About BETTY

BETTY (named in honour of HRH Queen Elizabeth II) is a CHIHUAHUA being fostered in KINGSTON, Ontario (previously fostered at Coconut Hound Haven in Luperon in the Dominican Republic). Her short-haired coat is BLACK & TAN.

BETTY was brought by her owner for treatment as she was not eating. She quickly recovered owner never returned for her. BETTY is house-trained and we are working with walking her on leash. BETTY is still quite shy with new people so her new owner will need to have some patience while she adapts to her new surroundings.

BETTY is approximately 4.5 years old (we have given her the honorary birthday of March 17, 2018) and she weighs approximately 9 pounds. BETTY is up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed. She is microchipped and registered.

BETTY is available for adoption in Canada .  If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right pup for you? CLICK on my link to put in your adoption request.

If you choose to apply to adopt a Coconut Hound, please understand that because of the volume of animals we care for our application approval process takes approximately one week. Please ensure your three (3) email referrals know you are applying as well as your landlord (if applicable) to avoid delays (and to have those references check their Junk mail/SPAM folders). We do appreciate how hard it is to wait and how exciting the process is for you. Our volunteers are very busy caring for a high volume of animals and do not get a lot of chances to take photos and be at computers for updates. Thank you for understanding and for your continued support of DCDR!

HI THERE - I am BINGO and I have GREAT NEWS!!!  I am being fostered In Hamilton, ON (formerly fostered at Coconut Hound Have Las Terrenas in DR).  Oh silly me,  I forgot to mention the most important part,  I AM AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION.  My short-haired coat is Creamy Blonde with a Grey/Black snout. BINGO'S foster mom says he has been the cuddliest (temporary) addition to their family. He is such a silly boy with so much love to give. Bingo has come a long way since arriving in Canada, he has settled into his routine really well. He has no issues taking his medication(with food), loves his kong and stuffed toys, knows his basic commands but will need further training to perfect his manners, and does very well on walks. He plays well with his foster brother (German Sheperd) but he does prefer dogs closer to his size/smaller for play. Bingo would do best in a home without young children as he does get startled unexpected noises/movements. If you are looking for a dog that will snuggle up with you on the couch and give you endless kissess and cuddles. Then Bingo is the dog for you !!!  BINGO and his two siblings were rescued when a friend of the Haven alerted us to a trio of very little puppies that had been abandoned on the beach and were living in a trash pile. We were able to find them and discovered they were not only skinny, covered in fleas and in poor health, but one of them (now named BINGO) had a nasty injury on his shoulder. We brought them home to the haven to help them heal and recover. Sadly the one little sister passed away. BINGO, the brother with a shoulder injury, is now fully healed and getting bigger every day just like his surviving brother (Bongo).  BINGO is just over 1 years old, given the honorary birthday of May 13, 2021, and weighs approximately 28 pounds. BINGO is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered and ready to find his forever home. He is microchipped and registered. BINGO is available for adoption in Canada. If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right pup for you! BRITTNEY is a young Coconut Hound being fostered in TORONTO, ON (formerly fostered at Coconut Hound Haven Sanctuary in Luperon in the Dominican Republic). Her short-haired coat is an amazingly, SHINY DARK BROWN (but shows as Black in pictures) with a lovely WHITE STRIPE on her chest and of course TRADEMARK COCONUT HOUND EARS that go UP & DOWN. BRITTNEY'S foster mom say that she gets along great with kids, cats and dogs. She is great walking on a leash, she is still working on her house training but it is coming along. She says Brittney can be a bit jealous and possessive but nothing horrible, she just loves her foster mom. BRITTNEY was found recently abandoned in a small village near Puerto Plata around 9 weeks old by one of our amazing vet tech volunteers - Rianna Daley. She was covered in fleas and ticks and very ill. We quickly got to work pulling the ticks off one-by-one (you might remember see a full bowl in her intake pictures we took in July, 2021) and a medicated bath. Her fur was in rough shape but so was her body. The ticks had caused anemia (Ehrlichia) and we needed to treat her with the antibiotic Doxycycline and other medications for over a month. We are pleased to say that BRITTNEY made a full recovery from her illness but we also want to mention that BRITTNEY has teeth staining from being on the antibiotics that saved her life as a young