About Lucky & Lady

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Need guardian angelLady and Lucky need a guardian!  Lucky is a chunky, black-and-white male, about fifteen pounds. He may have some vision problems, but he seems fine. Ladybug is a slight, female calico, about eight pounds. They are both short-hairs, and the ages are estimates. They are indoors-only and litter box trained. They should stay together.  Lucky and Lady have lived with other cats before. I don't know how they would be around dogs. They have never encountered small children, and would surely hide from them. They are not terribly social with humans in general, but as long as they have their own den to retreat to, they can definitely learn to live with an experienced cat person.  Their story.  Lucky and Lady are neutered and spayed, indoors-only cats who originated in a horde and lack social skills. Their first owner never socialized them, but fed them and let them live in her house. When she passed away, Lady and Lucky found their way to my neighbor. They lived with her for some years until she was no longer able to care for herself or the cats. She has moved out to be with relatives, and now Lady and Lucky need a new guardian.  Their needs.  Lucky and Lady need mercy and some living space. These kitties need someone to feed and protect them, to allow them to establish a little den in a secure part of the house, and to protect them from going to the shelter. They take refuge with one another, so they should stay together.  They will probably never be lap cats. You will probably never get to pick them up. They are very shy, but not entirely unsocial once they get to know you. Lady talks to me when I come over to feed them. Lucky prefers to recline at a safe distance. They both watch me patiently and are receptive to all topics of conversation. Lucky used to sit near my neighbor on the couch sometimes.  They are not outdoors cats. They do not know how to be barn cats. If they go to the SPCA or Humane Society, they will be put on a track to euthanasia because they will not allow handling.  In the past I have helped my neighbor in taking them to the vet after administering prescription sedatives. That is the most unusual need they have.  Besides that, they are ordinary house cats who love to run around the house late at night, who scratch and play with toys, who get impatient for their dinners, and who will quietly observe your household adventures.  It is possible that a patient, compassionate person could befriend these two. To get anywhere with them will require a lot of work. They need a special person to be their guardian. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Janice (janice.frazier@sbcglobal.net) for more information about this pet. Online Adoption Application › She's a great companion cat for people and other cats!Betty is a great cat, she loves attention and is comfortable with other cats, young or old, but also OK solo. She is healthy (blood work was perfect) and looks just great for a senior cat; you'd never know her age. She is a lovely lilac lynx point Siamese cross Snowshoe (white paws and inverted V on nose). Unlike many Siamese, she isn't chatty so that is nice, but she is outgoing and does like to be with people; so if you are looking for a companion cat she is perfect. Betty is back to us because her original adopter passed away recently after her 3rd bout with cancer. When we first got her back you could tell she was sad about her longtime companion not being with her but she didn't let that stop learning to love the foster home. Please make the holidays special for Betty and give her a forever final home!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Janice (janice.frazier@sbcglobal.net) for more information about this pet. Online Adoption Application › Loving and adorable, but very special needsBriar is outgoing, loving, playful and loves life. He purrs close to non-stop and head butts you for loving. But he had a perianal hernia and GI tract complications since he was rescued as a bottle baby. We are still looking for the ideal home for Briar. He loves all animals (2- and 4-legged) and will become a very adored family member. But because of his issues he does need a special diet and a home that is easily suited to cleaning (non-carpeted or specialized room for him) as he can't always get to the litter tray to poop. If you are looking for the best of the special needs cats, for sure it’s him and he is worth the effort. Note the posting updates are in chronological order to see more on him.   Original Posting as baby: Multiple attempts to help him with vets locally would work for a while, but finally we had to take him to UC Davis for another surgery. This created quite a large vet bill for the group, requires special food, and significant care. Any donation will help significantly, towards his bill, and his on-going expenses. Please help us fund this little guy - - never seen such a trooper in a little kitten, he won’t give up; help us make sure we don’t have to! THANKS for helping!   