About Sammy

Adoption Fee: $175

Sammy is a beautiful brown tabby who unfortunately has found herself in a sad situation. Her previous owner, a nurse practitioner at New York Presbyterian, passed away in a car accident a few weeks ago on her way to work leaving behind her wife and their twin toddler sons. The family made a difficult decision to move to Chicago to be closer to their extended family but unfortunately was not able to take the cats with them. Sammy’s brother, Brady, already found a home. But Sammy has not.

Sammy is a total love–super friendly, and just wants to sit next to you on the couch and get pets. Sammy loves following her foster mom around the apartment, gets along well with dogs, and doesn’t even mind birds! Sammy is around 14 years old, and does have some thyroid issues, but they are well controlled with a daily pill that she eats as a treat. Even though she lived with another cat before, we were told that he often stressed her out so we think Sammy will do best as an only cat. Who wants to give this sweet lady another chance at life?

Autumn is a 4-month-old, 15-pound female "potcake" from Antigua who would love to be your next brewery buddy. "Potcake" is the name given to mixed breeds in the Caribbean. They're known for being very affectionate, love being around people, and adopt easily. Autumn fits this description perfectly!  Autumn is the smallest of the litter, but you wouldn’t know it by watching her play! When she’s not playing she’s probably napping or putting her head in your lap looking for some attention. Autumn plays very well with her brother, but can be shy around other dogs she doesn’t know on the street. She’s still getting used to being on leash and not being nervous outside, but does amazing with new faces in the home. Autumn is the perfect puppy! She sleeps through the night quietly in her crate and is doing great with house training. She's a teething puppy and is easily re-directed with a bone. She is young, healthy puppy and will need someone who understands the time and committment it takes to train a puppy. We anticipate she will grow between 25 - 40 pounds, but we can not guarantee the final size of a puppy. Vaccinated for rabies, 3 rounds of DA2PP, and lepto. Another round of DHPP due 8/18. Microchipped. Needs neuter and heartworm test at 6 months of age. Flea and tick prevention due 8/27 (Bravecto). Heartworm prevention due 8/24. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Buddy is a 3-year-old, 13-pound male chihuahua mix from the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. Buddy is ALL EARS waiting to hear news of his new home! He is a typical chihuahua who took a little time to warm up to his foster, but now that he has, he's very sweet and affectionate with him! Buddy can be protective of his person and wary of strangers, but is able to warm up with some time (and treats of course!). He loves to play with toys and is food motivated. He has not shown any resource guarding with his human, who went slow until he gained Buddy's trust. Buddy walks well on a leash and is very housebroken - he has not had an accident in his foster's home at all! He loves going for walks and sniffing around. Buddy will bark a bit when left home alone, but eventually settles down for a nap, and is generally a very well-behaved dog at home. Buddy is looking for an experienced adopter, foster, or foster-to-adopter who can provide structure and training, since he can be possessive of his person and his home when someone enters his space (barking). We do not recommend young children since he can be touch sensitive until he trusts you. He is a loyal, sweet little pup who would do well with an experienced and patient adopter!  Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PPv, lepto, and bordetella. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention due 7/22. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! If you’re looking for triple the fun, then these 3 rescued musketeers are the ones for you! They share a special sibling bond and must be adopted together. They’re about 8-9 months young, up to date on shots, FELV/FIV negative, litter trained, and spayed/neutered. Thor, black male, known for his gentle soul and calm nature. He loves his naps and his feathered/bell toys, and soft belly rubs. He’s truly a baby at heart and his handsome face will capture you at first sight. Captain America, aka Cappy, is a male tabby, who can be shy, but once out of his shell, he’s sweet and affectionate, and often dubbed as “Romeo”. If he’s not following you around, he’s teasing his siblings with a good chase or wrestle. Wonder Woman, aka Winnie, is a black female. Don’t be mistaken by her little size, she has a big adventurous and inquisitive personality, who tends to lead her brothers and loves to snuggle with each one. Give her a toy mouse and watch her go!  They love watching TV, particularly they’re favorite YouTube channel at the moment is Birder King. If the TV is not on, you’ll find them by the window enjoying the view. They’re shy at first with strangers, but once they warm up, they really enjoy your company. Just shake the bag of treats and they’ll come running!  Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Finnegan is a 9-month-old, 50-pound male golden retriever puppy.  He was born with deformed paws and one front leg had to be amputated in March. It was very painful and we decided it was best to get rid of it while he was still young. He was found in Texas with two other siblings and a friend asked his foster to help hold him. Finnegan is extremely energetic and loving. He had some separation issues because with covid he has been around someone all day. With some patience, he settles in. He's like a little kangaroo always thumping about. He can be a little rambunctious but tires out with any type of play fairly quickly. Finnegan currently lives with a cat and a chihuahua. He does well with kids older then 5 years old. Finnegan does great with three legs but he’s still recovering from his surgery. He is a healthy and caring pup and would do great with a elevator building or someone with a yard. Vaccinated for rabies and neutered. THIS DOG IS NOT IN WAGGYTAIL'S CARE. APPLICATIONS WILL BE FORWARDED TO FINNEGAN'S RESCUE. APPLICANTS WILL BE CONTACTED IF THEY ARE A GOOD MATCH. *EXPERIENCED ADOPTER ONLY!* Lagoon is a 3.5-month-old, 2.5-pound male domestic shorthair kitten who was just introduced to indoors life a few weeks ago. He has made tremendous progress since then and definitely prefers being inside rather than being on the streets! Please note that Lagoon can be adopted as a single kitten for socialization purposes.  