Maine Coon

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Janice (janice.frazier@sbcglobal.net) for more information about this pet. Online Adoption Application › Loving and adorable, but very special needsBriar is outgoing, loving, playful and loves life. He purrs close to non-stop and head butts you for loving. But he had a perianal hernia and GI tract complications since he was rescued as a bottle baby. We are still looking for the ideal home for Briar. He loves all animals (2- and 4-legged) and will become a very adored family member. But because of his issues he does need a special diet and a home that is easily suited to cleaning (non-carpeted or specialized room for him) as he can't always get to the litter tray to poop. If you are looking for the best of the special needs cats, for sure it’s him and he is worth the effort. Note the posting updates are in chronological order to see more on him.   Original Posting as baby: Multiple attempts to help him with vets locally would work for a while, but finally we had to take him to UC Davis for another surgery. This created quite a large vet bill for the group, requires special food, and significant care. Any donation will help significantly, towards his bill, and his on-going expenses. Please help us fund this little guy - - never seen such a trooper in a little kitten, he won’t give up; help us make sure we don’t have to! THANKS for helping!   UPDATE Nov 5 2015: Working with the vets, we have come up with a mix of canned and kibble foods to help Briar's poop firm up some so he makes the litter tray more and has gained some weight in the last months. He had stalled at about 5 lbs, but with the mix of canned and kibble we've got him up to 6 lbs. Also we had a scare when he plugged up with a hairball in rectum - with work we got it out. But now he gets hairball treatment gel with every meal till shedding season is over, and we have trimmed his beautiful tail (sadly) so he will not ingest the long 4' tail hairs. Still he's a wonderful, happy, beautiful cat!   UPDATE Dec 14, 2015: He is gaining weight and is now up to 4 lbs at 6 months of age, yeah!   Update Jan 15, 2016: At Vet check he was 4.8 lbs (yeah!) and is now eating Royal Canin Mom and Babycat kibble, as well as canned IAMS intestinal plus food, both easy to digest, so his poop is a bit more consistent in timing and firmness.   Update March 6, 2016: After trying baby kibble with Briar and finding it was a very fine balance to keep him from getting too firm of poop, we have started him on Metamucil in his canned food at the recommendation of UC Davis. So far we find that is nicely helping to manage the really loose stool.   Update Sept 20, 2016: Briar is much better on Metamucil and gained some weight as he's able to not have the food just run through him! Though he still doesn't always make it to the litter tray it’s much firmer poop and easy to clean up. He's just a total love bug and he's worth the work!   Update August 2017: We have him on a diet of canned food mixed with Metamucil and it does a relatively good job of firming up his stool but sometimes he still can't make the litter box, so he does have his own linoleum-floored room. And he does get out to hang out in the house when we can watch him to clean up after him if needed. We did have a scare earlier this month when he had a bout of colitis but the Vet said that can hit any cat and figured it was an isolated instance and so far she is right!   Update January 2019: It’s a new year and Briar is already 4.5 yrs old, wow time flies! We have worked out a specific food for him mixed with Metamucil and he is doing much better about getting to the litter box now. Still sometimes he has accidents but we are pleased that it is somewhat better and if you are looking to help support him the food is Fancy feast (Gravy Lovers chicken feast in grilled chicken flavor gravy).   Update January 2020: Briar continues to do well and he is just such a great cat and, besides cleaning up if he has an accident, his food mixture is very easy to do. And we also give him a Vitamin B12 shot weekly to help with absorption of nutrients; he’s very good about it. And like any long-hair cat, he gets Petromalt during shedding seasons - which he loves.Update November 2020: Covid hasn't effected this sweetie!!!!! Briar is doing really well.  We have his diarrhea even more firmed up, fine tuning the mixture of canned with metamucil, but still he can't control always making it to the litter tray, so he does have a room all his own, and we take that little extra effort to prep his meals. He also gets Vitamin B injections to insure proper levels of Vitamin B, since with diarrhea that is always a concern of lack of that nutrient.  You can tell he is doing well though, such a handsome boy and very shiny, thick, healthy coat and right body index.  