GRRAND has been asked to help place 4 9-month old Goldens who have been in a service dog training program, but have ultimately turned out to be pups that wouldn’t do well in that capacity. This is a note from the trainer who will be in charge of placing these pups:
"I have the 4 Goldens that I have asked GRRAND to help me place. I would like to explain my criteria for these dogs as I know there are lots of questions about them and the criteria is NOT normal GRRAND criteria: We acquired these dogs from a backyard breeder at 5 months of age and we have been working with them since December. However, we knew when we agreed to take them that it was very unlikely they would work out as service dogs as they are extremely shy, due to the early lack of socialization and they are also very high energy. They look great when training in a class but throw something new at them and they panic. They are very sweet, but new people, places and things are still so spooky for them!
They all need a quiet home with owners who have a lot of time to work with them. They are very mouthy when overstimulated and that could be a serious problem with young children and they will not easily fit into a new environment. GRRAND has agreed to help me find these dogs a home and for me to select a home for them. With this, one of the requirements I have for them, will be a home that has the time to attend classes and private lessons to continue with their training (or rehabilitation might be a better description). They are beautiful and someday will make great family pets but it's going to take a lot of training, patience and dedication. They will be a "project" with whoever gets any of them. If I thought any of them had a chance to be placed in a working environment we would have kept them but they are too fearful and lack the confidence necessary to serve as a service dog and therefore will be adopted as family pets with plenty of work ahead of them and the family".
Here are the requirements for Merry, Nick, Jingles and Joy:
-Louisville area only
-Above ground fenced yards
-No other dogs (though they do get along well with dogs)
-No children under 6 in the home
-Families who are home more than the typical working couple
Since these pups are only 9 months old, they have lots of puppy energy and will need lots of exercise and training. The trainer is offering free training as a requirement of their adoption.
They are house and crate-trained and have had basic obedience training, but they will need to work on traveling in a car and being well-socialized in the community.
If you are interested in Merry, Jingles, Nick, or Joy, please submit an adoption application ASAP!
