About Ruby

Ruby's 2 favorite pastimes are going for walks and lounging around on the couch. She does the cutest happy dance when her foster mom or dad comes home and will always welcome the pets or belly rubs.

She is about 7 years old and weighs about 50 lbs; she’s durable and strong like a Ruby.  She is house-trained and calm in the crate, rides well in the car, does not jump on people and does well with other dogs. Her foster mom says she is an easy peasy sweetie.

Ruby prefers calm dogs. She has done well with dog-savy cats and children. Ruby knows "sit" and "down"

Ruby does not care for strangers and can be protective of her home.

She is spayed, microchipped up to date on vaccines and flea and tick preventions. Her adoption fee is $200.

Certainly a very difficult post for our family to be writing!  This is Alder - he is roughly 5 years old and is a lab/beagle (per DNA testing) mix in wonderful health. He weights 45lbs and is pushing lap dog territory, but will forever be one if you let him! We adopted him when he was one, and he has been a huge adventure buddy with us the last 4 years - hiking, swimming and mountain biking. We've trained him off leash to do all the things we love, and nothing makes him happier than tromping through the woods. All in all, he is the perfect family dog. He is watchful (alerts you if someone comes to the door), very loyal and great with all animals (he lives with a cat) and children (including infants - we have a 7 month old). He loves playing fetch and squeezing his toys. He has never torn anything up while being left alone and has a bladder of steel (due to him not thinking of anything else besides when you will walk back in the door). He even asks to come up on the furniture.  The only complicated aspect for Alder is thunderstorms. He has a very strong reaction while we're in our home to it thundering. He shakes, pants and paces. While he is boarded, we are told he does very well during storm.  We believe it's because he is around other alpha dogs that make him feel safe. He has a prescription for medication to help his anxiety during storms that we will pass along. He often does well hiding under furniture or in the bathtub.   We are feeling the push to get Alder a better space (we live in a very small home with an infant now) with a person or family that adventures regularly or has a farm. Life has changed drastically for us the last 7 months.  We have a lot of traveling coming up, and we can't offer him the amount of adventuring he had before. We really want a loving family to transition him to. He is up to date on all vaccines as of June. He comes with a big dog bed, crate, food, treats, food/water bowls, flea/tick and heartworm meds for the next 6 months and toys galore.  Be in touch if you sound like a good fit and want to meet!  Sarah at 828-388-1249 or Sarahalynn128@gmail.com. show less

Attention: This is a courtesy posting only! Hi everyone! My name is Baloo, and I am a 4-year-old German Shepherd Dog/Husky mix. I am looking for a family that would love me as much as I will love them! I was unfortunately in a car accident a few months ago that left me with some gait instability. At first, I was paralyzed in my hindlegs. But I underwent two spinal surgeries and after some long, hard recovery, I am now able to walk short distances! With some help with my balance, I can go even further! I was scared and confused during this time because I didn’t understand what happened to me, but I never stopped being the happy, loving boy I am! In fact, my new favorite activity quickly became sitting in the front yard so I could people-watch, since I couldn’t go on walks anymore. Not to toot my own horn, but I quickly became a neighborhood favorite!  The vets think my legs will continue to get stronger and I’ll be able to walk even longer distances independently with time and patience. My other challenge is occasional bladder and bowel incontinence. When the accident happened, at first, I lost complete control of both, and needed to be expressed. But I’ve been working hard and am mostly able to control it again myself.  I also wer a belly band very nicely.  But I do have accidents every now and then. I promise I don’t mean to! But I appreciate you being understanding about my recovery. When I pee, I need a little help from someone holding my waist as I walk around the backyard to relieve myself. When I poop, I usually need a sling under me for mild support. I hold most of my weight on my own, but I can’t squat completely independently just yet.  I would love to join a family where one or more people work from home/stay at home mostly. I love everyone I meet (dogs, cats and children!), but once I consider you my person, I become really attached and come to love my time with you. I do fine when left home alone. I wander the house and am smart enough to know not to go into rooms I am told not to be in, not to jump onto any furniture, and not to chew up any toys. But I prefer spending most of my time with my family if possible. And I enjoy that time even more if we spend it together outdoors. Right now, I like my weekly trips to grassy parks where I can move around with my current limited mobility, but I don’t hurt my paws because the grass is long and soft!!  Overall, I am a happy, sweet boy who loves my people and the outdoors. I am smart, adapt quickly, and learn new rules and routines well. If you don’t mind being patient with me, I promise to love you with all my heart and to bring lots of happiness to your life! Please give me a chance! Please contact my family today at 214-843-7838 to arrange to meet me.  You won't regret it! show less