Briar's just such a loving cat it's quite amazing the great guy he is, so rewarding to care for him, he flips on his side and back when he sees you like heh aren't I handsome!  He'd be perfect in a non-carpeted home with easy to clean floors.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.sweet, cuddly catHolly is the sweetest, most cuddly cat we’ve ever known. She will be a wonderful pet in a home where she is the only cat as she is not friendly to other cats. She needs a lot of cuddle time, play time, and lots of wet food (did we mention that she eats a lot?!?).  We found her eating with a colony of community cats that we support. She was super skinny with a distended stomach, covered with dirt, and her breathing was raspy, labored and wet.  We knew she needed help. She was friendly so we were able to get her to walk right into the carrier. Because of her bulging tummy we, and the vet, thought she was pregnant. But it turned out she was not pregnant, just sick. She needed antibiotics for a respiratory infection, and lots of good food. After about six weeks of medicine, and hours of love and affection, Holly was much better. At a follow-up visit with the vet we learned she had a condition called stomatitis, which affects the jaw and teeth. Several of her teeth were missing, and the teeth she did have were rotting. It must have been quite painful for her to eat. There is no cure for stomatitis so the best treatment was removing her bad teeth. So, now Holly has no teeth but she is feeling great! She eats like a champ (lots of wet food, though she can eat some small sized dry food)!  If you can give Holly this loving, wet food providing home, she will give you years of cuddles and friendship in return.  If you would like to adopt Holly, please contact Craig@yeutterville.com THIS animal listing is a COURTESY LISTING - not a 13th St Cat Rescue animal. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Jasper is one of these cool cats.  A gentle giant. He likes just to hang out and observe the world until you pull a laser pointer out-- then he runs around like a little kitten. He was rescued by San Martin animal control in February and came to us in March. He does have an old injury to his right back leg and some arthritis in that joint He also is FIV+ He could be taking some medication for his arthritis pain but he is awful with taking meds and does not eat the food if we put meds in there. He loves this little memory foam bed we gave him and he is also on a feeding schedule of 2x/day to help lose some weight to lighten the impact on those joints.FIV-positive means that your cat has been infected by the virus, but if it is not showing signs it may be years, if ever before the cat develops the clinical signs referred to as Feline AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome of cats). Just being diagnosed with the FIV virus does not mean your cat has feline AIDSThe primary mode of transmission for FIV is through bite wounds. Casual, non-aggressive contact does not appear to be an efficient route of spreading the virus. As a result, cats in households with stable social structures where housemates do not fight are at little risk of acquiring FIV infections. if you are looking for a mellow, companionable cat- he is an awesome candidate!!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Kiki 'Keekster' is a sleek beautiful healthy 4-year-old cat who loves to be with people.  He will follow you room to room just to be nearby for his nap, to investigate what you are up to, or cuddle up with some purrs.  He likes to “hunt” and needs a home that will play with him a couple of times a day to get his energy out.   He would be best suited in a home without small children as he will often pounce roughly when playing or use his teeth or nails to communicate.  He is very respectful to people's furniture and only uses his scratching post and pads – never the couch! He is such a quiet cat and will never wake up his humans at night or in the morning. He does not shed very much.  He loves to cuddle in the evening while you watch tv or if you read out loud to him.  He will be sneaky and try to go outside when you open the door so you must be quick but the good news is he is easy to catch.  However, he loves to go on adventures outside with his harness and leash.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. MacKenzie

