Rose (lighter with white patch on chest) & Azalea (Azzy is darker) are 2 year old, super sweet girls who came to us on our most recent Amish puppy mill rescue when they were dumped at a vet to be euthanized because the puppy mill had an upcoming inspection! Thank goodness we got a call for them! These girls are very bonded and we will be placing them together as a pair, with a family that meets the criteria for their needs.... Even though they are the most social of their group, they, like all the Amish breeder dogs, will need a secure above ground fenced yard, and a home with no kids under 12 because they are a bit skittish. Puppy mill dogs need homes where the family is home more than not and has the time and patience to help with socialization, as the whole world is brand new to them... From leash-walking to outside noises, they’ll need help and compassion experiencing it all! Azzy is the more outgoing of the two, knows no strangers and leads the way and little Miss Rose is more shy, unsure and watches Azzy before she decides if it’s ok to do anything! Rose is slightly harder to get to come to you, but she’s clearly learning to trust already and Azzy, curls around you like she’s always been your best friend! In the GRRAND Central Station play yard, they go up to people for attention, love other dogs, and love to play in the yard! They are especially fond of completely destroying stuffed toys!! There was one in the play yard and they made crazy, quick work of it. Our volunteers say that getting it from them was comical as they thought it was a game... Stuffing was flying everywhere like it was staged for a movie! We are THRILLED to find these girls their forever home. They absolutely love each other, love affection, and love to play! This is so wonderful to see as they have never known what "fun" is until now! Bella is a beautiful 2 1/2 year old 70lb Golden whose body practically bends in half with happy wiggles when she is showing off her treasures! She is needing an adult household with no other pets, children under the age of 16, a fenced yard and folks who will work her on socialization and confidence-building. Bella will need an experienced family, committed to working with her on resource-guarding behaviors as she was given up by her new owners because she resource-guarded items, primarily food, from their other dog.  She had reportedly not shown any resource-guarding with people, but when Bella went to a new home for “foster to adopt”,  she immediately started resource-guarding a lot of things with her new parents. We have solicited the expertise assistance from our Cincinnati trainer, who says that Bella is a good dog, but needs the right home. She needs experienced pet owners who can work with her under the supervision of our trainer. As stated above, she cannot have children or other dogs in the home as her environment needs to be controlled.  Bella is house and crate trained, has had obedience training and lived in a loving home that gave her all they could, but we are looking for a family or an individual willing to work with her to help her with her resource-guarding tendencies.  Bella's new family needs to be committed to giving her the exercise and training she needs to grow up to be a well socialized girl.  If you feel that you could be that special home Bella is looking for, please submit the adoption application at GRRAND.org   show less

This is Bernie... our sweet Doodle boy! Bernie came to GRRAND from a shelter in late November. He was in terrible condition upon intake and required shaving due to such deep mats. He was also quite unsocialized and has needed a lot of behavioral support to become ready for adoption. We’re so excited for Bernie to be able to continue on the next leg of his journey to finding his forever home! This affectionate boy now loves to jump up and give hugs to his caretakers He will need a family with the time and patience to continue helping him come out of his shell to see all the great things in the world and to give him the attention and exercise he desires. He needs a secure home with an above-ground fenced yard because he could be a flight risk. Bernie resource guards and since he cannot be retrained to change this behavior, he needs a home without any kids, grandkids or children visiting the home. With his resource guarding behaviors, Bernie does not like it when other dogs or people get around his food (or favorite things) so he will need to be fed separately from other dogs however, he does love to play with other dogs and does great with them! We do not believe he should go to a home with cats. Bobbie is about a 7 year old, 90lb Lab/Golden mix that came to GRRAND from a shelter and has proven to be just a sweetheart and while she was at the GRRAND kennel, she loved to swim in the pool! She wants nothing more than to cuddle and be pampered. Her favorite things are to carry around her stuffed toys, chase tennis balls, and explore the great outdoors, look out the window to the world from the house and get LOTS of belly rubs and treats!  As you can see from her pictures, she loves the couch and thinks she is the size of a small lap dog! ;) This beauty is house-trained, crate-trained, potty trained and knows some basic commands. Most of the time she has free reign of the house. She is working on her leash walking and manners too. She is generally pretty good with other dogs - but should be introduced to new doggy friends slowly. She is currently living with another large dog and has spent weekends with a younger, smaller dog/puppy without any issues. We are confident that she could become accustomed to almost any dog - but she may prefer medium to lower-energy dogs like herself, and we do NOT know how she will do with cats. Bobby LOVES people and has been around several children of all ages but may knock over a smaller child since she is pretty big.  