puppy. BRITTNEY is a bit shy and needs quiet introductions to new people but interracts well with any dogs (she has off-leash dog park experience) or cats she meets since arriving in Canada. BRITTNEY lives with an 11 year old little girl who she loves to "dance with" when picked up by her front legs! She loves her ZOOMIES and then settles down for a quiet sleep at the foot of her foster Mum.She is a quiet but playful young girl with the other pups in her pen but also loves time with our volunteers when she gets a bath and her nails done - as you will see she loves to hang out in laps! BRITTNEY has also been cat-tested by our resident feline specialists Snow and Molly. BRITTNEY walks well on leash. She is absolutely sweet and affectionate. BRITTNEY is just over 1 year old (we have given her the honorary birthday of May 10, 2021) and weighs approximately 43 pounds. BRITTNEY is up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed. She is microchipped and registered. BRITTNEY is available for adoption in Canada. If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right pup for you! CUTIE PATOOTIE 'CILLA (aka PRICILLA) is a young Coconut Hound being fostered near KINGSTON, Ontario (formerly at Coconut Hound Haven Sanctuary in Luperon in the Dominican Republic. Her short-haired coat is Tan with White and Dark markings on her cute as a button nose. She even has a natural White collar around her neck and White stockings! Pricilla (Cilla) is shy at first but once she gives you a good sniff, she loves to snuggle up for a good ‘Netflix and chill’ session. She’s a beautiful girl that walks very well on a leash and is learning basic commands. She would thrive in a home that would help her to come out of her shell and develop a routine with boundaries focused on enforcing her confidence. Toys are a new thing for her, and she has yet to really learn to play with them, but she does enjoy carrying them around from room to room with her. Pricilla can be a bit 'dog reactive' as she can be not overly friendly with some other dogs.  Her rescuer and foster mother Kim writes; "'CILLA was found on the streets of Puerto Plata in April, 2021 fending for herself at just 8-10 weeks of age. I was driving to an urgent vet visit but as soon as I saw her, I knew I just had to stop for this little girl who was all alone". 'CILLA is an absolute delight! She loves to play with her puppy pen-mates. She hunts down her caregivers for love and has a constantly wagging tail (as you will see in her videos). She definitely considers herself a lap dog!!   'CILLA is leashed trained now (the video we show is her very first time ever on a leash - PLUS she was meeting resident CAT TESTER Mr. Snowball - and she passed all tests with flying colours! CILLA is a definite favourite with the volunteers at the CHH Sanctuary! 'CILLA is approximately 1.5 years old (we have given her the honorary birthday of January 18, 2021) and weighs approximately 42 pounds and is now full-grown. CILLA is up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed and ready to find her forever home. DIXIE is a young Coconut Hound being fostered in NEWMARKET, ON (formerly fostered at Coconut Hound Haven Sanctuary in Luperon in the Dominican Republic). Her short-haired coat is a Fawn Brown and she has a cute White front sock on her left leg! Hi I am DIXIE!!! My foster mom says ...I'm a little shy at first, but you just need to get to know me! I am good with children, other dogs, and well cats I've learned to live with them!! I love going for walks and I especially love to run. She says that I would make someone a great jogging partner, since I love to run so much!!! DIXIE and her two sisters Pixie (also available for adoption) and Bixie (now adopted and living in Canada) came into our care at the end of August, 2021. We have a store in Cabarete where people can purchase pet supplies for their own animals and also great DCDR swag. The store is on the 2nd floor of a building. One morning one of our volunteers arrived for their shift and discovered these 3 tiny 10 week old puppies weighing between 4 and 5 pounds each on the bottom doorstep in a box. She quickly called another volunteer and arrangements were made to bring them to our Sanctuary. AGAIN, their only crime was being born female. We were lucky, they were quite healthy and in good shape but we put them into our isolation building immediately as of course we knew they were unvaccinated. FAST forward months later and look at the beauties they have become. If you see them in person it is easier to tell them apart but they have a lot of similar physical characteristics. What they also share is their loving natures. They adore sitting on our volunteers' laps for a cuddle after having a bath and getting their nails clipped and their ears cleaned. They also love playtime and are indifferent to cats - EVEN WHEN OUR MOLLY wants to share a lap with them! DIXIE is a natural also walking on leash. The video you see is her very first attempt doing so! DIXIE is just over 1 years old (we have given her the honorary birthday of June 10th, 