UPDATE Nov 5 2015: Working with the vets, we have come up with a mix of canned and kibble foods to help Briar's poop firm up some so he makes the litter tray more and has gained some weight in the last months. He had stalled at about 5 lbs, but with the mix of canned and kibble we've got him up to 6 lbs. Also we had a scare when he plugged up with a hairball in rectum - with work we got it out. But now he gets hairball treatment gel with every meal till shedding season is over, and we have trimmed his beautiful tail (sadly) so he will not ingest the long 4' tail hairs. Still he's a wonderful, happy, beautiful cat!   UPDATE Dec 14, 2015: He is gaining weight and is now up to 4 lbs at 6 months of age, yeah!   Update Jan 15, 2016: At Vet check he was 4.8 lbs (yeah!) and is now eating Royal Canin Mom and Babycat kibble, as well as canned IAMS intestinal plus food, both easy to digest, so his poop is a bit more consistent in timing and firmness.   Update March 6, 2016: After trying baby kibble with Briar and finding it was a very fine balance to keep him from getting too firm of poop, we have started him on Metamucil in his canned food at the recommendation of UC Davis. So far we find that is nicely helping to manage the really loose stool.   Update Sept 20, 2016: Briar is much better on Metamucil and gained some weight as he's able to not have the food just run through him! Though he still doesn't always make it to the litter tray it’s much firmer poop and easy to clean up. He's just a total love bug and he's worth the work!   Update August 2017: We have him on a diet of canned food mixed with Metamucil and it does a relatively good job of firming up his stool but sometimes he still can't make the litter box, so he does have his own linoleum-floored room. And he does get out to hang out in the house when we can watch him to clean up after him if needed. We did have a scare earlier this month when he had a bout of colitis but the Vet said that can hit any cat and figured it was an isolated instance and so far she is right!   Update January 2019: It’s a new year and Briar is already 4.5 yrs old, wow time flies! We have worked out a specific food for him mixed with Metamucil and he is doing much better about getting to the litter box now. Still sometimes he has accidents but we are pleased that it is somewhat better and if you are looking to help support him the food is Fancy feast (Gravy Lovers chicken feast in grilled chicken flavor gravy).   Update January 2020: Briar continues to do well and he is just such a great cat and, besides cleaning up if he has an accident, his food mixture is very easy to do. And we also give him a Vitamin B12 shot weekly to help with absorption of nutrients; he’s very good about it. And like any long-hair cat, he gets Petromalt during shedding seasons - which he loves.Update November 2020: Covid hasn't effected this sweetie!!!!! Briar is doing really well.  We have his diarrhea even more firmed up, fine tuning the mixture of canned with metamucil, but still he can't control always making it to the litter tray, so he does have a room all his own, and we take that little extra effort to prep his meals. He also gets Vitamin B injections to insure proper levels of Vitamin B, since with diarrhea that is always a concern of lack of that nutrient.  You can tell he is doing well though, such a handsome boy and very shiny, thick, healthy coat and right body index.  Briar's just such a loving cat it's quite amazing the great guy he is, so rewarding to care for him, he flips on his side and back when he sees you like heh aren't I handsome!  He'd be perfect in a non-carpeted home with easy to clean floors.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Wants humans to hang withGood Kitty is a male domestic medium hair. Young adult.  He is such a cutie and has potential to be a good indoor kitty. He walked straight into my home after couple of months of me feeding him. He’s ready to be adopted by hoomans, although he needs someone who is patient and loving to help him adjust. He deserves a chance to be in a good home.  He use to be scared of humans, but now he craves human affection. After living outside for so long I believe he wants to be loved and spoiled. He lets me pet him and he likes face rubs. He also lets me comb him and he’s likes to walk around and explore rather than hide in corners.  He is a semi feral cat who just recently got tnr 07/17/19. Updated with fvrcp vaccination, rabies, flea treatment, deworming, and neutered.  Attention cat lovers: Need someone who is experienced with semi feral cats because it will take awhile for them to slowly adjust and bond with their new owner. Not sure but I think he was abandon (seen him around for almost a year) but he is nice and not really feral.   