Amerikaner is an absolute sweetheart. He is very talkative and would love another kitty for company. He loves to explore or just snooze right next to you or on your lap. He can be a little skittish and even adults still frighten him but with a little trust he warms up. He has such a funny personality. Zoom meetings? No problem. He's happy to join. Typing? He loves that too. He also has a little talent for asking you to stay. If you try and leave a room, he follows behind and taps your leg twice with his paw to get you to stay. A little tense when kennel was open and dodged leash a few times. Once leashed, very easy to lead out of kennel. Easy to return to kennel. Leash Skills: Pulls Minimally On Leash - Minimal pulling on leash. Walks almost in pace with handler. Gets fearful walking through the kennel due to loud barking. Handleability: Tense/Allows all handling - Tense body when first brought into eval room. Loosened body with low tail wags when handler sat on the floor. Amira sat in handler's lap and solicited attention. Allowed all over petting. Recommend going slow and letting her set the pace. Very treat motivated - give with open palm. Aviana ACCT-A-82253 Intake Reason: Stray (APO Pickup) Sex: Female Age: 4Y Altered: no Videos: Aviana and Wheezy dog meet -- https://youtu.be/gRidtWVyiCU Medical Observation: 1/10 (Per Vet)-- Bloody stool in kennel 1/8 (Vet Check) -- Lesions on carpus and tarsus appear to be pressure sores likely due to extended exposure to hard surfaces, suspect from being caged. They appear non-infectious but will likely remain unchanged in appearance. Patient presents with moderate periodontal disease (devitalized canines) and would benefit from dental surgery. Saliva staining likely secondary to allergies - food v. atopy. She appears nonpruritic at this time. Patient's friendly demeanor makes her a very good candidate for adoption. 1/7 (Intake Exam) -- Underweight; sores and lesions all over body; pressure sores on forearms and hind legs; muscle wasting all over body; open lesions on paws; dirty ears; underbite Behavior Observation: 1/11 (Per Foster Staff)-- Details from dog meet - Aviana and Agatha were walking towards each other in the parking lot so we conducted a brief meet with them. Both dogs were very polite and tolerant, tails flagging, and took turns sniffing each other. The meet went very well and both Aviana and Agatha appear to be dog-friendly. 1/10 (Per Volunteer)-- Kennel Presentation: Easy to leash/social. Does try to head butt out of the door Leash Skills: Pulls Minimally On Leash. Very nice leash walker Handleability: Tense/Allows all handling. Started off with some mild crouching when I tried to pet her. She overcame that quickly and was OK w/ most handling. Tag: Engages in play Toys: Accepts a trade. She got a little obsessed with a ball but easily traded for a treat. A little grabby with treats. I just tossed them. Color Level: Gold 1/9 (Per Foster Staff) -- Dog approached handler as soon as she was greeted in kennel. Easy to leash and lead out of kennel. Very minimal pulling on leash - walks pretty much in pace with handler. Once in eval room, solicited attention from handler, sat for treats, engaged in tag, allowed all over handling and petting. Did get a little stiff when body was first pet, but loosened up and leaned into the pets. Very social and followed handler around. Very easy to return to kennel. Enjoys treats! 1/8 (Per Vet) -- very friendly and affectionate; seeks attention; tolerates handling and examination 1/8 (Per Lifesaving) -- During dog meet with Wheezy, Aviana seemed fine with Wheezy up until Wheezy tried to mount Aviana (See video "Aviana and Wheezy dog meet") 1/7 (Per Staff) -- Super super sweet docile friendly as can be young lady.. Bella ACCT-A-80046 Intake: Owner Surrender Sex: Female Age: 2Y Altered: Yes Meet Bella! This brindle beauty is about 2 years old and full of love. She's the tug-o-war queen and happily entertains herself with her rope and Kong toys. She indulges in long naps in her kennel or bed throughout the day, while coming over every once in a while for a nice rub. She enjoys walks around the neighborhood and is great on the leash. Bella's a little timid of loud noises and busy intersections but is getting more comfortable on each walk. She will need to be the only pet in the home, as she is reactive to other dogs. Bella will need time to warm up, but will be extremely loyal to her new family. Bella is crate trained and working on house training. Recommend further work up at full service hospital with radiographs and sedated orthopedic examination. 1/1 (Per Clinic) -- Unable to examine due to behavior. Came in for right hind leg limping, seen limping out side, recommend x-rays. 12/3 (Vet Check) -- The patient is a young adult large breed dog with a reported history of dragging one of her back legs. On orthopedic exam today, she appeared to be comfortable on all four limbs and no dragging was observed. 