2021) and weighs approximately 51 pounds. DIXIE is up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed. DIXIE is microchipped and registered. DOTTY is a smaller, young Coconut Hound being Halifax, Nova Scotia (formerly fostered at Coconut Hound Haven Sanctuary in Luperon in the Dominican Republic.) Her medium-to-long-haired coat is CREAM that has hints of orangey-red when she gets wet. .... AND A GREAT FANNED TAIL!... and, of course TRADEMARK COCONUT HOUND EARS that go UP & DOWN!! DOTTY'S foster parent says she loves belly rubs and going for walks! She loves to sniff and is great on leash. She has not shown any reactivity to other dogs on leash. She likes treats and chew bones and will even steal the food right off your plate if she can get hold of it (so boundaries are important as she is learning). DOTTY has been sharing bowls of food with her foster sister and there is no resource guarding. She is mostly potty trained, however will have an occasional accident in the house, especially if she is startled (which is understandable). We now have her on a routine and schedule when out on her walks and that has really helped with her settling in.this past month. She loves to be cozy with a blanket and some toys. She is mostly a cuddle bug and as long as she gets a daily walk she is very content to hang with her people. She also gets cute cases of the "zoomies" where she will run around the house happy and playful. She does still have some puppy energy! If she finds a loose sock, you better believe she will make it her chew toy so we recommend that she has access to chew toys. She is very slow warming up to strangers (this is called "stranger danger"). This can sometimes this comes out as growls, barks, or even lunging at people. She would do best with a home that has time and patience to let her grow accustom to her and promote a routine, where she can gain confidence again and trust. She would do best without younger children (under 12) or inexperienced kids) running around, as this would spook her while she establishs her new routine. She would do best without cats as she is scared of them and shows some fear aggression. She loves her foster dog sister and loves to give her kisses.  DOTTY was found with 13 other dogs (including her mother Didi and sisters Dolly (now adopted) and Delta). They had been owned dogs and the owner had left the area but paid someone to feed them daily. They were trapped inside a building in the middle of the town of Luperon and never went outside. After several complaints by neighbours to the police of awful smells and barking - the authorities and Kim Watson from DCDR were called in. What they found was horrendous. Sadly the majority of the dogs (10) were already dead. In order to be able to enter the building, the fire department was called in as due to the smell and major health concerns, they needed to remove the corpses of the deceased dog and hose the walls and building floors down in order for Kim and Nando to rescue the remaining surviving 4 dogs (Didi, Delta, Dolly and Dotty). We started vaccinations immediately and we have started her on 30 day dose of the antibiotic Doxycycline as we know she likely has Ehrlichiosis by the amount she bled when we removed the ticks, plus her gums were very white. DOTTY was immediately friendly with our volunteers and loved her first bath so much. She immediately settled in onto a bed we keep in our isolation area and didn't want to leave - she was so happy for human company. She was so happy to get all the dead ticks off. On her arrival, amazingly she immediately took to being on a leash! DOTTY is approximately 1.5 years old (we have given her the honorary birthday of July 5, 2021) and she weighs approximately 21 pounds (she is very fluffy so looks bigger). DOTTY is up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed. She will be microchipped and registered before flying. DOTTY is available for adoption in Canada. HAPPY HENRY is a Coconut Hound-Shepherd Mix now being fostered in KINGSTON, Ontario (formerly at the Coconut Hound Haven in Luperon in the Dominican Republic). His short-to-medium haired coat is REDDISH-BROWN with amazing highlights in the sun.          HENRY qualifies for our reduced/senior adoption fees. HENRY'S foster parent says long term the best conditions for him to have is a quieter comfortable place & stress free life. Henry would do great with an older person who has a fenced & even not huge yard. Just a spot he can lounge outside to his heart’s content & someone to cuddle on the couch with.  *The less stairs he has in his life the better. He can do them, but does require assistance on occasion. Short carpeted staircases are easier for Henry to manage.* He is a very sweet boy though and loves his people. He’ll need someone who is happy for his "snuggles & occasional kisses." ***HENRY'S  foster really emphasizes he'd do well with a yard to lounge in, and to be with an elderly couple/person. He will need help with stairs.