Meet Barkley! He is a black male Labrador Retriever approximately four to five years old. Barkley is a compact guy weighing only 50 lbs, but he has a massive heart of gold.  Barkley's temperament is sweet and mellow, and he's easy to have around. He is not a jumper, grabber, door rusher, barker, or chewer. Although he doesn't appear to have had very much training, he is a fast learner of the house rules and is happy to oblige once he understands his environment. Barkley was an obsessive "marker" when he first arrived at his foster home. Still, with a little patience, time (only about seven days), and the use of belly bands, he has completely abandoned this practice. He is now wholly trustworthy in the house, which is where he prefers to be 90% of the time unless his family is outside doing yard work and hanging out together.  Barkley LOVES to wrestle, herd, play tug-o-war and chase with his younger foster brother. Mornings are his favorite time of day. His foster parents believe he would enjoy having another young dog to enjoy these games. He is also good at entertaining himself in the yard, hunting lizards, and other small critters in the bushes. Therefore, we don't believe placement in a home with other small animals would be good for him. Barkley plays a little bit of ball, and his interest has grown since watching his two foster brothers play multiple times a day. He will need (and benefit) from being "crated" during his transition period into his new home anytime you are away from home. At night he could sleep quietly in your bedroom. Barkley enjoys nice car rides, and he walks nicely on a leash. He knows his name and comes when he is called. Barkley would benefit from some training on some basic commands like sit, stay and come.   Barkley has been neutered, up to date on his vaccines, and microchipped. Meet Delilah! She is an adorable senior black female Labrador Retriever, approximately eleven-years-old. Delilah came to WCLRR when her family asked for help her finding her a new family. They wish they could have done more for her, but their living circumstances drastically changed. Delilah visited our veterinarian for a complete senior panel workup. We are happy to report that Delilah's bloodwork came back with no concerns. While Delilah is a little overweight and has some allergies, she is in good health and condition. Delilah is current on an allergy medication to help with her paw licking and help get her coat and skin looking better. Delilah may benefit from being on an NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) to help with her joints and arthritis, as expected with senior Labradors.   Delilah is a playful girl who likes to wrestle and play tug of war with the other senior lab in her foster home.  She also likes to play ball and chase. Considering her age, Delilah gets around very well.  We believe Delilah would like the company of a playful dog friend. She is a velcro-dog and loves nothing more than to follow her foster mom around the house or lay at her feet while relaxing in the home or the garden.    Delilah is housebroken and sleeps through the night on a dog bed in her foster mom's room. Delilah knows basic commands like, sit, down, stay, shake and come. She gets very excited when she sees the leash and knows it's time for a walk. Delilah loves carrying her leash as they walk the neighborhood. She is not interested in other dogs while on a walk and will go on her way when she spots them. Delilah will always stop to get a friendly pat on her head and loves people's attention. Delilah is non-reactive to noises and does not alert bark. She likes looking out the front window of her foster home but does not bark at passersby.    Delilah has a bad habit of picking up items left on the ground, socks in particular. Her new family must make sure things are not left out for her to get them. Something like a sock could be ingested and cause a blockage requiring immediate care.  Delilah wants to be part of a loving home, and in return, she will provide endless amounts of love and affection. Meet Laurie! She is an approximately three-year-old petite female chocolate Labrador Retriever. When Laurie came to us, she was nervous and scared, and now she is settled in with her foster family; she is the most loving and affectionate little girl who wants to be by your side. Laurie loves to follow along with her foster siblings. We believe she would be happy with another four-legged friend or as an only dog. Laurie loves being with people and has shown a little separation anxiety, and gets very nervous when left alone. Because of this, she would do well in a crate for everyone's sake, even if for just a few minutes to run a quick errand. Crate training can be a slow process, but there are several technics and tricks that we can share with her new family.  Laurie loves to go on long walks but has not been leash-trained. She is powerful, so she and her owner will benefit from good leash training. Laurie does well off-leash and comes right back to you when you call her. If you have off-leash areas that are safe and enclosed, she'll do great. She is housebroken and sleeps through the night on her bed.  Laurie hasn't shown interest in toys. However, she is learning to fetch and bringing the ball back. Laurie is a lover and will endear herself to anyone who will hold or pet her. She's not been around cats, but she goes after birds and squirrels, so we will not place her in a home with cats. Laurie also barks at horses and donkeys on her walks.  Laurie's new family should consider some training to help her learn basic commands and leash skills. Meet Monty! He is a black male Labrador Retriever approximately five years old. Monty is a large boy with a personality that will melt your heart.  He came to into WCLRR from a shelter listed as a stray.  Monty sat waiting, scared and confused.  Monty is very affectionate and loves to lay with his head in your lap while watching tv and get tummy rubs. Monty's foster says he has the flip on his back perfected to get those much-loved belly rubs and provide endless kisses. Monty can also be very comfortable hanging out in the yard while his foster is doing yard work. He's just an easy-going kind of dog.  Monty has learned the doggy door at his foster home will come and go as he needs to. Monty is not fond of the crate and prefers to sleep on a doggy bed next to his foster family.  Monty is non-destructive and not a counter-surfer or trash digger.  Monty can be a little timid and cautious with new noises and situations but easily adapts and adjusts. Monty needs to have some training, he's not great on a leash, mostly weaving back and forth, and he will pull towards other dogs or critters.  Because of Monty's size, his new owner should work on this immediately. Monty is food motivated, so this will make training much more straightforward.  Monty is a medium energy boy learning to fetch and loves doing his zoomies in his yard after doing his business. He loves playing with a soccer ball. Monty's foster describes him as a cuddler, lover, intelligent, quickly settles, kisser, and just about perfect.  Due to Monty's size, we would not be able to place him in a home with children under 8. We have not cat test him, but due to the prey drive that has been observed, we can not consider homes with cats.  If your looking for a big love bug who will be happy to hang with his family, then Monty might be perfect for you.  Monty is neutered, up to date on his vaccines, and microchipped. Meet Sophie! She is a yellow female, Dudley Labrador Retriever, approximately three-years-old. Sophie was surrendered to WCLRR after giving birth to 10 gorgeous puppies (we were not involved with her puppies.) It is now Sophie's time to find her new home, who will make her a priority and give her all the love she deserves.  Sophie was not exposed to many things and can be nervous at times. While in her foster home, she has overcome a lot of her insecurities. Her new family will need to be patient and allow Sophie to come out of her shell in her own time.    Sophie is currently fostered with another young dog, and we have seen so much improvement in her that we would like to place her in a home with another dog that is not dominant but will help Sophie learn to be a well-balanced pup.     Sophie will need some training, and she is very responsive to training, so that should not be a problem.    Sophie is not a high-energy dog, but she shows signs of wanting to play now – so her energy levels may go up in the future. For the moment, she is happy sitting on a dog bed beside a desk and being with her family.  Sophie loves her walks, and her tail wags when she sees the harness.  Sophie is potty trained; her new family needs to learn her schedule and give her potty breaks to set a routine. If her home has a doggy door would also be a good idea. Sophie sleeps all night without having an accident.  She was crated a couple of times initially, but she didn't like it much, and since then, there has been no need to crate her. She happily stays in her bed all night next to her fosters and their dog.  Sophie devours her food quickly, so a puzzle bowl is a good idea for her.  Sophie loves other dogs and gets along well with them; she has become inseparable from the foster's dog, walking shoulder to shoulder together.