11/29 (Physical Exam) -- Red eyes, hair loss, BAR Behavior Observation: 1/12 (Per Vet)-- unable to handle awake, sedated exam 1/5 (Per Volunteer) -- Volunteer mentioned that she had Bella out and while outside Bella was affectionate, social, and soliciting pets. On return to kennels Bella's demeanor changed and she began to growl and snap (not sure if she snapped at handler or at leash). 1/5 (Per Volunteer)-- Kennel Presentation---Easy to leash/social---Easy to leash and remove from kennel. Began hard barking once back in kennel. Jumping on kennel door and barked at me. Tired to escape. Leash Skills---Pulls Moderately On Leash---Eager to explore and go for a walk. Pulls on leash but manageable due to her size Handleability---Loose/Allows all handling---Very sweet and allowed all handling. He did not solicit much attention on walk but once in run stayed close to me. Tag--No interest---Not interested in playing. Preferred sniffing Toys---No interest--Chased a ball but did not retrieve or show interest. Knows Sit and is housetrained. We passed one dog and Bella showed no interest 1/5 (Per Previous Foster) -- Bella loves cheese and peanut butter, knows "sit and was starting to understand "shake and "stay. She is crate-trained, and not fully housebroken but had been taking outside about every 2-3 hours during the day and rewarding all outdoor bathroom breaks; started to bark when she needed to go out (most of the time). Bella was reactive to other dogs and young children, would probably do best as the only pet. She's a super chewer, but only on her toys! 1/4 (Intake) -- Returned from foster due to continued reactivity towards strangers, dogs, and children that has not improved over duration of foster care. 1/4 (Per Previous Foster) -- She barks at all people and dogs when approached, and tends to pull towards them. She'll bark at some people/dogs that are further away (across the street or down the block), especially if they speak or acknowledge her. We've had some friends throw her cheese from a distance and she does calm down for a bit. Once they stop giving her treats, she'll start barking until we walk away from them. Yesterday an Amazon delivery person opened our front door, she was barking and tried to get to him. In all of the excitement, she somehow jumped up and bit my hand. It didn't break the skin. 12/3 (Per Staff) -- Standing at front of kennel with tail tucked and shaking, but when handler approached wagged tail slightly - remained tense and shaking. When kennel door opened Becca retreated to the back of the kennel and was avoidant of handling. Handler kneeled down in kennel and was able to loop Becca, as soon as loop went over her head she turned around and exited kennel. Pulled hard on leash through kennels, and remained tense on leash at times flashing around, but then would settle down. Once in run stayed close to handlers soliciting attention and leaning in for pets with wagging tail and loose body, but would yawn, whimper and pant simultaneously. Handler had to step back into kennel and Becca followed behind, no issues removing leash. 12/2 (Per Staff) -- Attempted to remove from kennel but Becca is very nervous. At front of kennel when handler approached and would sniff hand but retreat. Would return to front of kennel for cheese and stayed at front when kennel door was opened and leash presented. Easily leashed but then retreated to back of kennel. Would come back to handler when lured with cheese. Would take cheese gently from hand and allowed handler to slowly pet but would not exit kennel despite coaxing and cheese. Spent a few minutes in kennel with Becca and she would allow petting and solicit attention from handler but could not get her to exit. Friendly; BAR Behavior Observation: (1/18) Per Foster Staff -- Kennel Presentation - Easy to leash/social. Shy but approaches kennel door and allows leashing. On return, hesitant to re-enter but will go in with a bit of encouragement, or if handler steps in first. Leash Skills - Pulls Minimally On Leash. Walks excellently on leash with almost no pulling at all. We encountered another dog through the fence. Benjey perked his ears up and raised his tail, then trotted over to the other dog and sniffed him through the fence with tail flagging. It was very easy to redirect his attention just by calling his name, and he did not fixate on the other dog. Handleability - Tense/Allows all handling. Was initially quite tense and took time to warm up. He was tense outside while in the run, but once he came into indoor eval room he loosened up and allowed allover handling. Eventually he began soliciting attention, licking my hand and giving kisses. He would place his head on handler's lap, lean up against handler