About Copeland (Has Application)

Adoption Fee: $450 for Adult Dogs and Puppies

Name: Copeland
Suspected Breed(s): Shepherd mix
Gender: Male
Age: 4 years old
Weight: 74 lbs
Personality: Quick learner, playful, funny, outgoing, affectionate, goofy, snuggler, eager to please
Observations with Dogs: Copeland gets along with most dogs. As with all dogs, a proper introduction (like parallel walks prior to an off-leash intro) is a great way to help with canine harmony! He would love a home with a large dog to play with in the yard.
Observations with Cats: Untested
Observations with Kids: Copeland doesn’t have a lot of experience with children, but he’s been excited to see the kids he's met and done well with them.
House Training Progress: No accidents
Crate Training Progress: Quiet in his crate
Location: Suburban Virginia
Rescued From: Roane County, WV
Additional Information: Copeland is a silly, fun, and loving dog. He is super playful and pounces on toys like a panther. This good dog is goofy, happy, and inquisitive, much like his pup look-alike, Scooby Doo. Do you see it? Because we sure Scooby Dooby Do in this good-looking guy! Copeland has had the great opportunity to be staying with a trainer, and she reports that he loves to learn! He knows "let's go," "sit," "go to mat," "trade," "go get it," and "come." Like most dogs, he'd love a person who wants to continue to use positive training to engage him. Getting treats for winning your approval and being a good boy is Copeland's favorite part of life!

Copeland is leash reactive (meaning he barks on leash) so isn’t a great fit for the city, but he would make a terrific companion for someone with a house and yard for him to play in. Copeland is very loyal and bonds deeply with his caregivers — it would be hard to find a more affectionate and trusting dog than Copeland to be your next furry friend. He also enjoys making other human and canine friends. His best friend is a large female Malinois, but he’s spent time around dogs large and small and might love a canine companion to romp with in his new home. Apply today to meet handsome Copeland!

