About Copeland (Has Application)

Adoption Fee: $450 for Adult Dogs and Puppies

Name: Copeland
Suspected Breed(s): Shepherd mix
Gender: Male
Age: 4 years old
Weight: 74 lbs
Personality: Quick learner, playful, funny, outgoing, affectionate, goofy, snuggler, eager to please
Observations with Dogs: Copeland gets along with most dogs. As with all dogs, a proper introduction (like parallel walks prior to an off-leash intro) is a great way to help with canine harmony! He would love a home with a large dog to play with in the yard.
Observations with Cats: Untested
Observations with Kids: Copeland doesn’t have a lot of experience with children, but he’s been excited to see the kids he's met and done well with them.
House Training Progress: No accidents
Crate Training Progress: Quiet in his crate
Location: Suburban Virginia
Rescued From: Roane County, WV
Additional Information: Copeland is a silly, fun, and loving dog. He is super playful and pounces on toys like a panther. This good dog is goofy, happy, and inquisitive, much like his pup look-alike, Scooby Doo. Do you see it? Because we sure Scooby Dooby Do in this good-looking guy! Copeland has had the great opportunity to be staying with a trainer, and she reports that he loves to learn! He knows "let's go," "sit," "go to mat," "trade," "go get it," and "come." Like most dogs, he'd love a person who wants to continue to use positive training to engage him. Getting treats for winning your approval and being a good boy is Copeland's favorite part of life!

Copeland is leash reactive (meaning he barks on leash) so isn’t a great fit for the city, but he would make a terrific companion for someone with a house and yard for him to play in. Copeland is very loyal and bonds deeply with his caregivers — it would be hard to find a more affectionate and trusting dog than Copeland to be your next furry friend. He also enjoys making other human and canine friends. His best friend is a large female Malinois, but he’s spent time around dogs large and small and might love a canine companion to romp with in his new home. Apply today to meet handsome Copeland!

Name: Katana Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: Female Age: 10 months Weight: 7 lbs Personality: shy, curious, playful, energetic, independent Observations with Dogs: Unknown Observations with Cats: Good with other cats and plays Observations with Kids: Gentle with kids House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Smyth County, VA Additional Information: We’d like you to meet Katana, a playful girl who loves to have fun and explore the world around her! Katana enjoys running around and having adventures with her foster family’s two resident felines, whom she won over very quickly. But as much as she enjoys the company of other cats, Katana also has an independent side. She is a curious kitty who would surely have a blast exploring your home and finding the coziest spots for napping. Katana cannot resist pouncing on toys that move – like lasers, wand toys, and wiggling strings – sometimes hiding behind a piece of furniture and then popping out in the most adorable sneak attack you’ve ever seen. Although she can be active and playful, Katana can also be very elegant and dignified. She strikes plenty of gorgeous poses, but she won’t hold still for the camera for long. Sometimes she’ll roll on her back and ask for a belly rub too. At the end of the day, Katana would love to curl up on the couch near you or play a gentle game of “What the heck is that thing under the blanket!?” with your feet before bed. And did we mention how gorgeous this girl is? Katana’s tortoiseshell coat and bright yellow-green eyes really are the cat’s meow. If it sounds like Katana would be the purr-fect addition to your family, please complete an adoption application today! ________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. She is quite the athlete, who will leap high and twist to catch her wand toys. Her favorite toy of all is a circular scrap of paper from a bottle wrapper, which she likes to bat and chase around and thus entertain herself for half an hour. When it's rest time, she'll curl up in her favorite armchair to snooze and receive pets. When she wants attention, Keko will vocalize a long series of mrrps and blrrps to get some pets or playtime! Long pets on the back and head and chin scratches will all have her purring. When in the mood, she will knead her humans' tummies and nuzzle their cheeks with her wet nose. Keko is very gentle and has never used her teeth or claws on her fosters, even a somewhat grabby 10 year old. Keko would be a great addition to your home. Apply today! ________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. That right there, dear readers is an amazing endorsement from a foster who has had fostered more cats than she can count. What else? The foster also reports that Lance absolutely loves humans. Like LOVES them. Other cats are great and wonderful, and he's affectionate toward them, but he loves loves loves humans. He loves laps. He loves climbing on your neck and back and draping himself around your neck like a scarf. He loves to lay on your chest. He'll kiss your hands. He'll come up to you and put his paws on you and ask to be picked up. Lance is not a big purrer, but you can rest assured that he loves you and everything about you. Lance came to CDCKR when his owner died, and all he wants is a new home with a new human to love. Could that be you? They will not be considered as singles. ________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. Apply for a CAT: www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adopt-a-city-kitty.html City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is a foster based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us.  Cat specific: Rabies, FVRCP, Feline Leukemia vaccines. They are tested for FIV and FeLV, when age appropriate, but not when born to a negative mother in foster care.  Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. show less

Malcolm

Domestic Short Hair

Name: Malcolm Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: Male Age: 3 months (as of 9/11/22) Weight: 3lbs Personality: Snuggler, Affectionate, Gentle, Friendly, Easygoing, Curious, Vocal Observations with Dogs: Unknown Observations with Cats: Good with other cats and plays Observations with Kids: Gentle with kids; if younger, best with cat-savvy, gentle kids House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Smyth County, VA  Additional Information: Malcolm would like to know if you might have a comfy lap for snuggling in. Or a kitty he could cuddle up to. They are both his favorite things in all the world. He only asks politely, of course, because that's the kind of boy he is. This gentle little guy wants nothing more than snuggles and pets, though he's now learning how to play with crinkly toys. Please don't throw them, though—he likes to find and bat them on his own terms. Malcolm can be chatty, especially when he expresses his dismay at trying to play with the other kitties when they don't want to play...and they let him know. (It's the closest to outrage that Malcolm gets.) Mostly, you'll find Malcolm in a sunny spot, near one of the big kitties, in a lap, or on the back of the couch, curled into a tight ball. He loves a Churu, is good with his litter box, and is kid-friendly, at least with the 6-9 year old set who are good and gentle with kitties. He'd be happiest and most secure in a home with another friendly kitty. This sweet boy is ready to give you his whole heart, make all the biscuits for you, and give you all the outsized purrs. Are you ready for that much love? If so, apply today for Malcolm! If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon.