and lay down right next to handler. He takes his time warming up, but then allows all handling and gets cuddly and affectionate. Go slow at first until he is ready. Tag - Engages in play Toys - Gives up willingly. Initially had Benjey in a run outside, where he was not interested in toys. He appeared tense and nervous outside and would flinch or tense up at any loud sounds or cars passing. Went into the indoor eval room, where he was still tense at first, but once he found a tennis ball he became very excited and happy, started wagging his tail and jumping around with the ball. He would drop the ball at the handler's feet and allow handler to pick it up without issue, no resource guarding observed. Very playful! Evaluated Blue due to nervousness, but hand-shyness has improved considerably and overall behavior is much better. (1/12) Per Foster Staff -- Kennel Presentation - Nervous. Nervous in kennel. Would approach handler to take treats from hand but ran away from leash. Took many attempts to successfully leash him. Once leashed, exited kennel easily. Also re-entered without issue, but then would not approach kennel door so I could remove leash. Leash Skills - Fearful. No pulling, but afraid of leash. Handleability - Tense and nervous, would initially duck or move away when attempted handling. Avoidant of handler and only approached a few times for drive-by sniffs. Later approached me with some low tail wags and allowed some pets on his back, but appeared wary and whale-eyed me so handled very minimally. Did not attempt tag. Interested in toys but does not take possession. Followed a ball when tossed. Evaluated Blue, recommend TTA. (1/11) Per Foster Staff -- Attempted to remove for evaluation. Benjey would tentatively approach me to take treats but was scared of the leash and would run to the other side of the kennel any time I tried to leash him. No aggression shown, just nervous of people and afraid of leash. Will reattempt eval later today. (1/9) Per Previous Owner -- Protects his home, obeys most of the time but can become territorial when people come to the house such as barking and trying to jump on them. He also wont allow other dogs to eat and move their bowls. He stalks around the other animals in the home and won't let them play or move around. Has been biting the other dogs in the home, usually he will stop when owner approaches and directs him to do so. Walks very nicely on leash next to his handler. Knows sit, get down, and go pee. He is a good dog but just needs the right environment without another male dog. show less

Intake Type: Stray Sex: Male Altered: Yes Age: 1Y (estimated) Medical Observation: (12/31) Apparently healthy; Some thinning hair near tail; Friendly; BAR Behavior Observation: 12/30 (per foster staff) -- Kennel Presentation - Easy to leash/social. Presented at the front of the kennel calmly. Easily leashed. When we exited the kennel and started down the row he attempted to pull back towards his kennel, but was redirected easily when handler called to him. On return to kennel, he would not enter until handler entered first. He followed but then attempted to push out while handler exited. Leash Skills - Pulls Strongly On Leash. Pulls strongly through kennels and once outside until he goes to the bathroom. Once he has gone his pulling lessens and walks pretty well. He is strong so would benefit from a harness. Handleability - Aroused/Allows all handling. Aroused, sniffing around perimeter of outdoor run and trotting back and forth constantly. Would return to handler frequently for pets and to solicit attention. Allowed petting all over, loves butt scratches. Was loose and wiggly but aroused. Tag - Engages in play. Initially engages but loses interest quickly. Toys - Interest but does not take possession. Evaluated Gold. 12/30 (per finder) -- The perfect dog, house trained, very friendly, got along with the finder's children ages 2, 3,5, and 13, got along with the finder's 2 cats, humps a lot. His initial in-house BG was equivocal for diabetes vs stress hyperglycemia. He will require institution of insulin therapy, which is beyond the scope of what can be provided in the shelter. 1/15 (Vet Check) -- Patient presents for PU/PD. Senior bloodwork (CBC/Chemistry/T4) recommended to rule out potential causes of clinical signs (DM v. hyperthyroidism v. renal disease). Moderate periodontal disease also suspected based on limited oral exam. Dental extractions recommended for any pathway. 