About Rose

Adoption Fee: $400

Rose is a 2.5 year old bouncy, happy Sheepadoodle weighing 68 lbs. She has been around MANY dogs while in her foster home and is playful with all, big and small. She LOVES to run with other dogs - by far her favorite game. She does not know her size & has the tendency to be a little overbearing with small dogs. She is mostly respectful of dogs who do not want to play with her, but needs to occasionally be reminded. She has not been cat tested. Rose will thrive in a home committed to working on her manners and self improvement (wouldn't we all), and will need work on building confidence with new people as she can be a little shy at first but warms up quickly. Rose is great riding in a crate in the car and will try to lay in lap if let into the front seat so a crate or seatbelt is needed. Rose Will REQUIRE regular grooming appointments and daily brushing. She has a LOT of hair that will mat if left ungroomed. Her coat was not long when she came to us & it took a couple of days to remove all the mats / trim up her legs. Experience with long haired breeds or finances for grooming will need to be considered. Rose is always very sweet, always wants to be around her people and will reward an amazing family with her playful antics and fun loving nature.  Due to her bouncy nature, an adult home or with older dog savvy kids only will be considered.

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.

*/*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter.

*****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****

Ankara is a true Anatolian girl. She is a smart 1 year old, quick to react and wants to control the situation. She loves observing her surroundings and she loves life on her terms. She is kind, but stongwilled and willing to cuddle at the same time. True to breed, Ankara can be a pushy female, so she should be in an environment where the other dogs will not challenge her. She is much more tolerant of large breed males. She enjoys independent play and patrolling the perimeter, and likes having a job. We are looking for a home with Livestock Guardian Dog experience to best suit Ankara's needs.  At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. Arthur is a wonderful, happy, playful and loving Doxie puppy who is good with dogs, cats, and people, and so far even chickens. He is all love and snuggles, but has a lot of energy that needs to be worked mentally and physically, and is going to make an active family very happy. Arthur will absolutely need a job, so are looking for an active family who understands enrichment, and that an adolescent pup needs appropriate boundaries.  Please Note: while Arthur has so much love to give, he is a VERY active Doxie. He plays disc and runs with the big dogs. With proper training he will do amazing things and give so much, but he is not your average lap Doxie. Benny is a mixed breed handsome fella about 4 years old who prefers a quieter home and does best as an only-dog. He prefers to meet new people outside first and then does well with them inside. He is very cuddly to his people and enjoys car rides and adventures. He loves lounging in the sunshine, barking at the deer in the field, and getting the zoomies all around his yard. He's a country boy at heart and would prefer the quieter life in the country. Apartment life and busy city life is not for him.  He should go to a home with older kids and no other dogs. He has been cat-indifferent so far. Benny is available to adopt through Green Dogs Unleashed. At the time you are seeing this post, Benny is still available for adoption. Meet Evie, a courageous survivor from the heart-wrenching hoarding case in North Carolina where we took in 20 dogs. Alongside her companions, she endured unspeakable hardships before finding her way to us through HSUS. In just a few weeks, these resilient pups have made incredible strides on their journey to recovery. Like her fellow survivors, Evie is a shy and soft-spoken girl. She's seeking a forever home filled with boundless love and unwavering patience. When faced with stress, her natural response is to freeze, underscoring her need for time and a dedicated owner committed to helping her rebuild trust in humans and the world around her. Evie's sweetness knows no bounds, and her foster family describes her as one of the easiest dogs they've ever cared for. She thrives in a tranquil environment, making her best suited for a peaceful home without small children, as sudden movements can make her a bit apprehensive, but she has proven to do well loving affection from older quieter kids. Evie adores human attention and revels in the joy of being petted. She exhibits a preference for the company of women, although she's gradually warming up to her foster dad, even challenging him to spirited games of tug-of-war when playtime strikes. This gentle girl moves at her own pace and is diligently learning the art of leash walking. House training has been a breeze, as she's proven to be a star pupil in this regard. Evie is deserving of a patient and understanding adoptive family who can appreciate the lasting effects of her past trauma. If you're ready to be the warm and loving presence in Evie's life that she so richly deserves, please consider opening your heart and home to this remarkable survivor. Your love and care will help her continue her healing journey. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. Ford is an amazing 5 month old Australian Shepherd mixed dog who is deaf and vision impaired in one eye, but that doesn’t limit him at all.  He is the best companion you could ask for!  He is always ready for an adventure and will follow you wherever you go, wagging his tail and loving you. He has a lot of puppy energy and will do best in a home that can work him physically and mentally.  Ford is extremely smart and is starting to enjoy puzzles for treats and dinner. He is in awe of children of all ages and he thinks they are the best friends ever! He would hang out with them all day long.  He gets along great with his 3 dog siblings, and is not interested in cats.  He is, however, very interested in chickens and will chase them if given the chance.  He does well in his crate and is working on his house training and leash skills. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  show less

Cockatiels are the smallest members of the cockatoo family, and Jagger has a giant personality tucked into his tiny self.  Cockatiels thrive on attention, so an adopter should have a lifestyle that accommodates interaction.  Jagger is still a fairly young bird of about two years, cockatiels may live 15 to 20 years with proper care.  Gentle and affectionate, Jagger loves attention.  While he doesn't care to sit on your finger, he loves to be nearby either on the back of your chair or your shoulder.  He has a repertoire of chirps and whistles and sounds though he is not as loud as other parrots.   Birds are naturally messy so bathing or a mist shower as well as regular cage cleaning is a must for their health.  Potential adopters should be aware of the hazards presented by household items including (& not limited to) cookware coatings, scents (candles, perfumes, etc.) cleaning products, insecticides and/or pesticides as well as some houseplants and food items that may be toxic to birds. At the time you are seeing this post, Jagger is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. We cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application, but if/when your application is approved, we can set up a meet and greet with the foster in person or over video or phone so that you can both determine if it is a good match for both Jagger and your family. Our goal is not to quickly adopt out animals but rather to find the perfect placement for every animal in our care. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: If we need additional information to process your application, we will send an email to request the information. Meet Journey, a survivor of a heart-wrenching hoarding case in North Carolina. She's one of the 20 dogs we rescued from this dire situation. Like her companions, Journey is a gentle soul determined to rebuild her trust in humans. Journey is a sweet and reserved girl, a true testament to resilience. At four years old, she's a petite 26-pound bundle of love, and she's about as big as she'll ever be. New situations take a little time for her to adjust to, so we're seeking a kind-hearted adopter with a peaceful home environment to help her continue her journey of healing and trust-building. Food is the key to Journey's heart, and her foster family has found it to be a powerful tool in helping her see the goodness in people. She gets along well with her foster dog siblings, although she typically doesn't initiate play, which is common for her breed. Journey has made remarkable progress in her foster home, and her capacity to trust grows with each passing day. Are you the special soul meant to walk beside Journey on her path to confidence and love? If you're ready to make a lifelong difference for this courageous girl, apply to adopt her today at greendogsunleashed.org/adopt. Kusu is a 1 year old, fairly typical Anatolian Shepherd who enjoys affection, but also enjoys being outside on patrol.  He likes to take in his surroundings and enjoys the companionship of female dogs and other species. Kusu is crate trained but requires a solid crate as he will look for weakness in crate and when none are found he will relax and snooze.  Kusu is fine with all critters, unless they are challenging him for food and he is good with kids, small dogs, big dogs, female dogs.  He is NOT good with male dogs.  Kusu enjoys walks and walks nicely with loose lead. He doesn't pull on the leash, but due to the breed and size, he will need continued work. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption.