*** HENRY was brought to a DCDR volunteer's house by local Dominican men. They found him wandering on the road and saw that he had a wound on his neck and ear and was also limping. They knew he needed help as the wounds were infected and had screwworms in them. They said he didn't have an owner.  His one ear is now missing and he is missing some toes on his left front foot. We got him cleaned up, vaccinated and neutered right away. HENRY's ear wound healed nicely at first but the opening was too small and he began to get inner ear infections. We had him on constant antibiotics and did ear swabs. A surgeon in Santiago agreed to do a revision surgery on HENRY so that he would no longer get infections but also to make sure that he was in no pain. HENRY gets around great despite all he has been through and walks with a small limp - but can run like the dickens as you can see in one of his videos. HENRY is a fun loving boy and would make a great addition to any home. HENRY is such a tolerant fella as well - he was in a large pen with young puppies with huge personalities Shadow, Penny, Nikki and Gabi as you will see in one of his videos! HENRY is a definite favourite with our volunteers. HENRY is house-trained. He walks very well on leash and travels wonderfully in a car. He is a calming personality on other dogs (and humans alike). HENRY is about 5 years old, with an honorary birthday of May 12, 2017, and currently weighs 57 pounds - we are working on reducing his weight as this gain occurred from him having to be immobile for a period of time to heal. When at his ideal weight, he will weigh around 45 pounds - a traditional size for a male Coconut Hound. HENRY is fully vaccinated and neutered. He is also microchipped and registered. HENRY is available for adoption in Canada. If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right pup for you! CLICK on my link to put in your adoption request. HI! My name is Kara - I am being fostered in the MONTREAL area. I am a beautiful and rare (except in the DR it seems) Ginger female. My estimated DOB is May 1st, 2022.  I am almost 5 months old.  Kara is extremely intelligent! Like more than the average cat. She loves to play! She talks alot but has the cutest little meow. Kara is not a cat that likes to be held and cuddled that much, but she appreciates to be petted when she is in the mood. She would be good in a home with at least another cat or dog. She is also good with kids. So why am I in foster care you ask? Well I was found all alone on a large beach called La Boca. There were no houses in site. Fortunately a nice lady spotted me crying and came to check me out. I wasn't feeling well and I had a large lump on my leg. She scooped me up and took me home. She then went and found this place called the DCDR donation store. She talked to the helpful lady who was working that day and they messaged with another cat lady. The vet then advised on some medication for me. Seems I got bit by something and it made me really sick. But now I am all better. And the BEST PART?! While my wonderful rescuer can't keep me much longer as she is leaving the country, the nice cat ladies at DCDR said they could put me in something called foster care and help me find a family to call my own. I am SO excited. Maybe that someone is you?? I promise to cuddle with you and I won't hog the computer like most kids my age. Kara is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped and registered.  Kara is available for adoption in Canada. If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right kitty for you! Hi I'm Khai, I am being fostered in Hannon, ON in Canada. Khai is a great kitty and he really loves food!  He’s still very timid because my female cat Daisy isn’t nice to him. Sadly she lunges at him and he doesn’t defend himself. I have another cat who does fine with him so clearly it’s all my female cat issues .  The sweet boy would do great with a family, or individual who will be patient and offer him tons of TLC. My home currently does not have any dogs; so his interactions are limited to when he was trying to survive the streets of Dominican. He is very gentle kitty so I don’t see this being an issue.  Loveable Khai is currently recovering from a broken pelvis after being hit by a car. He also has a wound to his tail which may require amputation in the future.  It turns out he was "relocated" from a local hotel. He must have been so out of sorts he got into traffic and was hit. He is estimated to be about 1 year old. We have given him the unofficial birthday of July 26th, 2022 Poor Khai was spotted by one of our DCDR volunteers when she was going to work her shift at our voluneer store. He was laying just outside the door. Fortunate for him he came to the right spot! He was scooped up and taken into the store. On inspection not only was Khai lethargic he also had a serious wound to his tail. He was then quickly picked up by another one of our volunteers and taken to the vet. He was x rayed and was found to have a broken pelvis and a severly bruised and swollen leg. His tail may need a partial amputation in the future. He is on antibiotics and an anti inflammatory and pain med and has made great progress! He will be ready to go to a forever home very soon show less