1/14 (Intake Exam) --Dry skin; dirty coat; Severely extruded canines; painful; tartar; red gums; Pupils very dilated; Severe mite infection Behavior Observation: 1/16 (Per Lifesaving) -- Boutton did not really react to me opening the kennel door, and flinched when the door creaked open. Butter ACCT-A-78944 Intake Reason: Owner Surrender Sex: Male Age: 10 years old Altered: Yes Personality: This is Butter! He may be a senior doggo, but sometimes it seems like no one told him that! He loves to play if you offer him a toy, but also seems to find no greater joy in the world than snuggling up on the couch and watching a movie. No matter how much room on the couch there is, if you invite him, he will find a way to squeeze onto it and maneuver his head onto your lap for pets. He is also a master of the cutest sad-eyes when you stop petting him. He is very well trained and is a people-pleaser with his behavior. For example, he was sniffing at something he shouldn't get into, but after being told "no" just once, he stopped immediately and didn't mess with it again. He has had no accidents in the house, is very happy to hang out in his crate, and has shown no interest in chewing on anything that is not a dog toy. It is rare to meet a 70-pound dog and immediately know that it has 0% aggression and 100% love, but that is Butter for you. He even coexists well with cats! If your home has love to give and couches that you're okay with a dog being on, then Butter is the dog for you. He was very friendly for today's exam and his behavior has greatly improved following his surgery. He has a moderate lameness of his right forelimb with thickening at the elbow - which likely represents osteoarthritis. He has a small dermal mass on his left hind leg, which may be an additional mast cell tumor. (11/18) Vet Check: The patient's scrotal tumor was a low grade mast cell tumor (MCT), which carry a relatively good prognosis with most dogs surviving over two years. He may develop additional mast cell tumors that will need to be removed, and due to the size and location of the tumor it is likely that some neoplastic tissue was left behind, so recurrence is possible. . (11/13) Vet check: 3-4 day postoperative for scrotal mass removal. Patient remains quieter and nervous - uncertain if medications administered have been taken as patient has not been eating. Mild erythema and swelling seen at most caudal aspect of incision site may be normal for surgical procedure but recommend recheck in 2 days. Monitoring of appetite recommended to ensure patient is receiving medications. As patient is quite nervous, foster care recommended for duration of recovery - to reduce stress and to ensure he is eating and taking medications. (11/9) Per Triage Exam: Patient is a senior dog with a very large scrotal tumor that is ulcerated and bleeding Behavior Observation: (11/29) Per Staff: Laying on bed when handler approached kennel but came to front of kennel and sat for treats and was easily leashed. Walked nicely through building and outside. Immediately urinated and defecated once out of building so most likely housebroken based on this and history recorded on walk sheet. In yard, explored perimeter and then came back to handler and accepted slow pets all over with loose body. Does a slow motion run when excited. Went into office for time outside of kennel. Enjoyed a Busy Bone but no interest in rope toy. After finishing Busy Bone, took a nap on bed. Easily returned to kennel. Behavior seems to have improved greatly. (11/19) Per Vet: Very friendly and easy to handle, tolerated all aspects of exam, solicited attention. Behavior markedly improved compared to time of intake. (11/16) Pet staff: Kennel Presentation: Nervous. Nervous and shaking in kennel on approach. Easy to loop but tense and whale eyed leash. Exited kennel with a little encouragement. Returning to kennel, hesitant to step up but follows handler into kennel. Leash is easily removed although body language is tense throughout interaction. Leash Skills: Pulls Moderately On Leash Handleability: Tense/Allows some handling. Tense throughout entire interaction and flinches at hand movements. Accepts slow pets to rear but walks away from handler after 30 seconds both times handler initiated pets so did not push handling further. Tag: No interest Toys: No interest Color Level: Blue Recommendations: TTA (11/13) Per vet staff: nervous and quieter but tolerated examination (11/13) Per staff: Very nervous and shaking in kennel. Some whale eyeing when being looped for removal. Tense and body shaking from fear. Able to coax out, although still hesitant to step down from kennel. Pulls moderately on leash. Can be stubborn while walking about direction. Tense and visibly flinches if hand moves near him. Appears uncomfortable. Will tolerate very slow touch. No interest in play or toys (11/9) Per vet staff: Friendly but tense when handled for exam so muzzled (11/9) Per previous owner: chill, relaxed, protective, hangs around family and sits with them 7. Interactions with children: likes the owners kid, does not like other dogs, doesn't mind cats, defensive with strangers, sits with owners daughter every night, knows sit. stay, house trained.
