Dora & Joey

The foster family has put dedication and heart into these two special kitties. They’ve been through quite a lot in their short lives thus far and here is what their foster family has to say!

“We initially met & started fostering beautiful Dora, her mom, and her siblings, when Dora was only 4 days old. She was given the name Dora because she was THE brave little explorer in a litter of 4 kittens. She entertained us for 10 weeks before being adopted.  A traumatic incident brought Dora back into our lives a few months later.  Suffering from injuries that required her left rear leg to be amputated, she rehabilitated at our house with her best pal/stepbrother Joey. It is almost impossible to believe she is a 3 legged cat.  Nothing slows her down and she can hold her own with any 4 legged cat. She has tremendous personality and will tell you about it if you give her the chance. She will tell you when she wants fed, when she wants affection or when she want to play.  Life dealt her a tough hand so she is not shy about asking for whatever she wants.  She will nuzzle into your belly and look up at you with eyes that say, “you will do what I want” and you will. She likes being carried over your shoulder, much like a human baby that is being burped, and will settle in for a cuddle, & purr quietly as you gently pet her. Since she can’t jump much, she loves to climb, esp tall cat trees positioned near windows so she watch the birds and other creatures outside. She loves to chase toys and other things, and she and her stepbrother Joey sometimes play a kitty version of “Tag” before settling in together for a quick bath & a nap.  She greets us every morning as we start our day, brushing against legs and telling us it’s time for her breakfast. She will sleep with you if you let her, but will sleep somewhere else if you don’t.  She will be interested in anything you do but will ignore you if it’s not interesting to her. She is everything that is CAT.

Joey came to us after a medical emergency brought him back to Southern Arizona Cat Rescue after he had been adopted.  A wiry, energetic young cat, he seemed unaware of his injuries and strode through life like he was here to have fun 24 hours a day. My wife and I quickly realized how special he was and took every opportunity to hold him and shower him with affection, which he immediately returned. I don’t think I have ever been as emotionally affected by a cat’s purr as I have Joey’s.   As he nuzzles and cuddles you, his purr seems to run through you like a warm river, creating soothing endorphins.  Joey’s favorite toys are his “crinkles” (plastic cellophane balls).   He will bat them around like a soccer ball, carry them in his mouth, drop them and then bat them around again. He also loves laser lights, string, catnip toys and anything else that moves. His favorite toy is his half sister, Dora. Dora was adopted with Joey and they rehabilitated together and have formed a special bond. Joey still suffers from nocturnal seizures (only when he is asleep – never while awake - and will occasionally become slightly incontinent during them.  This is a minor inconvenience in comparison to how much fun he is, how loving he is and how much joy he will bring to your life.  I know he has brought so much to my life.”

Dora and Joey are both a little over a year old, altered, current on vaccines, dewormed, microchipped, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. If you think this dynamic duo could be a purrfect addition to your family, please fill out the adoption application on our website. Feel free to also message or email (adoption@sacatrescue.org) with any questions! 🙂

Meet Honey 💛 She is not the typical cat you will see being posted with SACR. Honey is looking for a special home. Please read all of her bio to understand 🙂 Honey came to SACR from unknown curcumstances. All we knew is that a not so nice momma cat and her baby needed out of the shelter, so we took her so she could raise her baby in a safe space. Her baby has found his home and momma Honey has been working on trying to adjust to life with humans, but the truth is that she just honestly doesn’t care for humans .... and that is okay.  We can’t blame her as we assume she was once a feral cat or lived in a home where no one taught her humans are good. Our behavior specialist has spent months trying to earn her trust and we have realized she is the happiest when people arent around.  We want to give Honey the best life possible as with any SACR cat and that would be a home where she can be left to her own devices. A home where her owner doesn’t mind a cat that is 100% independent and will respect that she does not want to be touched. We know she would absolutely LOVE a home with a "catio" or an Arizona/Sun room.  We know this home is far fetched, but we know its out there somewhere. The perfect place for Miss Honey. She is about 3 years old, spayed, current on vaccines, dewormed, FIV/FELV negative, and microchipped. Please share her and help us find her perfect home!