Hola! My name is Malu! I am a girl who just LOVES TO BE LOVED.  I just arrived on the September charter from the Dominican republic to Canada, where I am being fostered in Peterborough, ON (formerly fostered in the Dominican Republic).  I HAVE A SECRET, WOULD YOU LIKE TO HEAR IT. ****** I AM AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. My coat is Black and White. MALU'S foster mom says she nicked named her "alligator" she loves to put everything in her mouth, including hands!!!  She is a little nibbler but she doesn't cause any harm. LOL.  She loves to play and can run very fast. She walks perfectly on a leash and never pulls her human. She is housetrained, and crate trained, and she loves her crate. She sleeps right through the night and eats all her meals in there. MALU would love to be a part of your furever family and go on many adventures of life with you.  Malu was rescued with her two other siblings Merlin and Marta. They were discovered with distemper, sadly Malu has involuntary tics from the distemper in their hind legs. Distemper has never slowed Malu down and she is still such a puppy at heart. While the workers at the Punta Cana shelter were on their weekly outreach in the community. The area where they were found and no one to take care of them. They were full of ticks and they were all super skinny. Their father, Martin, still lives in the streets and we feed him every week. He always makes sure to let us know if other dogs need help or if we have missed feeding someone.  Malu is such a sucker for love! Malu is very polite and will wait her turn patiently for pets and will snuggle up to you all day if she could. She loves to run around chasing whatever you throw, although she doesn’t quite understand how to return the ball yet, her cuteness makes up for it. Malu’s favourite thing to play is wrestling with all of the puppies. She is amazing with all dogs and even is polite when telling the puppies she is tired of playing and needs a nap before they play again. She is even good with kids! Malu is a medium energy dog. She loves to go on walks but at a slower pace because of her current condition. It is getting better every day though and soon she will be able to keep up if not flourish past all the other dogs soon! Malu is 1 yr old (we have given her the honorary birthday of August 8th, 2021) and weighs approximately 30 pounds. Malu is up-to-date on vaccinations, is spayed and ready to find her forever home. She is microchipped and registered. Malu is available for adoption in Canada and on-Island. If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right pup for you? MERCEDES is a young Coconut Hound being fostered in MONTREAL (formerly at Coconut Hound Haven in Luperon in the Dominican Republic). Her short-haired coat is a GLOSSY BLACK. MERCEDES was only 4 weeks old when found and was part of what we call the CAR LITTER and was rescued with 6 siblings [Miata, Ferrari, Lexus, Mercedes, (Ford & Chevy - now adopted in Canada) and Peugeot] by a DCDR volunteer who already had several fosters. Sadly we lost Miata, a little girl, very early on after rescuing her. Due to being taken from their mother at such a young age they did not get all of the natural immunity boosters from mother's milk. When they were first bathed - we noticed their skin wasn't in great shape and they had started to develop pustules. Regular baths with azufrin or chlorahexadine and they were given the antibiotic clavamox. We are happy to say they quickly turned the corner and healed fully. MERCEDES absolutely loves her playtime inside and outside. Her foster family has smaller pups which she gets along with amazingly. Have a look at her video where she is playing ZOOMIES with them and shares their bed. MERCEDES is well-socialized and also is exposed to a younger child. She is leash and house-trained. As you can see in her pictures, she has a very gentle mouth and loves her stuffed animals! While at CHH, she was quite the LAP PUP and enjoyed getting her bath, her nails trimmed and ears cleaned too! She is SMART and FUNNY! MERCEDES is just over 1 year old (we have given her the honorary birthday of July 21, 2021) and weighs approximately 42 pounds. MERCEDES is up-to-date on vaccinations, is spayed and ready to find her forever home. She is microchipped and registered. MERCEDES is available for adoption in Canada. Hi, I'm Merlin!    I am being fostered in Kingston, ON (formerly fostered in the Dominican Republic).  I AM AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. My coat is a Cream/Tan colour. MERLIN walks great on a leash. He loves to play rough and can get overly excited, so young children may not be a great fit. He is crate trained. He loves his crate and gets quite excited to go in it especially at meal time, he also sleeps in his crate. Merlin's foster mom says he can be fairly reactive especially to male dogs and bigger dogs, but he is learning quickly and is doing great with is foster brother. Merlin's foster mom feels that with the right person who is used to and willing to work with reactivity, and continue working with him, Merlin should get over it completely. Merlin is absolutely the sweetest love bug and loves to gives hugs. MERLIN says he will make his new furever family very happy, he PROMISES.  