About Peggy Sue

Hello! My name is, Peggy Sue. I'm almost 12 years old. I'm a little pluppy weighing in at 95 pounds, but what's a girl to do at my age.

I've had a really hard time. My Dad went into hospice care. He had to find homes for me and my two dog siblings. They got adopted and I was left behind. When my Dad was moved, they put me at the Jacksonville Humane Society.

I was really depressed. I lost my Dad, my siblings and my home all in about two weeks . I stopped eating. I had given up hope.

Ayla's Acres came to my rescue. They found a foster home for me, brought me to the vet to have me checked all over, and I'm now ready to find my true furever home.

I love walks and I'm good on a leash. I do well with kids and cats. However, I'd probably like a quiet home with people around to love me.

I do have lumps and bumps, but they've been checked. Nothing bad. My blood work was good and I'm up-to-date on my shots. I'm heartworm negative and I even had my nails trimmed.

If you can open your home and your heart for an "older" girl, please fill out an application at

There is an adoption fee and a home visit is required.

Baxter is a sensitive soul just waiting for the right home/person to show him how to live life.   He is starting to learn what a real dog life should be like.  He enjoys the outside and he has spurts of rolling around in the grass on his back. Anytime you say “outside” he is ready to go! He is learning to walk on a leash.  He is good with other dogs and cats. He gets excited at meal time and you can see the happy boy run around. He will bark to let you know someone has delivered a package and it is on the porch.   You have a built in “You Got Mail” notification alert.  Baxter was relinquished to Ayla's Acres along with 33 other dogs from one owner who was unable to handle so many dogs. As you can imagine, these dogs have had little socialization, interaction with people and the outside world in their short lives. We are looking for experienced dog owners who are familiar with positive reinforcement training and who are patient and willing to take the time to build confidence in these dogs. That being said, they have shown us how resilient they can be. They are full of curiosity, tenacity, cuddles and are overcoming their fears daily. They have been in our care since 01/29/22 so we are still learning about each pup and will update their bios as we do. If you are interested in meeting any of our pups, please complete an adoption application at A home visit and adoption fee is required. show less
