About Gerty

Meet Gerty. She’s looking for a forever home!

Gerty came to us in December 2021. She has been in our care the longest and we are finally listing her for adoption after many months of her foster parents working with her.
If you remember, Gerty came to us from Marshall county shelter after being humanely trapped. She was living with 18 other dogs in a hoarding house and her living conditions were horrendous! I am attached a video. She has a story to tell and came to us a feral dog. True feral. You don’t see it very often but her lack of socialization is what has taken so long to get her ready.

When we first got her you couldn’t touch her. She handles being touched now to put her leash and harness on her and the occasional pets. She also boops your legs from behind to get your attention. While she doesn’t seek out attention all the time she is learning to want that. Gerty is just over a year old and about 40 lbs.
Gerty is definitely a dogs dog. For that reason she needs a home with another dog. Or several. She is very dog savvy. She loves to play and is still a puppy. Gerty also requires a secure fenced in yard. She’s housebroken and crate trained. Her foster parents also say she acts cat like.

We hope to continue Gertys classes and socialization to help her become a well rounded dog. This is a special dog with special needs seeking special placement. She’s an easy keeper and we hope that someone out there is willing to love her! She is so funny and totally silly and would make a great addition to any family!