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Mackenzie, (aka 'Mr. Mackenzie') (aka 'Captain Mac') (aka “Kenzers') is his own man.    He came to us with a blue wire “collar” around his neck and an eye injury.    We don’t know what his back story is. It’s very possible he had a “mixed” experience with his first “owner.”    We don't know.    Here is what we DO know:    We know he’s really smart.    When he wandered into our yard, thin as a rail, he approached the bowls of our outdoor cats. We gently told him that he was not allowed to eat there and gave him his own spot.    After that, twice a day, we’d say “go to your spot” and he’d dutifully trot over and patiently sit and wait as we passed the food out.    We only had to show him once. He never again tried to eat the other cat’s food.    That’s a smart cat.    We know he can still see out of his orange eye.    He reminds us of David Bowie, who got hit in the head as a kid and had the same look.    We thought to call him “Bowie,” but try saying that three times fast when calling for dinner. It didn’t roll off the tongue, so we went with “Mackenzie.”   He looks pretty cool with one orange eye and one yellow. He’s one cool cat.    We know he’s got FIV.    FIV is a kitty disease that can lower a cats immune system. Many cats live full, happy lives with very few issues. FIV is passed from cat to cat when fighting (fluid exchange), or a momma kitty can pass it along to her kittens when they are born.    We know he’s gentle.    He’s easy to pick up and handle.    We know he’s polite.    He’s never scratched our furniture, nor sprayed it.    He is a man of many hobbies.    His main joy in life is bird-watching. He would be most happy in a home that has close-up views of trees or bushes.    He loves a hardy round of catch-the-snake (long soft ribbon on a stick). He gets bored sitting around all day.    His bliss is getting a neck and chin rub. When he’s up for it, he’s into it.    And he’s a sucker for treats.    He’s got a drug habit.    Catnip. Lots of catnip. Especially a sock filled with catnip. ‘Nuff said about that.    He’s his own boss.    If he doesn’t want to come over, he’s very good at pretending he doesn’t hear you.   Other times he’ll come right to you. Depends on his mood.    He’s a little nervous about having humans as friends.     Sometimes he’ll hang out on the bed with us and he loves having someone around, although he would probably be embarrassed to admit it if you asked.    So we know he likes humans.   And he’s not a hider.    But he is still a little unsure about laps.    He’s patient with us as we explain this would be a great idea for attracting his new family. He will sit on a lap for a few moments, listening…then decides its not worth it without treats and shifts to a spot a foot away.    We sense a little anxiety from him when we try to get him to cuddle. We suspect he wants to, but it makes him nervous. When he was on pain meds from his surgeries, he enjoyed laying against our legs as we all lounged in bed. We think the meds softened his fear a bit.    He responds well to gentle, intimate talk and loving caresses.    We know he wants a home, and he wants his own human.  He wants to get so comfortable that he’ll feel safe lounging on the bed every night with a special someone.    With encouragement and time, we’re confident he’ll get into it. Mr. Kinda Serious will give way to Mr. Lovey Dovey with the right person.   Are you that right person? A gentle person? An encouraging person? A patient person?    If so, you and Mr. Mackenzie may be a perfect match.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. She enjoys cuddling with any available human and will curl up in your arms while you are typing on the computer or make herself comfortable on your lap whenever she gets an opportunity. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Tux was a community cat cared by some neighbors. He was shy but he would get close to some selected humans that would feed him. This year he already hurt himself twice, and the last time was serious since he had to have his tail amputated. Although he would avoid humans when outside, at home he is a love bug. It was decided that he deserved his own family to care for him. Tux is a HUGE scaredy-cat. He’s scared of loud noises and confusion. He doesn’t trust humans at first, but after making sure that he is safe he will come to you for pets and snuggles. He likes to play with catnip toys and catching a wand hidden under a rug or towel. He loves to nap and chill on our laps while watching netflix. He will purr and lay his head on your chest asking for pets. He talks a lot and his conversations are hilarious!  His perfect family would have a calm household environment. Since he was an outdoor cat and he may crave the outdoors once in a while, he needs some space and windows to look outside and everyday playtime. It would be a plus if he has access to a catio or a safe backyard. With proper introduction, he might get well with other cats, since he interacted with other community cats. At this moment Tux is recovering from his tail amputation.     Follow tux_the_giant on instagram for more pics and videos.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.
