About Copeland (Has Application)

Adoption Fee: $450 for Adult Dogs and Puppies

Name: Copeland
Suspected Breed(s): Shepherd mix
Gender: Male
Age: 4 years old
Weight: 74 lbs
Personality: Quick learner, playful, funny, outgoing, affectionate, goofy, snuggler, eager to please
Observations with Dogs: Copeland gets along with most dogs. As with all dogs, a proper introduction (like parallel walks prior to an off-leash intro) is a great way to help with canine harmony! He would love a home with a large dog to play with in the yard.
Observations with Cats: Untested
Observations with Kids: Copeland doesn’t have a lot of experience with children, but he’s been excited to see the kids he's met and done well with them.
House Training Progress: No accidents
Crate Training Progress: Quiet in his crate
Location: Suburban Virginia
Rescued From: Roane County, WV
Additional Information: Copeland is a silly, fun, and loving dog. He is super playful and pounces on toys like a panther. This good dog is goofy, happy, and inquisitive, much like his pup look-alike, Scooby Doo. Do you see it? Because we sure Scooby Dooby Do in this good-looking guy! Copeland has had the great opportunity to be staying with a trainer, and she reports that he loves to learn! He knows "let's go," "sit," "go to mat," "trade," "go get it," and "come." Like most dogs, he'd love a person who wants to continue to use positive training to engage him. Getting treats for winning your approval and being a good boy is Copeland's favorite part of life!

Copeland is leash reactive (meaning he barks on leash) so isn’t a great fit for the city, but he would make a terrific companion for someone with a house and yard for him to play in. Copeland is very loyal and bonds deeply with his caregivers — it would be hard to find a more affectionate and trusting dog than Copeland to be your next furry friend. He also enjoys making other human and canine friends. His best friend is a large female Malinois, but he’s spent time around dogs large and small and might love a canine companion to romp with in his new home. Apply today to meet handsome Copeland!