She has not shown any treat or toy aggression either.  Rooms for improvement: knocking things off counters/tables, having a little more patience with dogs who get in her face or lack manners Overall Bobby has been a JOY to love on these past few months. Brinkman is one beautiful girl.... This big floofy floof is 3 year old Brinkman, our new resident Great Pyr at the kennel. She was on the euthanasia list at a shelter and GRRAND got to her just in time! She is looking for her forever family and if you are in love with her looks, you will love his personality even more! If you are not familiar with the Great Pyrenees breed, we ask you research them before applying as GP's are beautiful and have a great temperament like a Golden, but they are NOT Golden's! They have their own special "traits" that you should know. To know a Great Pyr is to LOVE a Great Pyr, but they are different than Golden Retrievers. Brinkman is new to GRRAND and she has just gone to a foster home and here is what we are learning so far: "Brinkman needs to go to a home without other dogs and without cats. I have 2 cats and Brinkman has been kept separate but she barks at them if she sees them through the baby gate. She especially gets upset if she sees them jump on the couch with me. So I feel she is resource guarding me, but things are still new so we are learning. Otherwise Brinkman is a wonderful dog! She is so young and playful and has tons of energy. She loves running and playing keep away with a ball. She races around my backyard so fast! She is very good walking on a leash and responds to the command “leave it” when she wants to go get a bunny (if on the leash). She is very smart and obedient and is easy to train. She already knows sit very well. She’s pretty close to having “down” and “stay” and she is learning to “wait“ for permission before going in and out doors and gates. She is very very affectionate and loves people. It would be best for her to go to a home where someone is home most of the time as she hates to be left and I hate to leave her for much at all. I have been calling her Brinken and she is so so sweet and affectionate! She truly will be such a wonderful dog for someone who wants a dog to go do a lot of things with and who can give her a lot of exercise and time"'   The folks at the kennel said these great things about here before she went to her foster home: "She's really quite the perfect dog. Very sweet to humans and she likes to play and romp" "Brinkman is the sweetest with zero aggression. She walks great on leash and she LOVES to be petted. Butterbean is 5 months old and looking for her forever family! She is growing quickly and would love a home who loves big fluffy dogs! This cutie is Butterbean! Butterbean and her siblings were taken in from a goat farmer who could not manage so many puppies, and they are all now looking for their forever families. She is a 5 month old Great Pyrenees puppy who had only lived outside or in a barn for the first part of her life. Interested applicants should expect her to be big, and should be prepared for that sweet and independent Pyrenees personality... to know the Great Pyr breed is to love them, but they are not Goldens, and we suggest you do some research on this beautiful breed before applying! (updated on 6-4: Buttercup has been sleeping on or near the bed at night (and she is the biggest snuggle bug!) Potty training is going well - no accidents in the house in over two weeks and she is obviously is taking cues from our dogs for when to go out and potty.  Her teeth have completely whitened up since she has been here as when we brought here home they were quite brown.  I am able to put my hand in her mouth if she grabs something I don’t want her to have with no fears of being bit to remove it.  I don’t think she would do well in a home that didn’t have another dog to show her the ropes. She craves attention and loves playing with my female lab, so needs another dog   A little resource guarding but it is improving. Still a counter surfer extraordinaire! Gotta love those Pyrs! She occasionally is snappy with my male lab Ben but I think it’s because they are both unaltered. He is such a push over he doesn’t respond to it. I think that will change once she is spayed.    Oh I also discovered she is polydactyl... Six toes each on both back paws! Apparently that may be somewhat common in great Pyrs and also a good luck charm. Too cute! Found out recently that not only is she great with large dogs but she adores small dogs as well!  THIS IS HUGE, as she now has free reign of the house when we leave for a few hours! Cami is a super sweet, 2 yr old Lab/Australian Shepherd mix but actually looks more like a black lab!   She is being surrendered from her owner’s home because they also have her female littermate and the girls are exhibiting some littermate syndrome and getting into a few squabbles (nothing too bad, but owners think they will be happier separated).  Cami is house and crate trained, although she has actually graduated from using the crate in her current owner’s home! She now has full run! As Cami is an active breed dog, she loves to retrieve balls in the yard and carry around soft toys! Sadly, her owner has moved to a home without a fenced yard so Cami’s days of running and retrieving are over for now, but she sure would love to get back to it ASAP!  