A lot of people associate the name Barney with a jovial and optimistic purple dinosaur, and our Barney is quite as friendly and fun-loving. In fact, the song “I love you, you love me, we're a happy family with a great big hug and a kiss from me to you, won't you say you love me too?” would be the absolute perfect theme song for our happy-go-lucky boy. Barney is a sweet 8-year old guy who loves everyone and everything, and his tail is always going nonstop. It’s not every day that a sergeant at the Lancaster Animal Shelter personally asks for help to network and save the life of a pooch, but that’s exactly what happened in the case of Barney because they knew he was a special guy. He passed his temperament assessment with flying colors, and scored a high A which is not an easy everyday occurrence. He is a muscular dude with a gorgeous and easy-to-care-for blue coat. Barney gets along great with other dogs in his play group. He has spent the last 7 years in a home where he lived in harmony with another cat and a chicken too!If you'd like to meet Barney, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Meet Brodie, who came to us all the way from Cambodia with the help of our rescue partner Four Paws International. He spent the last few weeks in a foster home and he is ready to find his furever home! We'll let his foster mom tell you more about this handsome boy:''Brodie is a gentle, loving soul. Once he warms up to you, he will politely demand pets/head scratches, walks and treats by walking up to you and putting his chin on you. He is the most cat like dog I have seen. He enjoys affection, but on his terms and will happily sit by the window on his own, keeping an watchful eye. I swear he even purrs like a cat when he's in head/neck scratch heaven and sits like a cat with his paws underneath him. He is also very quiet and rarely barks. He is fully crate trained and can already sit, wait, shake, other paw. He can be nervous around new people and places and can be reactive towards larger unfamiliar male dogs. This and the fact that he knows how to jump/climb very high fences, he should not be off-leash outside the home. However I think all of these things can be overcome with training (he has already shown improvement on reactiveness and has shown his playful side towards familiar dogs). He enjoys long walks which helps with his nervousness and has quickly learned how to walk on a leash. I think he would be ok with smaller/similar size female dogs in the household, but would be content alone as well. He does not resource guard towards humans, but may with other dogs. He should also be ok with kids teenage or older. He has also recently discovered the joys of tennis balls (especially small ones) and loves chasing after them mixed in with his zoomies. Brodie will do well with someone that has a yard with tall fences, loves the outdoors and doesn't have male/larger dogs.''So there you have it! Sweet, intelligent, independent, athletic, and loving Brodie is about a year and a half old. He is a nice compact size of around 35 pounds. DOB: February 2020Weight: 28 lbsDisposition: Playful, Smart, EnergeticDaisy was rescued from the dog meat trade in Cambodia by our partner rescue, Four Paws International, in August 2020. She had the unfortunate circumstance of being poached from the street while out exploring and ended up in the hands of a dog meat trader. Imagine being a 5 month old puppy who gets stolen and thrown into a cage with 12 other dogs. Fortunately, Four Paws intervened by shutting down the slaughterhouse and Daisy and some of her lucky friends were rescued and able to live another day with the need to regain trust in humans. Daisy loves playing with other dogs and is somewhat hesitant in meeting new people, but once you're within her inner circle, she believes you to have hung the moon and trusts you implicitly. She would love an active life where she gets to go hiking, beaching and adventuring. Since Daisy is one smart cookie, she'd also appreciate moving through the ranks of obedience training and even agility. Daisy would choose as her person(s) someone who is patient, active, assertive and willing to help her negotiate her initial hesitations of meeting new people and building her confidence over the long haul. When nervous, she will over compensate with barking at the thing that is making her nervous. Comments from one of Daisy's TBL handlers, ''Daisy enjoys walks and likes sitting in the grass and getting petted and rolling around to get her belly rubbed. She seems to need a confident leader who won't let her get away with things, but one that is also gentle because she is nervous and lacks confidence with new things and new people. For example, when putting her back, she snapped at the other dogs in the yard. I looked right at her and said firmly ''Daisy - no ma'am, don't you dare!'' and she immediately stopped and moved away from the other dog. Once she develops trust and bonds with a person, she is delightful and listens well but with someone new, she may snap in fear if you go too quickly and will need a gentle, but firm leader. She does really well with the other dogs in her group but vies for attention when a human is present and can get jealous when another dog gets more attention, but you just have to watch and correct her and she will listen. She's very smart!''If you're interested in meeting Daisy, visit our website at www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Dally is a shy Tiger Jindo mix with a sad beginning. He was found on the streets of Apple Valley with his mom, dad Darry, and 3 siblings, including Ponyboy and Sodapop. They were all wary of humans and appeared to have limited familiarity with them. The family was taken in to the local shelter, and the mom and smallest sibling were adopted quickly. The other 4 made it to TBL where they received socialization while waiting their forever homes. Dally was the shyest of the bunch, slowest to trust, and also the most unique looking. He has a handsome caramel swirl coat and beautiful, soulful green-brown eyes. Dally will need a patient and loving family to help him warm up to the world and come out of his fear-hardened shell. He will be worth the time and effort though, as he is quite the obedient, loving, and sweet and easygoing pup with his foster mom of 6+ years. Dally would do best in a home with another dog to show him the ropes and prove to him that his humans can be trusted. Dally is a great medium size of about 30 pounds, and he is about 7 and a half years old as of spring 2020. We would love to see this Classic Barker go to a well-deserved forever home! Meet Frontier! He is a 2-year-old Schnauzer/terrier mix. He's a playful, happy and engaging pup. He loves greeting people and wants to please. Currently he is part of a rambunctious play group of fun-loving dogs who like to chase and play tag. He was previously in a foster home and here's what his foster mom has to say, ''Frontier is affectionate, cuddly, and incredibly loving! He is very high energy. But he's super smart, so with some structure he should be fine :) He has lived with other dogs before, and he is such an angel indoors. He is very responsive to his people. His positive attributes like cuddliness and calmness. He is housebroken, knows how to SIT and will greet any new visitor with bells on. He wants to be a sidekick and be everywhere you are.'' Frontier is a nice compact size of 28 lbs and is a smart guy who learns quickly because he loves to please. We've been working with Frontier on his leash skills as he's a bit excited when he sees approaching dogs so his handler needs the skill to correct his leash excitement and reinforce proper leash protocols.