Rocket

Name: Rocket Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: Female Age: 3 months (as of 8/30/22) Weight: 3lbs Personality: Friendly, Easygoing, Adventurous, Curious, Playful, Energetic Observations with Dogs: Unknown Observations with Cats: Good with other cats and plays Observations with Kids: Unknown House Training Progress: Almost there on the litterbox  Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: NJ Additional Information: Rocket's personality is solid kitten. Everything is playful and fun to her. She's super curious about people and cats, always greets her foster human at the door, and likes to watch her older foster sibling cat and occasionally try to play (sometimes rebuffed, but is a good sport about it and then leaves her alone). Rocket can play by herself for hours at a time and play with just about anything. Ah, to be at the age where EVERYTHING is a toy! She is in kitten mode and will nip at/play with hands but it isn't aggressive. Rocket does like to sleep close to her human and sometimes in their arms, and once Rocket is out of constant kitten play mode, she has serious potential to be an affectionate snuggler. Rocket also really likes to watch her human and greet her and follow her around from room to room; any way to spend time with her human is a win in Rocket's book! Adopters should know that Rocket has moderate Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), which is a neuological disorder that makes her wobbly, but she doesn't seem to mind it. Because of the CH, she'd be best in a home without stairs or agressive cats, and she needs a human who is willing to give her almost daily mini baths (depending on her wobbles, she sometimes tips into her wet food or tips over in the litterbox, but she actually enjoys being cleaned by her human!). Despite her wobbles, she is a wonderful, delightful cat who doesn't let CH hold her back! Do you have the love and patience to adopt Rocket into your home?  Rocket's rescue was generously sponsored by Kelly Keiths. The kittens have age-appropriate vetting to date, which includes a veterinary exam, deworming, microchip, and the first FVRCP vaccine. An adopter will need to agree to cover costs of spay/neuter when he/she is age-appropriate (usually 16-20 weeks) and will need to continue his/her kitten vaccines (including rabies) as he/she grows older. Kittens under 12 weeks of age must be adopted in pairs or to a home with friendly resident feline. They will not be considered as singles. Not only does this girl have stellar looks, she has a stellar personality to go along with them. Rye's foster mom descriobes her as an affectionate, curious, and energetic cat. She is very friendly and brave and will happily greet guests to your home. She loves chasing fake (and real!) mice and is always ready to play. She's always interested in what you're doing and loves being part of "the crew." Despite being an active cat, Rye takes lots of naps, and her preferred spot is on your lap! She's a perfect little buddy to have around the house. She is not picky about food or litter brands, and behaves very well in new places and at the vet's. Rye's just a solidly confident cat who believes that strangers are merely laps she hasn't yet visited. Do you have a lap and room for Rye to zoom around? Don't make her wait, apply today! If you’re looking for a sweet, cuddly lap cat, as your new best friend, apply today to bring Rye home! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Scar Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: Male Age: 2 years Weight: 11 lbs Personality: Snuggler, Affectionate, Gentle, Friendly, Adventurous, Easygoing, Curious, Playful, Vocal Observations with Dogs: Doesn't care for dogs Observations with Cats:  Ignores and gentle with cats Observations with Kids: Unknown House Training Progress:  Good litter box manners Location: DC area foster home  Rescued From:  Bladen County, NC Additional Information:   Scar is a happy, content, laid-back cat. Dude just wants to chill out, man! Scar is a great, easygoing boy who is grateful for the food and the love. He's super friendly, likes people (he's figured out more people = more pets), and is curious, but he isn’t very high-energy. In fact, Scar spends most of his energy either scratching his horizontal cat scratcher with abandon or demanding that you pet him and give him attention. He likes to play once or twice a day, and he'll let you know it's play time by bringing you the feather wand or a ball in his mouth. A sure way to win Scar's heart is to break out the cat brush. He thinks being brushed is the BEST THING EVER and absolutely loses his mind purring. When all the affection is said and done, Scar will simply lay down nearby to rest to his heart’s content, or he might lean right up against you and take a little nap. He will perk up if he sees you heading to the kitchen and will follow and chat with you to see what's happening in the food department. In addition to his magnetic personality, it is easy to fall in love with Scar’s unique style – he’s a little bit tuxedo with a funny face and big tomcat cheeks, some “character” on his nose and ears, and then a cute little bald spot on the back of his neck. (Check out how handsome he is in his photos!). Finally, Scar has a quiet trill and he can have a good conversation or pep talk with you when it’s needed. So, are you looking for a loving, well mannered, and easygoing feline friend? Apply to adopt Scar! You and this dude can chill out together! ________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Scarlet’s tan and black tortoiseshell fur and bright yellow-green eyes really are the cat’s meow. Scarlet is also a Manx cat, which means instead of a tail, she has a cute little nub on her round rump. But looks aren’t all there is to love about Scarlet. In no time, you’ll become putty in the palm of Scarlet’s paws after she charms you with her winning personality. Scarlet is a friendly cat. She is always down to sit and hang with you—unless she is preoccupied looking out the window at the neighborhood squirrels and birds. Whenever Scarlet’s foster family has a few guests over, Scarlet is sure to greet them. She's also quite curious, and will immediately investigate a new box or bag that has appeared on the ground. Scarlet would surely have a blast exploring your home and finding the coziest spots for napping. Scarlet is pretty low-energy for most of the day, but she loves to have some playtime in the morning and before bed. In particular, Scarlet enjoys batting fake mice about and playing with wiggling string (she’ll need your help with the wiggling part!). If it sounds like sweet Scarlet would be the purr-fect addition to your family, please complete an adoption application today! ________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.  Cat specific: Rabies, FVRCP, Feline Leukemia vaccines. They are tested for FIV and FeLV, when age appropriate, but not when born to a negative mother in foster care.  Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. Name: Smokie Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: Male Age: 1 year Weight: 8lbs Personality: Shy, Friendly, Energetic, Dominant, Vocal Observations with Dogs: Unknown Observations with Cats: Best as an only cat Observations with Kids: Unknown House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: Meet Smokie, nicknamed “Peeps” by his foster family due to his sweet little voice. Smokie is the type of cat who will tell you all about his day over dinner. He will regularly bound into the room when you're home to share his latest updates. (“Oh my gosh! You’ll never believe it! I saw a squirrel outside the window.” and “There was a dust bunny under the bed. But fear not, I vanquished it!”) You will always be entertained by this hilarious cutie’s antics and stories. Although Smokie may be a bit timid at first, if you’re lucky enough to be chosen as his favorite person, Smokie will adorably nap right next to you and endearingly ask for affection. You’ll be powerless to resist his requests after one look into Smokie’s gorgeous yellow eyes. Though he’s fully grown, Smokie’s a compact little ball of attitude with silky black fur and a cute little white spot on his belly and in each of his front armpits. Smokie has very good manners when it comes to the litter box and the scratching post. We think he would probably be happiest as a solo pet without other cats around. If it sounds like happy, chatty, handsome Smokie would be the purr-fect addition to your family, please complete an adoption application today! ________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Socks

