About Sammi
Sweet, sweet Sammi. This beautiful girl is hoping to catch your eye and become yours forever! Sammi is a 10 month old shepherd (maybe even whippet!) mix who has come so incredibly far in her progress since joining us from Texas last month. When Sammi arrived she was very scared and shutdown, but with her foster family’s patience and love she has really started to show us the sweet and tender-hearted side of her we’ve come to love so much. Sammi weighs in at around 40-45lbs and we aren’t totally sure about her history, but she has several scars on her body (around her ankle/foot, and on her face) that tell some of her story. She is pretty timid in new situations, but is continuing to gain confidence in her foster home every single day. As you can see by the big smile on her face, Sammi LOVES walks! She loves exploring and walks well on a leash; she would definitely make someone an awesome running/hiking buddy. She has also come to learn all about the joys of enjoying cozy dog beds, snuggling on her foster’s bed, and lounging away on the couch. If there are visitors in the home, she does tend to watch and observe from the other room…but we are confident that given some more time she will feel comfortable enough to greet them. Sammi has also learned a lot about home life from being able to shadow her 4-legged foster siblings, so Sammi does need a forever family with another dog already in the home...from whom she can take cues and gain confidence. She also does just fine with cats, and usually tends to respectfully give the kitties their own space. Sammi is a bit shy when meeting new human friends, but once she knows you (and if you offer her some deliciously irresistible treats) she does just fine and warms up pretty quickly. She does take a little bit longer to warm up to men (something to note is that she is never mean, only timid), and does tend to do better meeting males if they are sitting down (while offering her treats, of course!). Once she is comfortable, she is just as sweet as can be! She loves to give kisses and curl up under your arms for pets. Sammi is crate-trained and potty-trained, isn’t a barker, and also seems to be totally unaffected by storms/thunder. She hasn’t quite figured out what toys are yet, but we are convinced that she will soon learn! She also seems to enjoy kids, but will also need a home with children who are old enough to understand her shyness and respect her boundaries (probably ages 10+). She truly is the sweetest girl ever, and wants nothing more than to be loved and give love in return. We are hoping to find her the most perfect match who will continue to help her prosper and grow! š