Hey there! So you're looking for a pup?!  Well my name is Bear, and I am looking for a new home. I am a 2-year-old Black mouth Cur (I think), about 65 pounds, spayed, chipped and up to date on all my vaccines. Even though I am not allowed to walk without a leash yet, I do mostly well on a leash when I know where I am. Sometimes things distract me and I get excited, or even scared when I’m not familiar with the trail…hm, maybe that’s why I always need a leash. Either way, I love my daily 1.5 mile walks, and running around my ½ acre backyard; this really helps get my energy out. I don’t want to be picky, but I know a similar situation would be a must-have for a potential new family. Speaking of family, I was adopted when I was 5 months by a family with 2 young boys. I loved the big guy since the car ride home, but it took me a little longer to warm up to everyone else. I think I was really just nervous and scared being so young, because now I usually warm up to most people pretty fast. I play well with the boys, even though I can get a little too excited and have a tendency to knock into them or what they’re working on. I also like other dogs, but similarly, can be on the rougher side. I think it would be important that my new home does not have smaller children or dogs, but I would love another big dog to play with! I should confess that sometimes my love can require a lot more in return. I actually have separation anxiety when the big guy is away, and I can be a bit protective. I usually settle down when he leaves, or when I meet new people, but it can be a little hard for me at first. Really, I just need a lot of love and attention, with a bit of rough housing. Oh right, speaking of housing…I am quite proud of how well I learned to live in a house! Although I can make a mess tearing up my toys, I do not chew shoes or couches, and I always do my business outside! I also learned some basic commands (and a few not so basic) after we found the right training program for me. To be honest though, I may have forgotten a few. You see, I live in a more free roaming house, and the folks here are not really able to keep up with my training. I know in my heart that someone with good training experience, especially with ‘spirited’ pups like me, would be the best match.   Also, there is just a little bit of medical/dietary info you should know; a little while ago I started taking some joint health supplements after I was having some troubles walking. A surgeon had said that I don’t need surgery, but instead if I take these supplements for the rest of my life, I should be fine…so far so good! I also really like raw meats added to my kibble, especially ground turkey or salmon (I think the salmon really helps my joints, too!). I know this and the supplements are little more than most people are used to, but I would love it if you could afford me this…I really don’t require much more than that, not even treats all the time! Just one at bedtime! Well, I really hope you are considering bringing me into your family. Even though I love my current family, I think we are just at different stages in our lives that can make things difficult. Just to recap, I know it would be best if you could devote a decent amount of time and love to me, and use your training experience to keep me busy and on track. I look forward to seeing you in your big yard, and where we will always be walking! Please contact the big guy when you're ready to meet me, or have any questions. Boba

Attention: This is a courtesy posting only! This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue.  Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website.  Contact Leslie at 415-271-6647 (phone or text) for more information or to adopt the pet. Meet Boba! He's a 2 year old, about 27 pound Mini Aussie who loves running and fetching and being out in nature. He loves the people and pups in his life, too. He takes some adjustment when meeting new people, but once you're 'in', you're in!  Boba has gone through nearly a year of training with Kabler School for Dogs and walks well on a leash, comes when called (even from far away on the trails), sits, stays, etc. In addition to all this goodness, he brings a few warts - he’s gotta be managed around new people and unfamiliar animals. He’s bitten before when his boundary has been crossed (a pet from an unfamiliar person) and takes a daily med (fluoxietine) to help keep his Aussie anxiety at bay. He’ll also bark at your local UPS and Amazon Delivery driver. Our house is a bit too chaotic for him, and he’d benefit from a calmer home with big space to roam or a fenced-in yard. I've got Boba's behaviorist summary and vet records and am willing to work with whoever might want to take our guy home to make it a smooth transition for him and his new family. Also happy to help 'onboard' to the training we've done. We aren't in a rush to rehome our beloved boy; just want what's going to help him thrive, so really looking for the best match. Contact me today at 415-271-6647 (phone or text) to learn more about Boba. show less

Attention: This is a courtesy posting only! This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue.  Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website.  Contact 443-974-8653 or hannah.presley.14@cnu.edu for more information or to adopt the pet. Buddy is a 4-year-old pit mix with a big heart in need of a loving home. He was found in our neighborhood and sent to animal control. We rescued him off the euthanasia list, and now Buddy is looking for a second chance. Based on his behavior and condition, we believe he's been living outside for some time but did have an owner and training at some point. He responds to basic commands (sit, lay down, off and stay) and puts himself to bed in his crate each night. He travels well in the car and rarely ever barks or whines (in the car or otherwise). He would be best with an owner who has rescue experience. He loves people (of all ages) and eats up all the attention he can get. He wants to be near you and will "boop" you with his nose until you rub his chest. Buddy seems to like other dogs that are his size, but he has not interacted with small dogs or cats under our watch.  He is unphased by horses and chickens. Buddy does not like his hind legs or hips touched and can be reactive if grabbed from underneath. He loves to be outside but cannot handle long walks and does not run. He appears to have pain in his hips/hind legs when walking. Ultimately, Buddy is in need of a forever home with patient and experienced owners. He is up to date on all vaccinations and is currently being treated for heartworms. He is a sweet boy who will love anyone who gives him a chance.  Contact me today at 443-974-8653 or hannah.presley.14@cnu.edu to learn more about sweet Buddy! show less

LONG STAY 50% REDUCED ADOPTION FEE THROUGH SEPTEMBER:  $75 each. BONDED PAIR:  Ciabatta and Pumpernickel.  Ciabatta is an affectionate, good-natured sweetheart who loves to play! Her favorite things to do include leaping for wand toys, chasing the laser pointer, and racing around the foster room with her brother Pumpernickel. Ciabatta is more of an active girl than a lap cat. However, she loves touch and will turn into a complete purr monster for brief periods of snuggling! Ciabatta can be a little timid when she first meets people or encounters a new situation, so starting out in a smaller space (with fewer spots to hide) will work best until she gets more comfortable in her surroundings. Ciabatta and Pumpernickel have become bonded besties in their foster home, and are looking to be adopted together. They both had a bit of a bumpy start to life, coming to us several months ago with corneal ulcers. After treatment and under the supervision of our vet, the ulcers have healed, and their vision has not been affected. (All that remains is a slightly cloudy film over their affected eye due to scarring.) However, their immune systems are now a little more sensitive to stress. This dynamic duo loves to play hard and can get a little rambunctious at times, so they would be happiest in a home with older children or other playful pets who can handle their energy level!  Adoption fee reduced to $150 for the pair (normally $250) through September.  Meet Ciabatta and Pumpernickel by completing our adoption application online or visit them at Thrift Hound during regular business hours 7 days a week. They are spayed/neutered, up to date on their vaccines, FELV/FIV tested, microchipped, given a few rounds of dewormer and started on monthly flea preventative.   show less