Lagoon loves comfy beds, bird watching, toys, and he is obsessed with food. He will approach and scream at his foster mom when she's late for breakfast. Even though Lagoon is still very cautious around humans, he lets his foster mom pet him, touch his paws, and even pick up him up during mealtime. Lagoon is NOT aggressive. He will run away in a stressful situation but will not try to bite or scratch you.  Lagoon needs an experienced cat owner who understands cat body language and is willing to give him time to adjust to a new environment and open up. This may take a few weeks to a few months. Lagoon is a special kitten who's looking for his special human. Apply on our website waggytailrescue.org if you're the one for him!   Lagoon is up to date on shots, neutered, FELv/FIV negative and microchipped. Needs rabies when of age. Maty (pronounced Maddie) is a 1-year-old, 15 + pound  (yah, she could lose a pound or two) female chihuahua mix from Tijuana. She's been in foster care with us since end of April because she was so timid. But after these 2,5 months, she is fully accepting human touch, and has learned just how much she LOVES love. Maty arrived with her brother Marco (recently adopted!!), both extremely shut down, and has made quite a transformation with tons of patience from her foster. Now, this small fox is sweet and a big fan of attention and ready for her forever home. Maty is a pure mush, loves to be pet and will roll over and show you her belly! She absolutely LOVES to eat and that's very helpful in the effort to gain her trust. Her rough past means she needs some time to open up, but trust and treats and hugs from her humans win her over. As a stray, it took weeks to be comfortable being in the same space as people, and then more weeks to accept touch. But the time allows Maty to gain confidence to then return her love tenfold. She is the sweetest and those big brown eyes will make you melt. Most of Maty's trust and confidence came from the other confident foster dogs leading the way. This really good girl will thrive in a suburban environment or quiet neighborhood, with another playful and outgoing dog, and as much as she now loves attention, he happily shares it with his fur-siblings. Crate Trained and pad-trained. Maty loves to sit in the grass and take in the birds and insects buzzing around her.  Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Spayed and heartworm negative. Needs microchip. Flea and tick prevention due 7/28. Please contact us DIRECTLY using the instructions below if you are interested in adopting one of our Waggytails! Peter is a 3-year-old, 8-pound male Chihuahua mix from Alabama and he is just the cutest .  Peter is fun loving and sweet once he's comfy with his people but when meeting strangers he  is wary and needs a bit more time with distractions, ie  treats and toys! Once he trusts you he wants nothing but your undivided attention, On that note, Peter would probably do best as an only dog or with an easy dog (not sure about cats).   He currently resides with another foster  dog who is very submissive so he dominates her and competes for attention ( another dog on the same level may not tolerate as well). Peter has great energy  -  he plays hard and rests hard but he definitely needs enrichment/activity.  He’s almost puppy like , jumping and running, but not naughty really like a young one. He enjoys lots of playtime. He loves to go outside for walks and is fully house-trained with frequent walks and holds it throughout the night.  He sleeps well, sometimes with you in bed if you allow and sometimes he likes to sleep on his own. He is independently minded :) He will alert / bark if someone is at the door or hallway.  He eats well and does fine on his own for a few hours.  Peter's ideal household would be in a dog experienced home who especially understands the chihuahua or small breeds.  No children under teenage, as he can be  mouthy with light nips, though he is definitely all bark no bite . He has some funny quirks  and this little man with his total "chihuahua-ness" sure will grow on you.  Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, lepto, and bordetella. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention due 7/27. Princess Aurelia is a 10-week-old, 2.5 pound female domestic shorthair kitten. Princess Aurelia must go to a home with another playful cat.  If purring was an Olympic sport, Princess Aurelia would win the gold medal everytime. She is a little purring machine. She's just a happy girl who loves to cuddle. She loves to lounge and relax, especially in your arms, or on your laptop or any comfortable nook she can find. She also plays well with other animals and has a feisty streak especially when she gets the zoomies with her brother! She is not very food motivated but she lives for cuddles and head scratches. In fact she's very social and will seek out your attention just for cuddles. Princess Aurelia is FELV/FIV negative, spayed, and microchipped. Vaccinated for two rounds of FVRCP. Next round due 7/31. Skylar is a 7-month-old, 10-pound chihuahua / dachshund mix from LA. Skylar can be a little shy when you first meet her, but she bonded with her foster right away. She warms up quickly and warms your heart with her sweet puppy eyes. She is playful, sweet, and affectionate; a true cuddle bug lap dog. If you hold her up by your face, she likes to snuggle her head on top of your shoulder. Skylar is protective of her family and wary of strangers, but warms up to them with time and patience; she calms down when you hold and comfort her.  Skylar loves to walk on a leash with her family. She is fearful of some of the dogs she sees outside, but loved her foster family's dog right away. She LOVES to play with toys, and cuddle up in her dog bed next to her foster fur sister. She allows her foster parents to take things away from her - no guarding at all - even taken right from her mouth! She walks well on a leash, and although she has had a few accidents, she is just about fully housebroken. She is crate-trained and sleeps in her crate all night without a peep to disturb her family.  Skylar would be a great fit for anyone looking for an older puppy -- she will need some continued basic training as a young dog, but will fit right in wherever she lands. *Skylar is being fostered in suburban NJ, so adopters should be able to meet in the suburbs, OR Hoboken or Jersey City (accessible by the PATH)* Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP, and bordetella. His foster mom says he's PERFECT at home - loves his crate, doesn't bark at the door and doesn't get into things. His favorite thing is the world is to curl up in his bed!
