About LADY IVY

This 5 y/o, 50 lb, eager-to-please girl - Lady Ivy - has graduated her long-term training education and is ready to go into a foster-to-adopt or forever home! She would do best in a home with older respectful kids and adults that will give her the structure, rules, and boundaries that she needs to succeed. Ivy also needs to be your only pet. Ivy is a dog that likes to hang around her people. While this is a very endearing aspect of her personality, whomever is interested in her must also understand that she cannot be given too much affection as she was previously suffering from anxiety and it could resurface. She isn't a highly energetic dog and does well with short walks, so if you're looking for a dog who is low maintenance, Ivy is a great choice and overall, a well-behaved and wonderful companion! As part of the extensive training she’s been receiving, her foster/adopters will also receive multiple handling lessons to ensure a smooth transition into her new home and so she doesn’t lose any of the amazing on and off-leash skills that she has acquired. Ivy’s trainers will continue to keep in touch with whomever accepts her into their lives so that her transition and life with her new family will be successful. Until then, Ivy will remain with her trainers where they will continue socializing her and maintaining her obedience. Lady Ivy is spayed and microchipped. If you are interested in learning more about this sweet girl, or would like to arrange a meet and greet, please contact AmsterDog at info@amsterdog.org or complete our online application at www.amsterdog.org/application to get the process started. Ware, MA: Meet our newest AmsterDog, BRYSON (fka Tyson)! : a sophisticated 12 year old chap with the cutest ears and deep soulful eyes. This 70 Lb boy is the sweetest, gentlest guy you will ever meet. Like a good bottle of fine wine, he has aged with dignity and grace. His foster mom tells us that he loves belly rubs, long walks and just loves to be near you all the time. Even when his foster’s dog was trying to go after him, he softly pushed him away with his paw, as if to say, “Don’t bother me now, I’m chillin’. “ Bryson is good with dogs, and loves people of all ages. A survivor of a house fire, he not only lost his home but also his human, and AmsterDog was honored to be able to rescue him from the city shelter. But now Bryson needs a home of his own. Bryson‘s ideal home is with someone who is a homebody as he really hates being left alone. He would love a yard and grass under his feet if possible. He does like other dogs and doesn’t mind sharing you with them. But mostly he just wants someone to love and to love him back. Could you be the lucky one who has the pleasure of this gentle soul’s company? Please contact info@amsterdog.org or fill out our application on www.amsterdog.org. Five year old 76 Lb COAST (fka Ghost) is a Big Mush with a Contagious Smile! This big boy is SO ready for his new forever home. When his family became divorced, COAST found himself homeless and was dumped at the shelter! As sad as that is, Coast remains the worlds BEST FETCHER, and will even come drop a tennis ball in your lap so you will throw it for him again. Together you can enjoy the gorgeous weather and go on long walks and have a great time together. Coast is a large guy and will need someone who can handle his strength. But he’s a quick learner and loves to please. He loves people and is extremely affectionate. Children over 13 are OK. He’s never really been socialized with other dogs and can be shy around them. But we know also that he’s such a mush. When his family dropped him off, they told us that he slept in bed with them at night. Coast is now in a very temporary foster home but needs a new home ASAP. Please come help mend Coast’s broken heart and give him a foster or forever home! Coast is neutered, is up-to-date on shots, micro chipped, and comes with his own big bag of tennis balls! 🎾🎾🎾 Please contact AmsterDog at info@AmsterDog.org for more information on how you can foster or adopt COAST! Cranberry Juice goes by Cranberry, Cran or Juice. She's an approx 1-2 yes old pittie mix. Cranberry is a sweet, loving dog, looking for a home of her own! She is shy for the first few minutes of meeting someone new but warms up quickly! She sometimes makes a grumbly sound that's just her saying, "Give me second to decide if you're safe", and if you just squat or sit, toss her a treat and let her approach, within a few minutes she's wiggling and climbing all over you! She quickly made fast friends with every volunteer at the rescue! She is excited when we first see her, but she settles down quickly and knows Sit, Down, Touch a short Stay and Come! We've been doing a little agility too! She can do low jumps, go through tractor tires and jump up on raised platforms! She has no idea how to play ball or other fetch games! She hops into a car, is fine with a harness seat belt and spends most of the ride lying down. She's an active girl that loves going for walks, and likes to dip her toes in a creek! She has seen a variety of people and dogs on her walks. She was initially excited to see other dogs, pulled a little, but she learned that we just look and keep walking. She does get very excited about squirrels but you can get her to refocus for a cookie! She has lived with other dogs and would probably do well with a young, playful dog. show less