Merlin was rescued with his two other siblings Marta and Malu. They were discovered with distemper, thankfully Merlin has fully recovered from distemper while the workers at the Punta Cana shelter were on their weekly outreach in the community. The area where they were found no one would take care of them. They were full of ticks and they were all super skinny. Their father, Martin, still lives in the streets and we feed him every week. He always makes sure to let us know if other dogs need help or if we have missed feeding someone.  Merlin is definitely the sneaky one of the three. While Marta and Malu are getting attention Merlin is sneaking around our legs to get out of the room so he can say hello to all of his friends and run around. He is super kind and is always the sweetest to all of the dogs. Merlin could get pets and play all day if he could. Merlin is a medium energy dog that loves to go on walks, but also prioritizes his naps. He is super friendly with all dogs and kids! Merlin is 1 yr old (we have given him the honorary birthday of August 8th, 2021) and weighs approximately 34 pounds. Merlin is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered and ready to find his forever home. He is microchipped and registered. Merlin is available for adoption in Canada.  If you are looking for a forever friend - I might just be the right pup for you? MICKIE is a Coconut Hound Puppy being fostered in Canada in Kitchener, ON (formerly fostered at Coconut Hound Haven Sanctuary in Luperon in the Dominican Republic.) His short-haired coat is WHITE and he has the most adorable BLACK patch over his left eye. MICKIE qualifies for a Special Needs adoption fee, although he does not need any special treatments or medicines. Hi I am MICKIE,  My foster mom thinks I am as sweet as pie. I am an easy going little guy who just wants to be near my person. I get along with my foster sister and we have great fun playing together, but I would also be quite happy as an only dog getting all the love and attention. At night I sleep on my mat beside my foster mom and stay out unless she gets up for something, then I join her, but go straight back to sleep when she is done. In the morning, as soon as I know she is awake, I dance around the side of the bed, (I am to short to jump up) to say good morning. I don't usually spend alot of time alone, but when it happens, I am left uncrated and have been fine. I sleep while waiting for someone to come home. Because I had meningitis as a puppy, that was treated, I am missing most of my teeth , I only have a few in the back. and my tongue almost always hangs out to the right. This makes me make a mess when I eat, but I promise I will clean it up every last bit!!! I am a low to medium energy guy and would be happy to be in a fenced yard where I can explore and play. My harness and leash don't bother me, but I would rather explore and watch the world go by, instead of walking. My foster mom bought a laser for the cat and I LOVE chasing it up and down the hall. I love my soft squeaky toys but also appreciate something a bit firmer. We are currently working on my manners and my house training. You will need to continue this with me. MICKIE (and sibling Micah - also available for adoption ) was found in Maimon - the Cruise Ship port near Puerto Plata by Rianna Daley and amazing supporter and friend to DCDR. She had flown down to assist at our Mega Spay and Neuter Clinic. MICKIE'S mom, Mami was suffering from a large wound near her anus and the wound was infested with screw worms. The puppies were only 5 days old when we rescued her and their eyes were still closed. We spayed Mami (now happily living her best life in Nova Scotia) and brought her back to CHH to heal and to continue to nurse her newly-born babies. MICKIE is smaller than his sibling Micah (who is around 40 pounds) but just as full of puppy energy. He is rambunctious with the other puppies and dogs in his pen and loves a good time. As you can see, he also loves getting some quality cuddle time with our volunteers after getting a bath and a nail trim.  MICKIE had Meningitis as a puppy and had to learn to walk again. MICKIE literally could not stand up and had to be hand-fed. WATCH the AMAZING TRANSFORMATION he went through in the videos! He has hardly any teeth and when tired his tongue hangs out to one side, but this is not a medical issue, he is totally healthy now. Like his mother (and brother), MICKIE is short and squat - with the shape and legs of Corgi. MICKIE is almost 1 yrs old (we have given him the honorary birthday of October 5, 2021) and he weighs approximately 30 pounds. MICKIE is up-to-date on vaccinations, is neutered and ready to find his forever home. He is microchipped and registered. PIXIE is a young Coconut Hound being fostered in NEWMARKET, ON (formerly fostered at Coconut Hound Haven Sanctuary in Luperon in the Dominican Republic).. Her short-haired coat is a Fawn Brown and just a bit darker than her sisters.....and, of course TRADEMARK COCONUT HOUND EARS that go UP & DOWN!  