Name: Socks Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: female Age: 12 years Weight: 10lbs Personality: Snuggler, Quiet, Gentle, Curious, Independent Observations with Dogs: Unknown Observations with Cats: Good with calm cats Observations with Kids: Gentle with older children House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Alexandria, Va Additional Information: Having been rescued from a home that didn't understand her needs, snappy dresser Socks is looking for a forever home where she can be a pampered house cat with a patient owner. Socks is sweet and curious and wants to explore at her own pace; too much noise or people trying to handle her overstimulates her. But once she gets comfortable with you, she's all in and will greet you with purrs. Quiet, she wears a bell so you can find her when she's sleeping someplace secret, like in the back of your closet or behind the couch. Socks will never turn down an invitation to cuddle; she's not a lap cat, but wants to snuggle next to you in bed or on the couch. She likes soft, slow pets, gazing out the window watching people and birds, and once she discovers how cozy your bed is, you'll often find her there. Socks has a youthful spirit and absolutely loves catnip kicker toys. She also likes plushie mice she can bat around. She's tolerant of lower energy cats that aren't into rough housing, and with older kids who aren't grabby. Fishy foods are her favorite. Spice Kitten: Chive

Domestic Short Hair

Name: Chive Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: male Age: 3 months (as of 9/1/22) Weight: 3lbs Personality: Friendly, Adventurous, Curious,... show more

Name: Chive Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: male Age: 3 months (as of 9/1/22) Weight: 3lbs Personality: Friendly, Adventurous, Curious, Playful, Energetic, Independent Observations with Dogs: Unknown Observations with Cats: Enjoys playing with his siblings Observations with Kids: Unknown House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: Chive is a spunky, adorable ginger-and-white tabby who is happiest when tearing after his brothers and sisters around their foster home, playing rock-climber on a cat tree, attacking his fur mouse, or chasing a feather wand. When playtime is over, however, Chive comes for pets and scratches or finds a quiet corner away from activities for a long, well-earned nap. This friendly, adventurous, and curious fellow is gonna grow into being a spectacular cat! Once Chive has had some serious playtime, he calms down and comes up for pets and scratches. He would benefit from a home where he can get his fill of playing, but then spend time enjoying some closeness. Though he is very active, he also has BIG potential to be a well-balanced, independent, and affectionate adult. This guy has excellent litter box manners, is an easy eater, and needs just the usual amount of training to prevent scratching your furniture. He hasn’t met any other cats outside his littermates, but his interactions with siblings suggest he’s going to be a personable little fellow with other cats and dogs in your home. He’s generally a confident, comfortable, and friendly little guy. Looking for your first or next big sweetie pie? This could be your guy! Apply today! If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon.
