About Oliver
Oliver is a 2 year old, 50 lb(ish) Labradoodle who still has quite the puppy in him and puppy energy too! This guy will need a home that can give him the exercise and direction he needs to be a good boy. He was turned into the shelter as he was jumping the families 4 ft fence, and this was very dangerous for Oliver. He can absolutely NOT be unattended in a fenced in yard! Doodles can be a high energy dog and like to stay busy! Oliver has just gone to a foster home with no other animals and no fenced yard, and this is what they have shared so far:
"He is a very sweet boy and still has a lot of puppy in him! He will need a home that can provide him with the exercise and mental stimulation a young active dog needs. When he gets excited he jumps so that is something we need to work on, but he does have some manners, so his forever family will need to work with him and give him direction on the ones he does know.. Oliver is house trained, as he has had no accidents in the house and he has not bothered things that he knows are off limits. He will get on the furniture (couch, chair, bed) if you let him - but he is learning that is not allowed here. Oliver is a VELCRO dog... he just wants to be with us at all times! And if you have an available foot, he WILL lay on it! LOL
He likes car rides and walks but can be a bit skittish during walks especially with loud noises. Since we do not have any other dogs, what we have seen so far on walks is that he does ok around some dogs, if they do not bark or growl at him, so he could be dog selective. We noticed that he also tends to bark at men, (he's not initially a fan of a man in a baseball hat) even those he knows if they make quick unexpected moves, but he will warm up after a little time. We don't know what happened in his past, so his new family will need to have the time and patience to help him with socialization and experiencing new things.
We know this guy is a SMART one as he CAN and WILL open latch door handles (the ones that push down and push the door open). We also keep the screen doors locked to keep him from having the opportunity to let himself out, but in the house he can push the handle down and open the doors if the door pushes out so we keep an eye on him.
We feel Oliver needs to go to a home with older responsible children and a higher than 4ft fenced yard.
We are still learning about Oliver so check back for more into, but if you would like to meet this guy, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org
