About Popeye

The name Popeye likely puts in mind large strong muscles, and while it does describe this big strong guy, Popeye is sweet as honey and has a heart of gold! Popeye has proved to be a delightful house guest and he is a smart cookie who knows Sit, Leave It, Off, Stay, Down, and Shake. He is completely housetrained and gets along wonderfully with humans of all ages. Popeye is a handsome, goofy, young, friendly, happy and playful guy with a lot of love to give. Popeye is a romantic guy, ready for long walks on the beach followed by a quiet snuggle session. Popeye is great on a leash and has an easy-going demeanor. He is also an athletic boy and would make a great hiking and running partner. He currently hikes regularly with our volunteers and is great at keeping pace! Popeye is ready for someone to take him home and love him forever. In the meantime, this 70-pound lover will continue to charm his way into our staff members’ hearts! If you'd like to meet Popeye, please copy & paste the following URL into your browser: http://www.thebarkinglotrescue.com/adoption-application. DOB: November 2012Weight: 28 lbsDisposition: Smart, Friendly, Low energyAldrin is the canine embodiment of beauty and brains. This handsome fella is not only quite the looker, but he already has his basic commands down pat! We originally rescued Aldrin and his astronaut friends from San Bernardino in September 2013. He was adopted shortly after, but returned to us many years later. Aldrin is great with other dogs, and is currently in a very large play group with other small/medium dogs ranging from 6-46 pounds. He is housebroken and knows sit and shake on command. Aldrin has a tendency to nip at hands if he feels uncomfortable in a situation, so for this reason, he is not suited for a home with small children. Aldrin is an intelligent, stately, calm, easygoing, and sweet boy who enjoys human attention. Don't be surprised if he leans up against you asking for more petting and belly rubs! Aldrin LOVES hanging out in the yard and while he needs to be an indoor pet, we will only entertain families with a yard for this reason. He will do best with an individual or couple of an assertive nature or with experience to correct any potential behavior related to nipping. If you'd like to meet Aldrin, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. It’s easy to love young dogs, but senior dogs need homes too! Older dogs like Captain Crunch here have the toughest time of all in the shelter system because he is constantly being overlooked by potential families. He may be slow and scarred, but he is still sweet as can be and more than capable of being a loving companion. Captain Crunch enjoys going on walks, exploring sights and sounds, chewing on a few blades of grass, and getting some chin scratches in between. While Captain Crunch is a favorite among our volunteer walkers, it’s not the same as being able to sleep on a dog bed inside a warm home to call his own. He is 11 years young (estimated DOB January 2009), and he has been at The Barking Lot for over a year now. Crunchy, as he is affectionately dubbed, is also great with other dogs. He currently plays in a group with all ''littles'', and it's the cutest thing. Many of his little buddies are puppies and they help keep him young. Crunchy has bad arthritis and he is on a special diet. Do you have room in your home and heart for Captain Crunch? If so, please submit an application on our website today - he is waiting for you!If you’d like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Dally is a shy Tiger Jindo mix with a sad beginning. He was found on the streets of Apple Valley with his mom, dad Darry, and 3 siblings, including Ponyboy and Sodapop. They were all wary of humans and appeared to have limited familiarity with them. The family was taken in to the local shelter, and the mom and smallest sibling were adopted quickly. The other 4 made it to TBL where they received socialization while waiting their forever homes. Dally was the shyest of the bunch, slowest to trust, and also the most unique looking. He has a handsome caramel swirl coat and beautiful, soulful green-brown eyes. Dally will need a patient and loving family to help him warm up to the world and come out of his fear-hardened shell. He will be worth the time and effort though, as he is quite the obedient, loving, and sweet and easygoing pup with his foster mom of 6+ years. Dally would do best in a home with another dog to show him the ropes and prove to him that his humans can be trusted. Dally is a great medium size of about 30 pounds, and he is about 7 and a half years old as of spring 2020. We would love to see this Classic Barker go to a well-deserved forever home! Meet Frontier! He is a 2-year-old Schnauzer/terrier mix. He is currently in foster and is loving life. Here is a summary from his foster mom: ''Frontier is affectionate, cuddly, and incredibly loving! He is very high energy. He will require training for leash reactivity as he does pull and bark and gets dog-obsessive when he sees them on walks. But he's super smart, so with some structure he should be fine :) He can be dominant and intrusive with other dogs, though he did live with other dogs before, and he is such an angel indoors. He is very attached to his people. Ideally I can see him in a house with kids, a backyard to get his energy out throughout the day, and people that will be able to exercise him. His positive attributes like cuddliness and calmness inside are bonus points after you can handle the hard stuff. He is not leash trained and doesn’t know most basic commands. But the good news is, he is housebroken and successfully learned how to sit within a few days! He wants to be a sidekick and be everywhere you are.'' Frontier is a nice compact size. Though he's currently 23 pounds, his foster family is working on getting him closer to 28 for his ideal weight. With some basic training, Frontier is primed to be some lucky family's BFF for life!To initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below.
