About Marmaduke

Adoption Fee: $250

Marmaduke is an Alaskan Malamute, born in February 2019. He weighs 90+ pounds and came to Heartland in October 2019 with his sister Mallory from a breeder who was closing his business and where he did not receive much socialization. He has learned so much in foster care: he now enjoys petting, has agreed that it’s ok to sleep indoors at night, and has turned into a dynamite leash-walker. Marmaduke is highly food motiva...ted and that has helped him learn the ‘sit’ and ‘crate’ commands and to be willing to ‘take it outdoors’ for potty activity as long as he doesn’t have to wait too long. If a treat is involved, he’s all in! Even with all this progress, he is not ready to free roam in a house and will require a contained area when inside, preferably more than just a crate. From there he can continue to learn about appropriate inside behaviors.

Marmaduke requires an adopter with breed experience and a secure physical set-up (minimum 5-foot fence, large yard, and a suitable indoor space), the determination to continue his training, and the stamina to manage and exercise this fabulous dog.

Marmaduke is nicely partnered with his littermate Mallory and a home together will be strongly preferred. Cats and small dogs are not an option and it is not clear that he (or Mallory) will accept other dogs.

All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative ( puppies age 7 months and older) and microchipped. An adult dogs is fee is $200.  There is a $5 fee for credit/debit cards.

Meet our sweet Abril! Sadly Abril is back with HSAR after the tragic loss of her dad. Poor Abril is a victim of our current pandemic. Abril is beyond heartbroken and does not understand where her dad is. She looks for him for comfort, love and companionship. Her heart is deeply broken. She desperately needs someone to help heal it. Abril is wonderful companion for any owner who is looking to add a single dog to their home. Abril seeks out pets, play time and love. She's a great leaner while you shower her with pets and lovins. Abril will impress you with her devotion and love. Our sweet Abril does require a home where she is the only dog, and definitely no cats. Despite how sweet she is, she is not a fan of other furry siblings. A secured fence is best as well.  Abril will ask that you help her with her fear of loud noises and fireworks, and in exchange she'll shower you with love and devotion.  You won't be disappointed when you fill out your application for this wonderful girl. Can you help heal her broken heart? Abril is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $200. If you are interested in Abril, please email dogs@heartlandsmallanimalrescue.org or you can access an online application at www.heartlandsmallanimalrescue.org/canine-application.html show less

They are good climbers, are curious and like to interact with people. They live approx. 2-3 years and do best with a cagemate of the same gender.  They need a habitat with a solid surface and prefer a multi-level home.  A habitat should be large enough for a food dish, water bottle, a hiding house and climbing toys.  Solid surface exercise wheels can be used. Their front teeth never stop growing so they need chew toys. show less

Hi there! My name is Atlanta, (Allie for short), and I am a young, exuberant girl! My friends at Heartland rescued me from a bad situation back in March. I was scared, emaciated and pregnant and they took me in. Soon after I arrived I had my babies. My foster mom took wonderful care of me and my babies. With regular meals and a lot of love, I gained weight and was able to care for my babies. They have all been adopted and now it is my turn!  I love to play and am good with other dogs. As a hound I love to follow my nose, so long walks on nature trails would be AWESOME!! Also as a hound, cats remind me too much of the bunnies and squirrels that I like to hunt – so I can’t live in a home with cats. I am a sweet, playful and affectionate girl that deserves a second chance at a loving home of my own. I hope that is you! Please apply today. If you are viewing this pet's profile on Petfinder or Adopt-a-Pet,.please use the application link at the bottom of the profile to apply. Clicking the "Ask About" button does not submit an application. It only submits a question which will delay an application submission.    All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative (age 7 months and older) and microchipped. We do not ship or transport. A dog's adoption donation is $200. There is a $5 fee for credit/debit cards.
