Adam is very new to GRRAND, but we think he is about a 2 year old Great Pyrenees (with a little mix of Golden maybe?) that we rescued form a kill shelter. We are still learning about him, but first initial reviews from the kennel staff are:  "Adam arrived safely to the kennel and he is such a sweet boy. He was not a fan of getting into the transport vehicle, and needs some leash training, but we have found that he knows a few commands, is very calm, absolutely beautiful, and just as sweet as can be! He does like to stand up and put his paws on your shoulders to try and give kisses... OHMYGOODESS... but we'll work on that!!! He seems good with other dogs (even resident dog Penny liked him) but we will fill you in more soon". Once he visits the GRRAND vet, we will update, but he is a BIG guy and we recommend you do some research on the Great Pyrenees before you apply. The Great Pyrenees is a fabulously sweet, yet independent and sometimes stubborn breed, and to know them is to love them! They are beautiful and sweet like a Golden, but they are not a Golden. This guy would love to have a secure above ground fenced yard as Great Pyrs love to be in their yard to protect and patrol, and this happens best when they are in a secure space! Andy is a 1.5-year-old golden retriever looking for a MEDICAL FOSTER IN LVL to give him love and special care! Andy's story is a sad one. He and his family's 8-year-old Dobermann were poisoned while they were in their family's backyard, and the culprit was never found. The 8-year-old Dobermann died as a result, and Andy suffered a stroke that has left him with serious mobility challenges. His wonderful family has been so supportive of Andy after this terrible incident, but they are now looking for a new home for Andy as they have done all they can to help in his recovery. He has trouble walking, although he has improved tremendously, he staggers and falls a lot and needs assistance getting down steps, eating, and drinking. He shakes a lot and resembles someone with Parkinson’s disease. (see video to better show his situation) This is so sad for Andy, and GRRAND is going to do what they can to help! https://youtube.com/shorts/3vzDMIq2sBQ?feature=share Andy needs a foster, preferably in Louisville, who can take him to his therapy sessions, though GRRAND can always help with transportation as needed. BIG CHANGES for Angel and Holly... PLEASE READ!!! GRRAND kennel staff and foster team have been desperately trying to find foster homes to help Angel and Holly get out of the kennel and they made the tough decision to split them up into temporary foster homes with other dogs and see how they did.. GREAT news!! Please see below... Angel is a 5 year old, 36lb Doodle, and Holly is a 5 year old, 58lb Golden, who came to us from one of our first large groups of Amish puppy mill rescues back in December. They were petrified of all people, but our amazing volunteers have been working hard to make slow and steady progress introducing Angel and Holly to the world. When they first moved to our GRRAND Central Station kennel, our volunteers would have to carry Angel out to the potty yard, and Holly would follow Angel. Angel is a little more outgoing and independent than Holly and they have come SO FAR!! This is what we have learned from Angel's short term foster: "A little about our absolutely adorable and sweet Angel-  she takes a little bit to warm up but when she does she loves to snuggle and get head scratches  She likes to follow me around and will give kisses to my dog but she isn’t really interested in romping around with him She is quiet and sits right by me during the working day She has had no accidents in the house and will whine if she needs to go out She sleeps through the night perfectly in the play pen She has roam of two rooms when I’m away from the house and has done just fine She didn’t mind the car ride and enjoyed looking around  She will come sit next to you if you are outside with her  She loves treats Who would do great with her- someone who is patient to understand she might take some time to warm up  Someone who understands that she might not be a dog looking to play fetch or go on long walks (at least yet)  She would do good in a home with another calm dog or possibly on her own Someone who can help build her confidence as she learns to trust  We can't wait to see how Angel and Holly's personalities keep blossoming in a foster home! If they need to be separated for adoption in the future, we will do what is best for their stability by transitioning them to a home environment that meets their needs". Angel is looking for a special foster home with a family experienced in the socialization needs of puppy mill dogs. She will need a secure above-ground fenced-in yard and no children under the age of 16 in the house, as she is still considered a flight risk. A stable, confident dog in the home could do wonders for helping her progress but as stated, she is a bit more independent! We have no information at this time about cats. Her foster home will need to have the time and patience to continue showing her how amazing a family and a home are, but the reward in the end is so worth the time. Athena is a beautiful, we believe about 2 years old, Great Pyrenees who was turned in by her owner with her 12 six week old puppies earlier in August. When our team picked her and the pups up they were living in a barn, and all were covered in feces, but they are all now looking forward to their new fun filled and loving forever families! We knew something was not "right" with Athena, so after some vet visits and lots of opinions and discussions, we are so sad to report that Athena is now in hospice care with GRRAND. She has a fast-growing cancer and likely has 4 to 8 months to live. Neither surgery nor medication can save her sweet life. Her bones are easily breakable so she required a foster hospice home where her pain can be managed. Athena will need rest, nourishment, and controlled immobility to keep her brittle bones from breaking. GRRAND is honored to make Athena’s last months as good and comfortable as possible, as she was such a good momma to all