Adopting a semi feral isn’t an easy task, but will be worth it in the end. Please give him a chance~ If you would like to meet this good kitty, please contact youknowitstrieu@gmail.com THIS animal listing is a COURTESY LISTING - not a 13th St Cat Rescue animal. Online Adoption Application › He's a purr-monster!Hummer enjoys being petted and held and is just waiting for a loving real home, but he is very opinonated.   He is extremely handsome with his super soft gray medium length coat, fluffy tail, white tuxedo, and green eyes.  With his usually mellow disposition and large size,  and he is a very quiet cat, doesn't meow a lot, he might be a bit Maine Coon.  He will be good in a quiet home. We have learned he can get overstimulated unexpectedly and we wouldn't suggest him with children.  And think he might like a safe indoor/outdoor setting.   He is fine with other cats. This poor guy was abandoned in a box at the Humane Society by his first home, and then HSSV transferred him to the San Jose Animal Care Center.  SJACS asked us to rescue him so he'd have a great forever home.    Shows you how trusting he is, he didn't even try to get out of the box they left him in!   But as we said he can be opinonated. Since we don't know his name, but we think he's a hum-dinger of a cat, and happy, we named him Hummer!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. All she wants is a quiet, peaceful home where she can cuddle up to you and sleep. She loves attention but she needs to be the one to initiate it. She’s a chubby kitty but doesn’t realize it. She likes to crawl on you and lay WHEREVER she’s comfortable sitting. She talks to you when you pet her and when she wants your attention. She loves treats and to explore  when it’s quiet. Once she’s comfortable, she’s like one of the family. She’s only interacted with our other cat and he was mean for a very long time. She was very scared and we never introduced her to another animal. She does not like to be picked up but she will lay on you when she wants to be loved (which is often). She is an indoor only kitty and has excellent litter box habits. She will make a great addition to a home wanting an instant love-bug, who is very active; she doesn't really want to chill with you, so not what one calls a lap cat though she does love people. She runs right up to you for attention. As mentioned she is very active and playful, and really likes to play with all kinds of toys, of course, so she definitely will need a feline playmate. She has been in with a 2 year old cat and they do fine. She loves her cat tree and is particularly fond of the circle shelf she has on it, but gets right up when she sees you. Mary eats only canned food because kibbles we have tried seem to be hard on her digestive tract; in our experience, cats usually can outgrow this but it takes a while.   She was part of a trio and though named after a music trio they are not particularly vocal, but we had to pull her out because of the GI tract differences.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › adopt with smokeySmokey and Opal are very active siblings who both seek out interaction with their foster. Smokey taps his foster on the leg and lets out a little whimper for “let’s play”; Opal rises from her carpet tree and a little more emphatically vocalizes a series of squeaks that do not let up until she has your attention. Typically, both enjoy time resting, but they also have very physical times of day in the morning and early evening chasing the Go Cat Feather and each other around the room. Even with their specific health issues with a little lack of coordination and hind quarter weakness, they both go crazy and love to run, jump, and crash into the nylon cubes and tunnels in pursuit of the elusive feather-sometimes seemingly trying to out chase or jump or out land each other on the nylon pillows. Smokey and Opal start the day with pets and snuggling with their foster, before jumping down and looking for action. *** need to be adopted as a pair*** both kittens' twitch' esp when asleep . They were seen be a neurologist and this is her report: from sage neurology     there is no indication that they do not have a good quality of life at this time and also that there is no evidence of any condition that would be spread to other animals in a household.  I am sorry that I cannot provide more definitive predictions with respect to longevity, but I hope that this helps. Update smokey and opal are being returned to us because the resident cat is not happy having them around!. Their adopter has worked on this issue for a year  with things only getting worse between them. They had a recent vet visit or their 1 year old birthday and that vet gave the same interpretaion of their conditionhere is her bio :The Notorious RBG, (opal) is so named because she is tiny but fierce. Smaller than her brother (Smokey) she will give chase in the blink of an eye and is not afraid to tumble around with him. She is equal parts adorable and playful (no feather or tennis ball stands a chance when she’s around).
