My foster home consists of two little guys smaller than me and a large female who has a few pounds on me. I love to play and wrestle with my big friend but I’m polite and appropriate to the smaller dogs in my foster home. Don’t let all this playing talk scare you though-I’m also down to cuddle on the couch and binge Netflix with my foster parents. I’m like Velcro and am never far from my humans. Hi, I’m Virginia! My current roommates are 3 cats, one being a 4-month-old kitten. I especially love that baby kitty, but you should see how I come alive when I’m around other dogs. In fact, I think being around another dog or multiple canine friends would be my idea forever home. I'm nervous around new people at first, but once I trust you, I will become your personal shadow and want to be wherever you are. My favorite things to play with are my Kong toy and balls.