He's a playful guy, but he doesn't require much structured playtime every day. One of his favorite activities is play-fighting with Tigerlily, which helps keep both of them in tip-top shape. Sam is known to be an "aggressive snuggler," so get ready to love and be loved when this dude says it's time to cuddle. A person once remarked that he "probably was a bird in his previous life," so he's likely the closest you'll get to having a griffin in your home! Sam and Tigerlily absolutely adore catnip toys, so be sure to stock up on those. Like all pretty kitties, she expects you to dole out compliments along with kisses. In return, she'll purr and snuggle to express her gratitude. Although she's energetic, she doesn't require a large time investment for play. She's an excellent communicator who will gladly remind you when it's mealtime. If she wants to be petted, she'll raise her adorable little paws to draw you in while her soulful eyes speak to your heart. Name: Brian Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: male Age: 3 months (born 6/11/22) Weight: 3lbs Personality: Affectionate, Friendly, Easygoing, Adventurous, Curious, Playful, Energetic, Independent, Smart, Vocal Observations with Dogs: Unknown Observations with Cats: Good with other cats and plays; best with a feline companion Observations with Kids: Ambivalent with kids House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Smyth County, VA Additional Information: Brian has two speeds: play and cuddle, and he is equally committed to both, with his whole heart. One moment, his favorite thing is to chase anything that crinkles. If you throw a toy for him, he'll joyfully race after it. But he can make his own fun, too, by shoving the toy along with his front paws and chasing it. The next moment, with a tiny chirp, he'll land in your lap, curl up, and nap hard. You can help him make that transition (sometimes) by tucking him into the crook of your arm and watching his eyes get heavy. Other times, he'll chase your hand like the toy it could be. Come on, you know it could be... He loves all other kitties, big/small, old/young, and is good at gauging how much older kitties (don't) want to play with him. With other littles, he likes roughhousing, but is easily distracted by a toy. Beautiful Brian is great with the litter box, his wet food, CHURUS, toys, all the people, and all the kitties. He's an energetic little guy who needs a kitty buddy to work that energy off with (you'll be SO HAPPY he has a buddy). He's been around kids who are good with cats, and just likes to play, but his play can be a litte bitey, so he might not be best suited for very small kids. He's such a good boy who's waiting for the good person who'll love him forever. He thinks that could be you. Apply today for sweet Brian! Brian's rescue was generously sponsored by Jessie and Kim Hillenbrand in memory of Brian T. Dog Teich. He especially likes playing with his toys at night and will leave them scattered around the apartment for you to find in the morning. Bruno is fine being picked up but doesn't care to be coddled like a baby, and his preferred sleeping spot is tucked in a cozy cave, like under the bed. Are you looking for this type of affectionate-but-not-totally-needy buddy to share your home? Then Bruno is your guy! Name: Callie (fka Tilly) Suspected Breed(s): Lab mix Gender: Female Age: 2 years old Weight: 50 lbs Personality: Goofy, quick learner, playful, funny, snuggler, eager to please, energetic, loyal, outgoing, affectionate, smart, and calm. Observations with Dogs: Callie likes to play with some dogs but would be best as an only dog to soak up all the limelight!  Observations with Cats: Would do best in a home without cats.  Observations with Kids: Would do best in a home without young children, as she can be shy and anxious around new people and might become overwhelmed. House Training Progress: No accidents. Crate Training Progress: Callie enjoys spending time in her crate during the day with the door open and quiets quickly when the door is shut. Location: DC area foster Rescued From: Galax County, Virginia Additional Information: Looking for a new best friend? Then 2-year-old Callie just may be your girl! Callie is as loving and devoted as she is fun; she loves napping all cuddled up next to you, but given the chance she would also have the time of her life soaking up the sunshine and sniffing all the daisies. Most days though, she is more than content to stick by your side and show you what devotion really looks like.  At the end of a long day, Callie will greet you enthusiastically with tail wags, wiggles, and kisses. This gal's happy and up-for-anything personality is quick to steal hearts and also makes her the perfect work-from-home companion. Callie loves to play with her toys, go on walks, and zoom around outside, but she is also content to snooze on the couch and snuggle. Have we mentioned that Callie also lives for learning new tricks? This girl knows “come,” “sit,” “stay,” like a champ and is continuing to learn “leave it.”  Callie likes to play with some dogs, but is looking to live that "only dog" life (aka a single-pet home) where she can have all the attention of her humans. Callie's future human can expect all of her devotion in return. Although Callie wants to be the only pet in your home, we can assure you that her heart brings the love of 10 dogs to the table! Apply today to meet this special girl! __________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. Name: Car Kitten: Camaro Suspected Breed(s): DSH Gender: Male Age: 3 months Weight: 3 lbs Personality: snuggler, quiet, shy, gentle, submissive, low-energy Observations with Dogs: No observations Observations with Cats: Would do best with a kitty buddy Observations with Kids: Afraid of kids House Training Progress: Good litterbox manners Location: DC area foster home Rescued From: Bladen County, NC Additional Information: At the end of a long day, wouldn’t it be great to have a kitten who’ll stay in your lap for as long as you’ll pet him? That’s sweetheart Camaro. He’s all the kitten with none of the kitten crazy. This shy baby just needs some time to feel safe enough to come out of his shell. Once he’s comfortable, he’s up for playtime, snuggle time, and lounge in the sun time. Camaro is all about his brothers: you’ll nearly always find him piled on top of at least one of them; he’s also very curious about the big resident kitties. Mainly, he needs a kitty buddy to help him be brave (and just look at the gorgeous Car Kittens who’d be wonderful buddies for him!). He’s also ALL about his catnip mouse with—wait for it—a curly blue ribbon tail. And, when his playtime and your work time is done, he’ll be back in your lap, purring like crazy, and making kitten biscuits. To have that kind of day, every day, set up a time to meet this sweetest of all kitties. Camaro thanks you in advance.  ________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application.
