Bernie (short for Bernadette) She's 2 years old, spayed female.  Fully vetted.  She's a wonderful girl who has stolen my heart. She is shy of people, a bit afraid of big dogs, and very scared of cats. 🤣 She is great with smaller dogs.  She was surrendered to me by her former owners and now I'm looking for her forever home.  Her only flaw is that she's a sloppy drunk. 💧💦💧 When she drinks from the water bowl she drips and drools all over. Be prepared to dry the floor a lot.  She's a gentle giant that thinks she's really the size of a puppy. She's a lean & lanky lovely lady.  Her favorite things are snuggling and playing with her people, wrestling with her bestie, Doris, and running off leash and exploring new fenced in areas. She also loves chew toys and treats.  Like most of her people, Bernie does not like a lot of things vets do (even though she lives with one and goes to the clinic everyday). She needs someone who understands that German shepherds often have big feelings about these things and a vet who will be patient and gentle.  Bernie's best friend is Doris. They get each other. They are the same age and energy level. They are playful and energetic but not hyper. They enjoy a good romp and then are content to watch TV with us.  Bernie is very well house trained. Bernie is a very strong dog and tends to pull hard on a leash if she really wants to go somewhere, so she has a halti that helps make it much better to walk with her. She does not love water, so if you're looking for a dog to join you on the lake, she is not your girl. Believe me, I tried. We went to Lake Michigan and she was NOT going to dip her toes in the water show less

Doris! Available for adoption! Applications are on our website. Www.trackingintheshadows.com.  Doris us about 9lbs.  Estimate 3-4 years at most, maybe 2 Great with cats and dogs. Must have a dog in the home for Doris to play with.  Besties with Bernie, a 90# German shepherd.  Shy of some people but warms up quick Anxious about being picked up, yet clingy and jumps up on my lap.  Very good jumper. Great agility dog. She cries when she's separated from her foster mom, especially if she can see me. But she does settle down.  Goes to work with her foster mom and stays in my office or the kennel. She's quiet in my office.  Her nails were very long and she did great with a nail trim.  She does pretty well on a leash, though gets tangled up at times.  She is VERY curious, even the first night here was exploring everywhere.  She's not housebroken. show less

Hamilton has entered the 10 week training program with the prison in coldwater and won't be back until around the middle over November or later depending on how well he does!     Hamilton has done well with dogs his size but doesn't like to share his toys.  He is a super playful dude who can jump a 4 ft fence. A 6ft fence or a tie out will be a requirement for him.  We are seeking an adopter who can work with the prison to get updates and start training him for his home and your lifestyle. Journey. 3-4 years old. 45lbs.  Wiggle, wiggle is my name, well it’s actually Journey but the lady says I’m so happy that my tail is always wagging. Anywho, I’m really enjoying learning how to be a dog. I’m still not sure how to play with toys, but I’m really good at those sniffs and zoomies. I’ve even mastered a couple of treat puzzles and kongs. In the house I’m very respectful. I don’t have accidents and I’m crate trained. Im great around children and really like when they say hi and give me pets. I’m pretty good about chilling on the couch and staring out the window or grabbing a bone to chew on to kill time while you are busy.  I don’t bark much at all.  Speaking of chilling on the couch, man do I love to cuddle with the human. If I sits, you pets, pretty please. 😀 at night the lady lets me snuggle next to her. She says I have a cute snore but I think she’s crazy.  I could go on and on about how great I am, but let me tell about some of my quirks. First, I’m a little shy around men. I’m already more trusting than I was but I have some baggage, what can I say. I’m not reactive, I just prefer to say hi and take a little time to warm up.  I do need a fenced yard because I was given an F with leash skills. I’m a work in progress!  I’d love it if you had a dog that would like to play with me.  