About Sylvie aka Camellia

Adoption Fee: $150.00

Sylvie is a wonderful dog, approximately 5-1/2 years old. She is a typical hound, very interested in smelling everything, very smart and very food oriented. She is stubborn, but a quick learner.  She has been fine with all the dogs she has met.  She is cat friendly but needs to be around cats that are dog friendly, as she gets very scared if a cat is aggressive towards her. She is kid friendly, but would do better in a household with older children. She loves playing with her toys and carrying things around and playing chase, and adores lying in the sun and being scratched. She gets nervous around too much activity.  She is house-trained and fully up to date on shots and medicines. She has no apparent interest in small animals (cats, squirrels, guinea pigs, gerbils etc.) but is VERY interested in deer and foxes, so needs someone who can hold her if she sees one. An ideal household for her would be empty nesters or a family with one or two quiet children. If she liked the dog, I think a household with another dog would be ideal, and if the cat was dog friendly - would ignore her or be affectionate, a cat would be fine. She is affectionate and sweet and a total goofball with her toys and just a sweetheart.

The Adoption Process

  1. If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic
  2. Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills.
  3. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.
  4. The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.
  5. The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150.

Should the match turn out less than perfect, or if you are unwilling or unable to care for an adopted animal, the Louisa Humane Society will take the animal back into our care.

Miss Mouse came into the shelter in 2016, totally terrified and destined for a barn.  But something in those big, worried eyes told me she had potential for an indoor life.  She is still very shy but enjoys being around people and is great with other cats and fine with dogs.  Petting is acceptable on her terms 😸  Her big eyes and chubby belly make her just an adorable girl.  Home fostered at Lake Anna, she is fully vetted and ready for her own home.
