About Capo
Capo is estimated to be somewhere between 5-7 yrs old. His paperwork says 7 but he displays a slightly younger personality and energy. He is very eager to please people, smart and ready to learn, takes corrections well and responds better to affection/attention reward faster than he does food reward with the exception of the mastiff butt-plant when he doesn't want to go somewhere. He is doing very well with training and acclimations to an inside the home environment. He's an absolute love who needs someone to show him who the leader is, leep him challenged intellectually and physically.
He needs the confidence and trust in his human, built from consistency and positive interaction/direction/redirection to make him his best pupper. As a slightly insecure dog, he does become overstimulated easliy. His anxiety response is to mount, hump or chew. The chewing presents more if the attention is withdrawn but he can still see the person he wants attention. Because of his humping and mouthing behaviors and easliy overstimulated, he is not recommended for any family with rambunctious play atmosphere or small children. He would be best with the only dog. He exhibits interest in playing with cats but no aggression or prey drive. He does really well with cats. We prefer Capo be an only dog, however he ok around other calm dogs. He will resource guard for attention (not toys or food), so when other dogs get attention, Capo will react. So, he needs a home that is familiar with this insecure behavior, will continue to crate him (it's his safe place and used for downtime), and will be consistent with Capo. Like most dogs, Capo wants your direction, he strives to make his person happy and is a very smart boy. He can be mouthy when he wants affection or play time with you. While he is gently about being mouthy, we are working on redirecting this behavior and would like a family that would continue to do the same for him.
He is up to date on vaccinations and on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. In the few weeks Capo has been with his foster, he has been learning, adjusting, and seeking a human bond. We hope to find him the perfect family he can begin to build this bond with. He is a very good boy who needs his fur-ever family with a calmer home to help him relax, continue to build confidence, and will take him on walks.