of her babies and she deserves the same. With the medical intervention for pain and the most loving foster home around, we know for certain that when her "time comes", she will have known what that warm feeling of true love is all about. For that we are grateful to her foster family and all who have shown her real love and a gentle human touch. Bentley is an 8ish, 80lb-ish, Labrador mix whose owner suddenly passed away leaving Bentley looking for a new home. He is currently staying in a friend of a friend's home with another dog that is not fond of Bentley, so we really need to rehome him. The cats and little dog have found homes, now it is Bentley's turn. Bentley lived with another smaller dog, 2 cats and 3 kids, but we do not know their ages. Bentley is housebroken, has full run of the house and knows some basic commands. "He walks really well on a leash. When he saw someone walking past their house where he's staying, my friend said, "Lay down Bentley," and he stopped immediately and went to his bed. He's a really good dog and we are really wanting to find him a good home that would make our past friend happy". He is a dog with moderate energy, so will make a great companion for anyone looking for a pup to just hang out with! This is Bernie... our sweet Doodle boy! Bernie came to GRRAND from a shelter in late November. He was in terrible condition upon intake and required shaving due to such deep mats. He was also quite unsocialized and has needed a lot of behavioral support to become ready for adoption. We’re so excited for Bernie to be able to continue on the next leg of his journey to finding his forever home! This affectionate boy now loves to jump up and give hugs to his caretakers He will need a family with the time and patience to continue helping him come out of his shell to see all the great things in the world and to give him the attention and exercise he desires. He needs a secure home with an above-ground fenced yard because he could be a flight risk. Bernie resource guards and since he cannot be retrained to change this behavior, he needs a home without any kids, grandkids or children visiting the home. With his resource guarding behaviors, Bernie does not like it when other dogs or people get around his food (or favorite things) so he will need to be fed separately from other dogs however, he does love to play with other dogs and does great with them! We do not believe he should go to a home with cats. Callie is a 4 year old, 75ish lb, female golden Retriever who is undfortunately looking for her forever family due to her owner's passing and family is unable to keep her.  Callie lived with cats, but does not like other dogs in her face, so a home with a very laid back dog or no other dogs is probably best for her.  She is house and crate trained, trustworthy indoors when people are away, and walks well on leash. This is what we are told by her current family: "She becomes overwhelmed, if a dog overcrowds her. We do not think she should go to a home with small children as she is uncomfortable around them but seems unaffected by older children. She is very loving and sweet and I think she would do well in a home where someone could stay with her during the day and without small children". "Callie had been running as a stray for almost a year, fending for herself, when a trapper caught her. She turned her into GRRAND in late October. Callie was initially very scared and withdrawn, but with lots of love and attention from our awesome volunteers, she is starting to come out of her shell.  She is very calm and sweet. Our vet thinks she's around 2.5 years old. She loves to play with most other dogs in the play yards, as long as they are calm and laid-back. We also have her walking on a leash and she's doing wonderfully. She loves to be gently petted.  She is still a little timid with people she doesn't know, but warms as soon as she trusts you.  Until Callie is settled in a home she is going to be a flight risk, so she does need a secure fenced yard. She can scale a 4' fence, so ideally the home will have a 6' privacy fence.  She can go with another calm dog. As she is a flight risk pup she will not be able to go in a home with children under 13. We don't know how she does with cats. She does not mess in her kennel run, which is a decent indication she is house trained, but not a guarantee. Her energy level is moderate to low.  Callie is now ready for her next step, to go to a home, either foster or adoptive.  show less

C.C. was surrendered to GRRAND’s behavioral trainer because she was not a good fit for the home she was in. Now, C.C. is looking for a family to love and appreciate the free spirit personality that matches her free spirit hair! C.C. is an almost 3 year old, approximately 65lb (strong!) medium to high energy Doodle who requests a home with: another playful dog no children under 16 years old no cats above-ground fenced yard This adventure dog loves walks and going to the river to swim. She can get overstimulated in chaotic environments, so she would much prefer 1 on 1 adventures with her people instead of going to breweries and or crowded places. She absolutely loves playing with another dog but likes an opportunity to get to know them first (she is NOT a doggy daycare or dog park dog). We are desperately looking for a foster home for a pair of sweet, wonderful senior male Goldens who have been put out by their family.  These boys, Charlie, aged 11, and Murphy, aged 9, were indoor dogs until about a year ago when their family moved to live with another family member while they built a new house.  Since their move, these sweet boys have lived strictly outdoors with a dog house!  They are reportedly house trained, crate trained, leash trained, good with other dogs, and have lived with kids.  Their owner surrendered them to GRRAND because with the cold, wet weather coming, she was concerned about their well-being through the winter months.  Charlie is a big boy, but Murphy is reportedly much smaller.  When they came to GRRAND last night, they were matted and filthy, but we will clean them up and get them ready for foster care.  