Personality: Angelo is big, lovable guy with a big personality! He's 80lbs of fun and loves to run and play. He's working on his canine manners and would love a big dog experienced home where he can continue to learn and become the best dog he can be. Angelo is energetic and enjoys playing with other social dogs, exploring in the big outdoors, and jogging with his people to keep in shape. One could really say that Angelo has it all.....the striking good looks, lovable personality, and the brains to go with it. A training scholarship has been funded by The Pedigree Foundation HistoryHistory: Angelo came to us from another shelter.Dog/Cat skills: Angelo has been in playgroup and has met many different dogs. He has displayed forward greetings and showed interest in running around in play. He can become too rowdy for some dogs, and does best with social, calm dogs. Angelo has shown high prey drive with cats, and can be hyper focused and too rowdy for small dogs.Leash Skills: Angelo is a large and strong dog who walks well with appropriate walking equipment, like a martingale collar and no pull, front clip harness. Medical: This dog has scarring of his pinnae (ear flaps)that appear consistent with a previous episode of cutaneous vasculitis. Vasculitis is an immune-mediated inflammation of the blood vessel wall that causes decreased blood flow to small patches of skin, resulting in ulceration, crusting, or hair loss at these sites. Currently, Angelo is doing well and not on any medications for this condition. "Ready to meet Angelo? Personality: Archie is a very sweet and calm boy who loves ear scratches and belly rubs. He is very polite and a great companion. Archie pretty well house-trained but will need to be let out every 2-3 hours. He is great with new people and will warm up to them almost immediately.History: Archie is great with children as well as other animals. He has been living with a child, a teenager, two adults, and another small dog. He is very patient with kids especially younger ones. Although he isn't one to play, he is good with other dogs.Dog/ Cat Skills: Archie is pretty good around other dogs. When meeting new dogs he is very calm. While he has been living with another small dog he has mostly kept to himself. He has seen some garden cats and other small animals around our neighborhood and has barely reacted. He is mostly pretty calm around other animals.Leash Skills: He walks very well on a leash and almost never pulls. He enjoys going on shorter walks as he gets tired pretty easily.Medical: Archie has a significant heart murmur and cardiac enlargement. he has been to a veterinary cardiologist and diagnosed with degenerative mitral valve disease which is a common and age-related disease. His risk of developing congestive heart failure is low to moderate. We have placed him on a cardiac medication designed to improve heart function. The adopting family is strongly advised to have him rechecked every 6 months by a veterinary cardiologist. A monitoring and treatment plan is likely to significantly improve his quality of life and possibly his life-span.Archie has dental disease. This is very common in older dogs and Archie had a dental cleaning while in our care. Any unhealthy teeth were removed. Dental care is an on-going process that will need to be addressed for the remainder of his life. We also noted that Archie has a stiff gait in his rear legs. X-rays show that in the past, he had a fracture of his right hip that has since healed. At this time, he does not appear acutely painful in this leg and we are not recommending treatment at this time. The adopting family is encouraged to discuss this condition with their family veterinarian or a veterinary surgeon to determine the best course of treatment to keep him comfortable.Ready to meet Archie? Personality: Bailey is a sweet girl who is still getting used to being around and interacting with people instead of being scared of their presence. She has made a great progress since she arrived at HSSV and will approach to take treats and hang out near people she knows. Bailey is looking for a special home that can meet her needs. She will need a low key adult household with experience in herding breeds and their behaviors, house with an access to a secured backyard where she can start to gain confidence and learn how to walk on leash, home with a confident canine role model that she can bond with and learn the ropes. Bailey is very willing to learn and in a home that can be patient with her she will thrive and learn how to be a confident and outgoing girl. A training scholarship has been funded by The Pedigree Foundation.History: Bailey came to us from another shelter. When she arrived she was very under-socialized with people but over time, with work and patience of our staff and volunteers, she is flourishing and she has a lot of potential in the right environment.Dog Skills: Bailey enjoys being around dogs and is most relaxed when around her canine friends. She has mainly been around dogs that are her size and smaller. It is required that Bailey goes home with a canine role model to help her build confidence and help her learn how to be a dog.Cat Skills: We don't have history on how Bailey does around cats but it is always best to do a slow introduction with any animal that she might meet.Leash Skills: Bailey does not walk on leash. She will need help to learn to be comfortable with walking on leash using positive reinforcement.Medical: Periodontal disease. This patient has been diagnosed with periodontal disease (also known as gum disease or dental disease). This disease is extremely common in dogs and cats. This patient had a dental cleaning recently at HSSV.Teeth that were determined to be unhealthy were removed. Dental care is an on-going process that will need to be addressed for the life of this patient. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 26.8 Age: 4yrs 0mths 3wks show less