She generally interacts well with dogs in public places and loves human attention, but her owner thinks she may enjoy being the only dog or would do better in a home with a submissive male dog.  She is looking for a home with a fenced yard and a family who is willing to exercise her and work with her on leash training (she is prone to pull).  Cami is a beautiful, sweet, happy go lucky girl, who should do really well with a family who is willing to give her love and attention.  Cami lives with 2 cats and also lives with kids 14, 12, 9 and 7. Charlie is a 1 year old, 95lb Great Pyrenees pup... This boy still has LOTS of growing to do!! Charlie was turned in by his owner and it is obvious he has had no kind of training, and it seems minimal social interactions as well, but we are working on that. A couple of our volunteer staff have fallen for this big beautiful boy and they say that "Charlie is a great dog; it seems that no one has worked with him on basic commands or given him excessive attention and love. With love, training, LOTS of exercise and attention, from our perspective and experience with great pyrs, we KNOW he has great potential to become a loyal, loving pet"! We have learned that Charlie CAN jump a 4 ft fence, so he will need to go to a home with at least 5ft to 6ft fenced yard. He is a gentle giant and takes treats very gently from our volunteers too! Charlie rides well in the car, is not crate trained, is house trained, but we aren’t sure how he would do left alone in the house so someone home more than gone would be best for Charlie. This big ball of fluff loves other dogs, but plays hard so a dog his size is the best match for him. He is just as sweet as he is giant!  On a walk when encountering another dog, expect Charlie to get excited and pull hard toward the dog. His intention is not malicious at all. He just wants to say hi to the dog and play, if possible. Only rarely do we allow this, because of his strength. Someone of average strength should not walk Charlie on a harness. He can pull with great force. Charlie would beneft greatly from training and it would help build a bond between him and his family. He seems to be good and careful with older children, but this also should be taken cautiously. We think a home with older children is best as he has no STOP button and just keeps running til he runs you down! He has NEVER shown any mean streak at all: growling, display of teeth, etc. Yet, fragile people need to be cautious around him because of his strength and puppiness. Many Great Pyrenees are lumbering and slow moving. In contrast, Charlie is amazingly athletic! Watching him run in a properly fenced field is a delight; he is poetry in motion! Without the proper fence it would be heartrending because he would be over the horizon in a flash.  Seemingly Charlie is just looking for a family to give him lots of love, attention and direction. It takes him a long while to adjust to the indoors of a house. Even things like television make him nervous. We do suggest that if you are not familiar with the Great Pyrenees breed, that you do some research on them before you meet Charlie as Great Pyrs are a FABULOUS breed, but they are different than Golden Retrievers in some big ways. His family will need to be committed to the time and patience he will need to help him through his adjustments to his new home and the puppy phase of his life... he IS still just a puppy! As Charlie is still a young pup he is very much at the age for developmental positives! We would love to get him out of the kennel and into a home ASAP! He is always happy to get out and be out and about and get lots and lots of love and nothing would be better than for him to find his forever family. We are still learning about Charlie and we do know that Great Pyrs love to have a yard to roam the perimeter and check the neighborhood out to make sure all is A-OK! We do not know how Charlie is with cats at this time. The volunteers at the kennel have said he has shown no aggression towards anyone nor any food guarding. Say hello to Charlie! He is our new 11 month old, just under 40lb Awesome Aussiedoodle! Charlie was rescued from a rural kill shelter as he had escaped his owners home 3 different times and the last time he went to she shelter, was going to be his "last time" until the shelter contacted one of our volunteers. He is one lucky dude, as he is now in a foster home with a secure above ground fenced yard and plenty of supervision and has not one time tried to escape, as he is in a home where he gets plenty of attention, love and the companioship of another playful dog. They have filled us in on some info about Charlie and he is really doing all he can to be a good boy so he can find his forever family as soon as possible!  "Charlie is an adorable snuggly, super friendly puppy (at 11 months old, he IS still a puppy) looking for a home that can offer him the exercise and direction he needs to grow up to be a good boy. Charlie has PLENTY of that puppy energy, and needs a home that can offer him a good energy outlet. He loves to play in the yard with our Doodle as they go flying through the yard side by side racing to see who can get to the end the fastest! It would probably be best for Charlie to go to a home with a younger dog who can keep up with his activity level, but he could be ok being the only dog as long as he can get lots of attention and exercise. He needs some work on his leash manners as he does pull some while on walks, but he enjoys his daily walks just the same. As far as toys go, he loves tennis balls and nylabones. We've moved Charlie to sleeping on the floor in our bedroom and he's doing great with that and sleeping through the night most nights and has had no potty accidents at all. We use the crate only when we both leave the house and he is happy about this! Charlie is a great work-from-home companion.  