Hi I am PIXIE!!! My foster mom says that I am a sweet, quiet, shy little girl who loves to go for walks through the long grass! I get along with other dogs, cats and I like kids as well. PIXIE and her two sisters Dixie and Bixie came into our care at the end of August, 2021. We were lucky, they were quiet healthy and in good shape but we put them into our isolation building immediately as of course we knew they were unvaccinated. FAST forward 3.5 months later and look at the beauties they have become. If you see them in person it is easier to tell them apart but they have a lot of similar physical characteristics. What they also share is their loving natures. They adore sitting on our volunteers' laps for a cuddle after having a bath and getting their nails clipped and their ears cleaned. They also love playtime and are indifferent to cats - EVEN those who try to hog laptime with our volunteers! PIXIE is just over 1 years old (we have given her the honorary birthday of June 10th, 2021) and weighs approximately 40 pounds. PIXIE is up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed. PIXIE is microchipped and registered. RIVER is a Coconut Hound Puppy being fostered in Canada in NAPANEE, ON (formerly fostered at Coconut Hound Haven Sanctuary in Luperon in the Dominican Republic). Her short-to-medium haired coat is DARK TAN with a LIGHT TAN underbelly plus gorgeous dustings of BLACK on her nose, forehead and back! River is a gentle girl that arrived in Canada in September and is slowly getting to know her new environment. She loves her foster siblings’ company, sits on command for treats, and is learning other commands like recall well. She is still getting used to going for vehicle rides but is learning they are not all bad. She is a very sweet girl. RIVER was found with her 7 siblings by a local man near the riverside in Luperón. He successfully found homes for all 7 but this one little girl. Now that she is older, she had begun wandering and he has an unfenced yard and he was worried she would be hit by a car so he asked if we would take her. RIVER is a happy-go-lucky puppy who enjoys playing with dogs but loves to cuddle with our volunteers after bath time! You will see her cutely perching herself on Sharon's lap in a couple of her pictures. Even now at 58 pounds, she still considers herself a Lap Dog! Seriously some of the things Kim and Sharon say; "I love everyone and everything....My only problem is letting the smaller dogs boss me around LOL (I know " daft" is another word they use).... GOSH, I would LOVE my own family and see if I still fit on anyones lap!!" Additionally, RIVER is leash-trained! RIVER is 1 years old (we have given her the honorary birthday of September 9, 2021) and weighs approximately 60 pounds. RIVER is up-to-date on vaccinations, is spayed and ready to find her forever home. She is microchipped and registered. RIVER is available for adoption in Canada. SOLITO is a Coconut Hound Puppy being fostered near HALIFAX, NS (formerly fostered at Coconut Hound Haven Sanctuary in Luperon in the Dominican Republic). His short-haired coat is CARAMEL BROWN & BLACK markings. Solito is a very sweet, gentle, cuddly and quiet boy. He is continuing to work on gaining his confidence, especially with strangers and in new environments.  Once he is able to build trust, he really enjoys being with his person. He is still very hesitant around men and will need to continue to work on this. Solito is cat and dog friendly. SOLITO NEEDS TO BE IN A HOME WITH ADULT FEMALES OR ADULT FEMALES WITH KID.  He has a very playful side of his personality and would do amazing with another dog in his home. He is crate trained and potty trained and is doing excellent with his leash skills. SOLITO was found by the side of the road with his mother. Friends of the Sanctuary were driving by when they saw movement.  His mother had recently been struck by a vehicle and killed - the movement they saw was this little fellow curled up beside her body. They picked him up and gave him a bath as he was covered in fleas and ticks. He weighed 6.6 pounds and was only 10 weeks old. SOLITO quickly became a favourite of our volunteers. You might remember his "O SOLO MIO" singing act as he was a great HOWLER and WHIMPERER as a young pup. We quickly realized that he needed a constant babysitter - and so older, vaccinated pups were put in his isolation pen to keep him company. Now he is a self-assured pup who has just begun being leash-trained. He is kid, cat and other-dog approved as well. You might say he is a great catch. If you check out every single picture of him he is grinning or smiling from EAR-TO-EAR! SOLITO is approximately 11 months old (we have given him the honorary birthday of October 24, 2021) and he weighs approximately 44 pounds. SOLITO is up-to-date on vaccinations and neutered.
