About Us: The Anti-Cruelty Society is Chicagoâs oldest and largest, private, non-profit, open-admission, unlimited stay humane society. Also known as the SPCA of Illinois, the Society receives no government funding or funding from national organizations; we are supported by generous individuals, foundations, and corporations. At The Anti-Cruelty Society we believe: â¢ In an open admission policy â we will not turn away any animal in need â¢ There are no time or space limits placed on any animal in our care â¢ No healthy or rehabilitatable pet should ever be euthanized â¢ The key to pet overpopulation is sterilization â¢ Education can prevent cruelty, abuse and neglect, and promote responsible pet ownership â¢ If an animalâs quality of life is severely compromised, euthanasia is the most humane alternative At The Anti-Cruelty Society, we are building a community of caring by helping pets and educating people.

Adoption Instructions

Adoption Process: Selection Our representatives are located in the cat and dog adoption rooms to assist in making the best choice for your family and lifestyle and answer any questions. Application and Counseling Once you have decided on an animal, our representatives will provide you with a questionnaire. Our counselors will review the questionnaire information with you. If your adoption is approved, we will provide you with information on training, health, basic care, and answer any questions you may have. Adoption Requirements: â¢ Must be at least 18 years of age for adoption. Seniors 60 and over qualify to have their adoption fee for cats one year of age or older covered through the Pets for the Elderly Program. (Paid in part through the generosity of The Pets for the Elderly Foundation). â¢ Have valid ID with current address â¢ Renters must provide their landlordâs name and phone number, or a copy of the lease â¢ All adult members of the household should be present

It is hard to resist the cuteness level of a kitten. If you think you are ready to add a new kitten to your family, remember a few things: kittens have lots of energy, and want to play, wrestle, climb, and explore all day long. Kittens thrive on having another cat or kitten to keep them entertained, as they can get lonely when their favorite people are away from the house. Kittens have not yet learned manners, so they will need someone to teach them important skills like how to use a scratching post, that curtain climbing will probably not be allowed in their new home, and that hands are great for getting pet and filling food bowls, not to nibble on.
