About Copeland (Has Application)

Adoption Fee: $450 for Adult Dogs and Puppies

Name: Copeland
Suspected Breed(s): Shepherd mix
Gender: Male
Age: 4 years old
Weight: 74 lbs
Personality: Quick learner, playful, funny, outgoing, affectionate, goofy, snuggler, eager to please
Observations with Dogs: Copeland gets along with most dogs. As with all dogs, a proper introduction (like parallel walks prior to an off-leash intro) is a great way to help with canine harmony! He would love a home with a large dog to play with in the yard.
Observations with Cats: Untested
Observations with Kids: Copeland doesn’t have a lot of experience with children, but he’s been excited to see the kids he's met and done well with them.
House Training Progress: No accidents
Crate Training Progress: Quiet in his crate
Location: Suburban Virginia
Rescued From: Roane County, WV
Additional Information: Copeland is a silly, fun, and loving dog. He is super playful and pounces on toys like a panther. This good dog is goofy, happy, and inquisitive, much like his pup look-alike, Scooby Doo. Do you see it? Because we sure Scooby Dooby Do in this good-looking guy! Copeland has had the great opportunity to be staying with a trainer, and she reports that he loves to learn! He knows "let's go," "sit," "go to mat," "trade," "go get it," and "come." Like most dogs, he'd love a person who wants to continue to use positive training to engage him. Getting treats for winning your approval and being a good boy is Copeland's favorite part of life!

Copeland is leash reactive (meaning he barks on leash) so isn’t a great fit for the city, but he would make a terrific companion for someone with a house and yard for him to play in. Copeland is very loyal and bonds deeply with his caregivers — it would be hard to find a more affectionate and trusting dog than Copeland to be your next furry friend. He also enjoys making other human and canine friends. His best friend is a large female Malinois, but he’s spent time around dogs large and small and might love a canine companion to romp with in his new home. Apply today to meet handsome Copeland!

Name: Hannah Suspected Breed(s): Bulldog mix Gender: Female Age: 1 year Weight: 45 lbs Personality: Affectionate, sweet, playful, confident, smart, energetic, eager-to-please, adventurous, outgoing, goofy/funny, independent, rambunctious, and snuggler. Observations with Dogs: Hannah loves to run and play with the resident dogs in her foster home. She is learning their cues on when they are not interested in playing with her. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Hannah is learning not to jump up with love or play nibble, so until she has more training she would do best in a home without young children. House Training Progress: No recent accidents Crate Training Progress: Untested Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: Smiley Hannah can't wait to be your new BFF! We have it on good authority that this happy gal is an absolute gem; she wants to be everyone's best friend and is always eager to give out hugs and snuggles. Whether you're her human or a guest that's just walked through the door, Hannah will never hesitate to shower you with love and affection! (with the occasional gentle reminder that we play differently with humans than with dogs.) Hannah's smile can literally light up a room, and her love of life is completely contagious!  Some of Hannah's favorite activities, in no particular order, are her daily walks, hanging out with the resident dogs in her foster home, and playing with her carefully curated selection of toys. She will also never turn down a chance to frolic at the dog park or play a spirited game of fetch! This playful girl has lots of puppy energy and is always looking for entertainment and fun. Hannah is a smart gal who has been fine-tuning her house manners well, and she is mostly trusted to roam and explore in her foster home, though she sometimes forgets that household items aren't her chew toys (well, not all of them, at least). However, she is very toy and treat motivated and has responded well to correction. Above all, Hannah is very eager-to-please and wants to show her people how much she adores them! Hannah will bring so much joy and love into your life, and is looking for that in return. This little guy is a little timid at first but is super gentle and relaxed once he opens up. Hector likes to sit with you and follow you while you do stuff and loves it when you take the time to play with him. Hector gently says hi to you by slowly rubbing his face on your hand and he likes gentle pets and slow, relaxed movements from his people. He loves to hang, and he has shown no aggressive behavior near people or other cats. He'll let you give him belly rubs and will stretch out his paws and do some air kneading to tell you thank you. When people come over, Hector likes to sit on the couch with them. In his free time, he looks out the window, meows at you if you talk to him, and sleeps in stretched out positions. Applications are screened for the best possible fit for a puppy home. In case your puppy of interest already has an application in progress, please select other dogs of interest on your application. We do not adopt more than one puppy at a time to a single home. Ready to apply? Please review our Puppy Primer to make sure you're ready to make this life-changing decision.  Name: Hera Suspected Breed(s): Lab Mix Gender: Female Estimated DOB: 07/12/2022 Weight: 8.2 lbs as of 09/21/2022 Personality: Puppy! Goofy, playful, brave, adventurous, eager-to-please, affectionate, and adaptable. Observations with Dogs: Good with other dogs: Hera is respectful of the older, somewhat grumpy, resident dog. Observations with Cats: Untested Observations with Kids: Untested House Training Progress: Puppy who will need continued work on house training. Crate Training Progress: Puppy who will need continued work on crate training Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Puerto Rico Additional Information: Hera is a confident puppy who loves people! Although she is a young girl with a lot to learn, Hera already sits on her own for food and treats. She has made great progress curbing typical puppy behaviors like nipping and is working on crate training and house training. (It helps that she’s very motivated by treats!) Hera also respects her canine foster sibling’s space and follows the larger dog’s lead on whether it’s ok to play. Hera is an expert snuggler who loves to hang out with her foster family. She currently sleeps through the night in her crate as long as she has a blanket to keep her warm. Hera also has a silly streak, and will hop around like a bunny when she is excited or in the mood to play. Apply today to meet Hera! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDCK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.  Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella and Leptospirosis vaccines (as age appropriate). Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less