We are so hoping that these sweet boys can go to a home together since they have never been apart in the 9 yrs of Murphy’s life.  Murphy is also a 3-legged Golden.  He had a rear leg amputated when a puppy due to his having been born with a deformed foot.  If you could possibly open your home to this pair of very deserving pups, they and we would be so very grateful!  It would be more than wonderful for them to spend this Christmas indoors with a loving family!! This is what we are told about senior boy Charlie: "Charlie us very fearful of storms and fireworks, and will try to escape from fear. Charlie is very lovable with a sweet temperament. He loves to be close to you and is very loyal"! A FOREVER HOME would be AMAZING but at this time, a foster home would be great, by December 21st, when they will need to move from the current kennel they are in.. Calling all Doodle lovers! This bonded pair of sweet girls had a rough start in an Amish puppy mill but have learned that people aren’t so bad. They have been in a foster home since July and are blossoming in that environment. Cookie and Noelle are: ·         Gorgeous, young, medium sized Golden Doodles ·         Joyful, cuddly girls that love other dogs and are happy to sit by you to be petted ·         Homebodies that need a physically fenced yard and someone home more than a typical working family. They show no signs of separation anxiety when left in the house. That means it’s nap time! These girls love to play and start their day smothering their foster brother with kisses before running around the yard and wresting. Cookie and Noelle don’t react to loud noises (ex. TV, vacuum, fireworks) but do skitter away from abrupt unexpected movements so no young children should be in the home. The girls are learning basic commands (come when called, sit for treats) but haven’t ventured out on walks yet.  The perfect owner for Cookie & Noelle will have experience helping unsocialized dogs overcome fears while learning to trust humans.  These girls require direct access to a physically fenced yard and no children under the age of 12.  If you have a lot of love and patience to share with deserving dogs, please submit an application. Cookie and Noelle can’t wait to meet you! show less

Daffodil (Daffy) and Iris are a bonded pair and need to stay together! They came into the GRRAND program with her litter mate Iris in March of this year from an Amish breeder. Dogs from Amish breeders are usually not well socialized and very timid of humans.    These two are an exception; they have come so far in  seven or so months they have been with us.  They love people and being petted. They LOVE treats. They love playing with the other sweet dogs at GRRAND Central Station. They are high energy and love to run and play but have shown no aggression to people or dogs. We recently started walking them off property on leash; they love the new experience, smells, sounds, wildlife,  and are doing great! They still pull some, but we continue to work on that.  They do not mess in their kennel but that doesn't necessarily mean they are house trained. It does indicate they will be easy to train. We now believe this beautiful pair are ready for a home with a secure above ground fence. They will be flight risk pups until they are settled so no children under 13. Duff is a 3year old, 85lb, calm and loving, male Great Pyrenees being surrendered to GRRAND as his owner is having another baby.  We do not know much about him yet, except what we are told by previous owners and that is "he is good with dogs and cats (GRRAND has not cat tested) and is house trained, but NOT crate trained. Duff is said to be trustworthy indoors and HATES to be left outside by himself… he is an indoor dog, wants to be with his people and is not left alone very often and will scale a 6’ fence to get back indoors if left outside so he can be with them! (He has done this at the GRRAND kennel) Duff will need someone to be committed to be with him at all times when outside unless he has a HIGH privacy fenced yard. He is a Great Pyrenees and is looking for a home with a fenced in yard, as the Great Pyrenees breed love nothing more than to hang out in the yard (most, but apparently Duff is very attached to his people), patrol a little here and there and watch the world go by (with his people at his side LOL). If you are a Great Pyrenees lover, you will know their delightful stubborness is what makes them so fun and challenging just the same!! This beautiful girl is Faith... Faith was one of the breeder dogs that was rescued from horrid conditions from the Amish puppy mill rescue in early Dec.  **** Faith continues to be extremely unsocialized at this time, and the type of home she is needing is not just your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for her and they are:  MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. She also MUST have another stable dog, MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the house, MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16. We are still learning about Faith but we do know she is very fearful of everything right now. You can tell she WANTS to get love but she is very hesitant and when one of the volunteers was able to pet her (once), she laid down in fear. Faith has only known the small confines of a kennel, so this new world she has been introduced to is very scary for her. She finds comfort in other dogs as when she is in the play area with volunteers, she was very indifferent and not so interested in people, but when she is outside with some other dogs, she will get excited and bounce around some.  We know we need to get her out of the kennel so she can begin her new journey in life. She needs to find a forever family or foster family that is excited to show her what love and compassion are about. Faith is going to take time... things can not be rushed for her. As said above, she is going to need to have a stable dog living in the home so they can show her the ropes and help build her confidence in everything, especially people. Faith is considered a flight risk, and will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the home.
