About Buddy
377 days = the amount of time that our boy Buddy has spent in boarding. 🥺😭
1,826 days = the amount of time — before boarding — that Buddy spent on a heavy, restrictive chain prior to his rescue. Outdoors. Completely ignored. Nameless. Hungry. Wearing a collar that was much too small for him, which (as he grew) wound up embedded in his neck. 😢
Buddy’s past is a heartbreaking one. Will he take a special and patient family? Yes! And will he have some additional hurdles to conquer in a home that other pups [who haven’t been abused and neglected in their past] don’t? Absolutely, yes. While he may be one of our longest-term dogs, we are confident his perfect home is out there. And they’re waiting for him, too! I mean, c’mon…just look at that HANDSOME FACE! 😍😍😍
More about Buddy:
➡️ Male
➡️ 6 years old
➡️ Husky/lab mix
➡️ 55-60lbs
➡️ LOVES to be outside!
➡️ Loves to play (& is daycare approved!)
➡️ Fully potty-trained (🙌🏼)
➡️ Crate-trained (may need some transition time in his kennel at a new place…he does occasionally like to use his voice, so apartment living likely wouldn’t be the best for him!)
➡️ Is still continuing to learn “how to dog,” but has come SO far! He’s been working hard with the incredible 2nd Chance to Shine trainers and has learned so much! ❤️
Buddy’s home needs:
✅ A fenced-in backyard (this is a must!)
✅ A cat-free and a chicken-free home (he WILL chase them ❌🐈🐔)
✅ A meet & greet with other dogs in the home (if there are any) prior to placement. He does just fine with most dogs; we just want to make sure he is setup for success!
✅ A dog-savvy person/family who is familiar with resource guarding. We don’t know how much (or how often) Buddy was fed during his first 5 years of life…so he does get protective when it comes to food. Someone who understands this tendency, keeps their house, garbage cans, etc. picked up appropriately, and who’s willing to help Buddy avoid (& improve upon!) this behavior.
✅ Someone who will continually work with him on-leash; he does have some sensitivity around his neck area (likely due to the injuries sustained from his previously embedded collar 😭).
✅ Kids ages 16+ (so they can fully understand his needs and comfortably + properly handle/walk him).
✅ Patience and LOVE. This boy — more than anything — deserves to know the unconditional love of a family. He has waited 6 long years. But it’s never, ever too late!