Name: Holmes Suspected Breed(s): Mixed Breed Gender: Male Age: 11 months old Weight: 54lbs Personality: Smart, loyal, goofy/funny, outgoing, affectionate, rambunctious, playful, eager-to-please, energetic and food-motivated. Observations with Dogs: Holmes is a fan of other dogs, and he is a popular guy at the dog park. Observations with Cats: Holmes does well with the resident cat in his foster home — he’s curious but takes direction well about whether to approach. He eventually figured out that bringing balls to the cat tree did not mean the cat would agree to play.  Observations with Kids: Holmes is good with children he meets while out on walks but may be a little too exuberant for young children in the home, as he loves to play and doesn't understand his size just yet. House Training Progress: No recent accidents.  Crate Training Progress: Holmes is doing great with crate training — he’s crated overnight and can be in his crate for 2-3 hours at a time during the day. Sometimes he’ll hang out in his crate when there’s nothing more exciting happening around him! Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Smyth County, VA Additional Information: Holmes is a bundle of love in the form of a puppy! This velvety, sweet, gentle ball of fluff shadow will gladly be your right-hand man, and maybe even get some pets or treats while he’s at it! Holmes is full of curiosity and is eager to learn. Like another great Holmes (Sherlock), this darling dog is extremely clever. This smart boy already knows “sit,” “down,” “go to bed,” and even lets his foster family know when he needs to go outside for the bathroom! Holmes is ready to learn even more, and as a foodie, can’t wait for more tricks and treats! He especially loves a kong filled with peanut butter (yum) and similar enrichment toys. Holmes is a very playful guy who embodies the “good vibes only” happy puppy energy! This goofball LOVES to play fetch, and especially enjoys a game of tug-of-war. Holmes is always ready to grab a toy and keep playing and likes to ask for belly rubs after a good play session. Apart from playtime at the house, Holmes also enjoys long walks and would be a great hiking companion or running companion as he knows how to keep it moving. Holmes does great when meeting other people and dogs, and especially enjoys running around in circles with his friends at the dog park. Holmes also knows when it’s time to relax and even takes naps in his crate all on his own. This sweet boy is a great cuddler who will gladly snuggle up to you on the couch while you watch TV or work! Holmes is looking for a home with someone who has time to play, exercise, and provide mental stimulation, as well as some help with training for walks.
