About Peach
Everyone, meet Peach! Peach is a 5 year old female golden weighing around 60 lbs.
It was pretty clear that Peach had never lived inside a home before her experience with GRRACE. What we do know is that she lived in a barn and was a breeder mama. At the time she was surrendered to GRRACE she didn’t have a name.
She had to adjust to the sights, sounds and bustle of everyday life. Let me tell you, she is a very quick learner! Her four-legged foster sister showed her how to go up and down the stairs and taught her that the TV and the dishwasher were nothing to be afraid of. With a little more time, she also confidently got the hang of potty training and hasn’t had any accidents since recovering from her spay surgery. She doesn’t always use the same signal to tell you that she needs to go outside, but with consistency or a regular schedule, she will do fine! She also knows “sit” and “shake”.
She does really well in her crate when her humans have to be away. Her crate is very much her safe space. She loves to collect all the toys she can and bring them into the crate with her. Her foster sister has taught her what it means to share the toys and be patient with taking turns. Peach uses good communication skills with her foster sister to tell her when she needs space and when she doesn’t want to play anymore.
Peach had a lot to learn about what it’s like to have fun, play with toys, and do the zoomies. She was also very timid on walks at first, but has now learned to enjoy the sniffs and greet the people she sees along the way. In fact, she has become an enthusiastic member of the neighborhood welcoming committee!
She still does not enjoy car rides. Whenever she doesn’t want to go somewhere, she will plop down so that she can’t be easily picked up. A reflex from her previous life. A little bit of patience goes a long way whenever we recognize that she is scared. Guiding her with a leash and having her foster sister show her how to do things helps a lot, even if she’s not quite confident yet.
We haven’t had the chance to observe Peach with babies or toddlers, but we know she does well with kids five and older. She did spend one night in a temporary foster home that had cats and we were told she was interested and respectful to them.
Peach’s ideal forever home MUST have the following:
--Structural fence
--Another moderate energy mentor dog
--A family that has someone home often.
This sweetheart is still learning so much and we are confident that she will be a perfect addition to a great family!