Personality: Banjo is a timid, quirky boy that needs some time to settle in when he's around new people and places. Once he is comfortable, he will happily follow you around and chat about the treats he would love for you to give him. When transitioning, Banjo does best with space and time to adjust before being handled. If uncomfortable, he will give clear warning signs that he wants to move away. In a quiet, experienced home with time to adjust and a confident dog role model, Banjo will seek out his people and show his playful, silly self. He would do best in an adult household with experience helping shy dogs gain confidence. History: Banjo came to us from another shelter. Dog/Cat skills: Banjo does well with other small, calm dogs and can get overwhelmed around forward and rowdy dogs. In the other shelter Banjo was co-housed with a small dog and they did well together. Banjo will likely benefit from having a confident, calm canine role model in the home. We have no history on how he is around cats. Leash skills: Banjo needs to learn how to walk on leash. He can be tentative or yelp if there is a leash tension and the collar tightens around his neck. He will benefit from having access to an enclosed yard for leash and potty training. Ready to meet Banjo? Personality: Camille is a playful, energetic, sweet dog but does need guidance and encouragement when meeting new people. While often she can be jumpy and playful, she can also be timid at first with unfamiliar faces and places. Camille is recommended to go to a low-key, experienced, adult home environment that can give her time to adjust and build up her confidence. Once she is comfortable with people, she is wiggly, playful, and very affectionate. She is still learning manners and can become mouthy in play with people. Camille enjoys long runs and play dates with other dogs to help burn her energy. Camille has a training scholarship sponsored by the Pedigree Foundation. History: Camille has shown to do best in low-traffic neighborhoods and calm, adult households where she can settle into new environments slowly. Dog Skills: Participates in play group at HSSV regularly. Camille enjoys playing chase and wrestle with other polite, social dogs. She can be initially overwhelmed with more forward or rowdy play, but she has warmed up quickly and loves to play fast and rough with any dog she can. She may benefit from a playful, confident canine in the home to help burn energy and show her the ropes. Cats Skills: Camille has shown hyper-focus and willingness to chase cats when she sees them. Leash Skills: Camille will pull on leash and may grab at the leash in excitement. Has walked well on a front clip harness and chain leash. Ready to meet Camille? Personality: Canela is a sweet, low-key pitty girl. She has been through a lot recently (she was hit by a car that resulted in removing one of her eyes and losing most of the eyesight in the other). But she isn't letting that get her down. Canela happily goes on walks with a handler and other dogs. She enjoys sniffing around and learning how to live her best life even without vision. Each new environment that Canela enters she needs a little time to map out and quickly she is comfortable to roam around without issues.History: Canela came to us from another shelter after she was hit by a car. Dog/Cat skills: Canela has a history of having lived with other dogs. Now that she is learning to navigate her new world by just sounds and smells she can be little tentative around forward dogs at fisrt but she warms up quick and will peacefully co-exist in the same space with other calm and polite dogs. Once settled, she will happily play and follow them around... as best she can. She may benefit from a confident canine role model in the home. We don't have a history on Canela around cats.Leash skills: Canela walks nicely on leash and enjoys slow walks where she can sniff her surroundings. Medical: Blindness. Canela presented with trauma to her head, especially on the left side, and her left eye had to be removed. She also has significant vision impairment and appears to be blind in her right eye. It is unknown if she was born this way or acquired as part of her head trauma. Blind dogs can do very well in a stable environment and with a committed owner. Canela currently is being treated for an ear infection in her RIGHT ear caused by a yeast organism called malassezia. We have applied a medication into each ear to treat this infection. The medication will remain in the ears for 14 days and then should be followed by a recheck with your veterinarian. Ear infections are common in dogs and might require regular maintenance.Come to our Milpitas Animal Community Center (ACC) between 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. any day of the week and meet Canela! Personality: Chispa is a shy yet excitable girl who will solicit attention with people she knows well. She can be tentative meeting new people but is slowly increasing her confidence with the help of tasty treats and familiar people present. Chispa prefers to engage interactions on her own terms and will show clear signs when she is uncomfortable and needs space. She is growing her confidence by the day, and when she is ready, she is a hyper, spunky little girl who loves to run zoomies, and play with toys in the home. She also likes to sleep under the covers and follow her person around. Chispa would benefit from a calm, shy dog experienced home who can help build her confidence further. History: Chispa came to us from a shelter in the Central Valley. She is currently living in an adult only, low key household with a confident small dog that has been helping her come out of her shell. Dog/Cat Skills: Chispa has shared a foster home with a small, low energy male dog. While she can be tentative and fearful with forward behavior, she has warmed up to polite, calm canines. Chispa will now follow the resident dog around constantly and even solicits play. Her confidence is helped greatly by being around more confident dogs and is recommended to go home with a calm, social dog who can show her the ropes. Chispa has no history with cats. Leash skills: Chispa initially did not walk on leash but is now doing well walking loosely on leash. She may need coaxing at time and can be tentative with environmental noises. Medical: Chispa arrived at HSSV with pelvic fractures. She has spent time in foster healing and improving daily. She is using the limb very well and our hope is that she will continue to improve as the pelvic fractures enter the final healing stages. She has no exercise restrictions. Ready to meet Chispa?