Although he has puppy energy at times, he is also a great daytime napper. He naps in my home office throughout the day and when he comes to me to make sure things are going well with work, I take him outside for potty breaks and playtime in between meetings. He loves riding in the car. We've taken him on a few visits and he's well behaved in the car and always excited to go somewhere new! We took him to a Derby party where he met lots of new doggie friends and people and around kids and he was a good boy. He had the time of his life! We kept a close eye on him with all of the new surroundings, but he was super!   We feed him separately from our girl right now as he is underweight and seems very hungry all the time, but he and our dog share a water bowl and toys with no incidents.  Charlie loves attention from dogs and people just the same. One of the pictures of Charlie is from the Louisville City soccer game where dogs were invited to attend and he did GREAT! We are proud to say he now has his own LouCity bandana and he wears it proudly! He is incredibly sweet and quite the snuggle bug. This guy gives the meaning to velcro dog as he loves to lean against people and just snuggle up. Belly rubs??? OH YES! He will just roll on his back with his paws in the air basically inviting us (or strongly suggesting with those beautiful blue eyes) to bring the belly rubs on"! Charlie's new family will need to have the time and patience to work with an active puppy, and remember, a tired puppy is a good puppy! Aussie's and Poodles are both very smart dogs, and with the work a family is willing to put into Charlie, should pay off for sure! This is Chip... he is one of the breeder dogs that came to GRRAND from the horrid conditions of the Amish puppy mill rescue in early Dec. He is a 1 1/2 year old Chocolate Lab who has never known anything but a small kennel. He is very fearful of this new world he has just been brought into and we are going to help him get through it! **** Chip continues to be extremely unsocialized at this time, and the type of home he is needing is not just your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for him and they are:  MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. He also MUST have another stable dog, MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard, and MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16. Look at his sweet and soulful eyes... This is the face of a dog absolutely TERRIFIED of people. It's just so sad but it is our mission to help show Chip that people are not all bad, and that it is going to be OK. Chip literally spent the first few days after the rescue, with his nose in the corner of the kennel in fear. He is coming around and is happy and talkative with dogs and loves to play with his buddy Jax in the play yard, but is still VERY unsure of people! He will only occasionally accept the warm and loving touch of our volunteers, but we know he will come around and it is important that he get out of the kennel and (slowly) socialized into his new world. As Chip is considered a flight risk due to his fear, as stated above, he will need to go to his forever or foster home that has a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the home. As we do not know how he will be with chaos and kids, so his new home will not be able to have children under the age of 16. We do not know how he is with cats at this time either. Chip will need a very patient family who will not rush the process of his socialization to new things. His people will need to be committed to working with him through his fears, insecurities  and uncertainties. Also sted above, a home with another stable dog to help Chip build his confidence and show him the ropes is non-questionable in his rehabilitation. Cookie and Noelle are a young (about a little over a year old) bonded pair of Goldendoodles that GRRAND took in, in early Dec from a horrid puppy mill rescue. These girls are SLOWLY learning what love, the gentle touch from a human, and being a dog is really all about, and sadly, they still have a long way to go. (As a FUN kennel volunteer update from 6-4... They are coming out of their shell and have ALOT of fun together now :)  They are doing much better, and interacting with people much more! This is great to see as they are very sweet girls!) Cookie and Noelle continue to be extremely unsocialized and fearful at this time, and the type of home they are needing is not just your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for them and they are:  MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. They also MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard (no Invisible fences) with direct access from the home to the yard. (no apartments) They MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16. A relatively quiet/calm environment, a family who is willing to work with them, show them compassion and patience and SOOO much love is what they also need. It is a HUGE ask, and we know there are only a few families that suit their needs, but we can't set these girls up for failure as we are committed to finding that specific home for them. It's going to take a very special foster family to manage them at this point, especially with the transition into a home environment that they have NEVER experienced before. Here are a few things some of the volunteers who hang out with these girls at GRRAND Central Station have to say:  "If you sit quietly and other dogs are coming up to you, they are slowly starting to do the same now too" "These sweet girls are coming along. We now have them in the big play yard and they will... very cautiously... let us pet them. They are happy when we have other dogs around but they tend to stick together observing the others". (The pictures show JUST THAT too) "They are so sweet and adorable!!!  