Gus is a very special boy with a lot of love to give. He thrives in a household with a strong owner who can spend quality time with him. Gus loves to be with his people, paying no mind to anything else in the room. He wants to sleep next to you, sit with you on the couch and to be your car buddy. He quickly found his place within the 4 dog pack at his foster home, but the people in his life are who he really bonds with. Nothing makes him more content than to be by your side, so Gus was never observed trying to run away or be by himself. Gus needs an owner who can be a solid behavioral guide for him. He tunes into what you're feeling in any given moment, so being a calm, reliable source of emotional stability gives Gus the chance to be his best. Low and slow is the way Gus goes - introduce new people, routines and habits to Gus gradually and he will adapt with flying colors. Gus responds well to structure - designated meal times, positive reinforcement with treats, clear verbal communication, etc... Gus knows how to be polite in a home. Aside from not being good with cats, he knows not to put his feet on people. He knows how to wait until he's given permission to walk though doorways and to wait for his food quietly as you're preparing it for him. Food is the most effective reward for Gus - he loves his treats! And he takes them so gently. He is as quiet as he is sweet - the only time he whines is when he wants to be with you but is either crated or blocked by a door or gate. The one time he was observed trying to bark, no noise came out! Gus is the "gentle giant" colloquialism come to life. He loves to love and be loved! “ Location: Southbury CT (New Haven area) 4 yrs show less

Prince Seeking His Castle NE Philly, Mayfair - 9 year old, 60 Lb pittie mix: Hi, Peeps! It's Prince saying “Hi” in my search for my forever home. The last few months have been full of transitions for me and my foster mama was wonderfully patient. After learning she was safe, I started soliciting the royal pets, then offering the princely paw then two. Then I tucked my head into her legs. It’s the ultimate gesture from a Prince – one of affection, trust – it's my thing! With time, I also learned I like having my neck softly scratched, my face/ears massaged, and most recently, my princely bum scratched and tummy rubs! I’m a 9 year old 60 Lb. smart pup who loves to play and show off my princely manners: sit, down, paw, shake, touch, come, wait, leave it, drop. I like to play fetch, tug of war, and I love squeaky toys. My energy level is medium and while I'm not a runner or hiker, I like my walks especially in the park where I wave the royal paw, as I pass strangers on the street with grace. Slow introductions to new people are needed, having to meet them a few times. It is a Prince’s job to protect his subjects after all. My ideal family is dog savvy/experienced, both or one working from home/retired, no children, understanding my decree to do things at my own pace, make the first moves and seeking more. I am a sensitive soul at heart and need slow introductions, but I promise the wait is worth it! My foster mom says the best things in life and those of most value require effort, and I prove this to her day after day by tucking my head between her legs, then doing a courtly jig and smile. To meet royalty, contact info@amsterdog.org today! And thanks for caring about a dog in need♥️ show less

TONY WANTS TO SPRING INTO A NEW HOME! Ocean County, NJ - At the shelter in New York City where 2 year old 70 lb Tony, fka Leonidas, arrived after being found tied to a pole on the side of the street, the volunteers said, "Tony, after taking a long time to warm up to you has some basic impulse control issues such as jumping. He also does not like being tied up, and can become defensive, which is understandable based on how he was found. Once he knows you, he warms up to you and it can be seen how much he loves people deep down. A quiet home, with minimal interaction with new people where he will have the space and time to do this would be ideal for him. Once he gets to know his people, he will be a loyal friend.” Based on what we've learned about him, we suspect he's been mistreated in the past and, understandably, it takes him some time to warm up to his person (or people) and begin to trust them. With his current foster family, he's really begun to relax in their care. He has made it obvious that he absolutely adores any large dogs being around him and quickly learns from the dogs around him. "Tony is very sweet," they say. "Tony is a happy and loving soul, just scared that someone is going to hurt him which is completely normal. Although he's nervous and confused, he's feeling more confident every day. He has an amazing sense of character, loves to explore and learn. He's come a long way since he first arrived and I believe in him. He learns at an incredible speed and clearly wants to please his people." His foster mom also reports that Tony loves his crate, is well-mannered and perfectly crate trained. Tony does absolutely adore other dogs. He can get a little overzealous being the puppy that he is and annoy some older dogs, but he would benefit greatly from a home with another dog. He knows some basic commands such as sit and wait, but can be snappy with treats if they are not given very slowly and deliberately. He pulls a little on the leash, but is non-reactive (indifferent) to other dogs and people that he passes by - he looks to his trusted person for reassurance and guidance. Since loud noises and sudden movements make Tony nervous, especially if he is in his crate, and knowing he is very protective of "his person", he will be best set up to succeed in an experienced, adult-only home. Tony’s foster family has noticed that he has a high prey drive and could a be a danger to small pets in a home and it would be advised that he go to a home that is adult and large dog only. "Tony's definitely been hurt to the soul," says his foster mom. "He bonds so strongly once he trusts you that I cannot even begin to comprehend how he must have felt when his first owner abandoned him. Now, he's just waiting for that family, that second chance, that can give him a permanent home and love him forever!" If Tony's story is one that you can relate to and you feel you are the special, patient, understanding person (or people) that he needs, please contact AmsterDog at info@amsterdog.org or complete our application at www.amsterdog.org/application to get the process started. Tony is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. Thank you for reading and caring about a pet in need! show less