My foster mom loves me a lot and says I deserve the best home! Is that you? Otto - 7 Months. Hi, I’m Otto! I haven’t been in my foster home for very long, but my foster mom says I have great potential. I’m just a puppy so I’m still trying to figure how to be the best dog. I’ve done pretty good with potty training and have only had accidents in the crate. My foster mom has started training me but so far i only sit. I came to the rescue with Demodex mange but I’m recovering well, i look way better than i did on day 1. With that under control, I’ve been neutered. Enough of the technicalities. Let’s talk about people, I love people!! I’m not a shy guy when it comes to people and other dogs. I haven’t met any kitties yet but a positive introduction would be beneficial. SPECIAL NEEDS Poppy is ready for adoption. She is a 5 yr old 7# Chihuahua mix. Poppy was rescued from a hoarding situation. She spent a year in a home learning the routine, but never going outside. Once we took her into the rescue we had her fully vetted including a dental & (along with a martingale collar with leash attached) from that point on Poppy's life changed. She ventured outside for the first time. Poppy requires a home that understands she may never be a dog that seeks out attention. She needs another dog in the home to help her learn the routine and also because she prefers dogs over people. Cats are fine, but she does like to bark at them. ADULT ONLY home and a SECURE FENCED YARD is required. Poppy is crate trained and housebroken. We are now accepting applications on Rocky! He will be at the Waggin' in the Woods event on Sunday 9/24/23 if you'd like to meet him! Rocky is 6# & estimated at 7 yrs old. We are guessing him to be a pomeranian chihuahua mix. We've been calling him Rocket because he reminds us of Rocket the raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy. Rocket is good with dogs, cats, & kids. We recommend kids 7+ due to his size. He's only had 1 potty accident in his foster home. He does fine in a crate but doesn't necessssarily need to be crated; he doesn't get into stuff. Rocket loves to be with his people & furry friends, play with toys, eating treats, & he's excellent at taking naps. He is not suited for apartment life though. He's quite opinionated at times & isn't afraid to tell you how he feels. Meet Rufus! Rufus came to use from Cass County shelter where he was extremely scared and leash reactive. His foster mom has been working really hard with him and now he is a happy guy on leash. He has learned to walk on a leash and loves the company of other dogs. We would love to see him in a home with a dog or three. Rufus needs a home without cats. Rufus needs a fenced in yard. No small kids for Rufus but older kids are fine. Sally the doodle is ready to find her forever home Sally is 4 years old and weighs 50#. We are looking for a special family that will be patient while Sally adjust to her new surroundings. Sally spent almost a full year running as a lost dog before Kira trapped her a few months ago. Potential adopter must have a secure 5' or taller fence. Sally is a flight risk so her safety is our top priority. Sally also loves and needs a dog or dogs in her new home. They will help her learn the routine of your home and provide her comfort. Sally is fearful of humans, but does allow touch when you are at her level. As her foster momma I will help with her transition into a new home along with Kira and our trainer if needed. We want to set Sally up for success in her new home. Patience and positive reinforcement along with letting her settle in at her own pace is necessary. Scruffy’s soulful eyes tell a story of a hard past, but he has a hopeful spirit of better days ahead. He was caught after running free in an Indianapolis neighborhood for 4+ months, visiting with neighbor dogs and eating food that people left out for him. After a few rough days, the shelter sought a foster for him to decompress.  It is clear from his comfort in the home that he was once someone’s pet. He is both potty and crate trained and very food motivated. However, he is fearful of people that try to get too close or touch him.  He tolerates his face touched and allows an occasional nose boop, but all other touch is on his terms. Many a nights I wake to find him curled up in the crook of my legs. He needs a home that will accept that he may never be a lap dog, but can still be a great companion.  Scruffy is a #20 terrier mix that is roughly 2-3 years old. He is a playful guy. There isn’t a toy he doesn’t want to drag out if the bin and scatter around the house, or a bone he doesn’t want to try out. He loves being with dogs about his size- both to rumble and cuddle. He walks great on a leash and moves pretty darn fast for a guy with short legs.  Although he hasn’t been cat tested, he isn’t bothered at all by the neighborhood cats that jump into the backyard. A secured fence is a must for Scruffy. show less