Some very special family, the right family, with a lot of love and patience and a quiet, safe home is going to get REALLY LUCKY with these 2"!! "They like being outside in the play yard and are now mostly ok with the grass... which they have never encountered till GRRAND - actively avoided it when taken around the front of the building" "They are still very unsocialized BUT have come a long way from where they had begun in Dec"! This beautiful girl is Faith... Faith was one of the breeder dogs that was rescued from horrid conditions from the Amish puppy mill rescue in early Dec.  **** Faith continues to be extremely unsocialized at this time, and the type of home she is needing is not just your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for her and they are:  MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. She also MUST have another stable dog, MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard, and MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16. We are still learning about Faith but we do know she is very fearful of everything right now. You can tell she WANTS to get love but she is very hesitant and when one of the volunteers was able to pet her (once), she laid down in fear. Faith has only known the small confines of a kennel, so this new world she has been introduced to is very scary for her. She finds comfort in other dogs as when she is in the play area with volunteers, she was very indifferent and not so interested in people, but when she is outside with some other dogs, she will get excited and bounce around some.  We know we need to get her out of the kennel so she can begin her new journey in life. She needs to find a forever family or foster family that is excited to show her what love and compassion are about. Faith is going to take time... things can not be rushed for her. As said above, she is going to need to have a stable dog living in the home so they can show her the ropes and help build her confidence in everything, especially people. Faith is considered a flight risk, and will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the home. HOLY SMOKES! Due to the overwhelming number of applications we have received for Sawyer and Finn, we have to stop accepting apps for them at this time... BUT HEY WAIT!!! We have lots of other wonderful dogs looking for their forever families too ;) Finn is a 5 month old Golden Retriever puppy who is yet... from ANOTHER Amish puppy mill!!! He and his brother Sawyer came in together and are in a foster home and living the life! Here are the GRRAND puppy guidlines... Puppies are a lot of work, and if you are interested in a GRRAND puppy and have children, PLEASE SEE THE ADOPTION FAQs section of the website for more detailed info. GRRAND policies stipulate a few important things that may stop you from applying, and here are 2 big ones- A: GRRAND will NOT place a puppy under the age of 6 months with families with children under 6 yrs old  B: Any applicant with children under the age of 16, will require a home with direct access to a securely fenced yard... meaning direct access to the yard from the home… so this means no apartments or condos Apartments and condos can also be tricky for adult only households, as puppies can be whiny and loud, and may make too much noise for the neighbors, but GRRAND will allow as long as the apartments are on the ground floor with direct access outside as house training a puppy from a 3rd floor apartment will be a challenge. Here is what his foster family has to say about him: "Finn is your pup if you want a golden in a petite package. He is such a sweetheart and this little guy came from an Amish farm where there was no such thing as love and the tender loving touch from a person. Finn did not understand the concept of “going indoors” and quickly learned being "inside" is ok, and that treats and toys and love are amazing things! Finn prefers the hard bones and miscellaneous fun toys. I am so thankful he is relaxing and enjoying being a companion! Finn is crate-trained and whines or bark if he needs a potty break. I had to let him out at 4 am but a quick respite, and then back to sleep. So easy! This little guy wants to please, likes exploring (not far from his foster parents), and is vocal when needed. He is good with baths and the activity associated with an active household! After the way he spent the first 5 months of his life, we are SO HAPPY for his easy adjustment to our home for he and Sawyer both. If these guys are not adopted together, they definitely need to go to a home with another dog… they are very stressed without another dog, as it makes sense because it is all they have known is dogs, and that is their comfort zone!  An update on Finn and Sawyer from June: These little guys have come full circle. Finn and Sawyer arrived at our home from an Amish puppy mill. Human contact/nurturing, toys, treats, and positive reinforcement were foreign concepts. Within days, they relaxed and started to thrive. They are now happy-go-lucky, playful, social butterflies and a true joy to all that come into contact with them. Sawyer is a beautiful, big boy who loves to follow his foster mom everywhere. Pre-bedtime snuggles and pool time are a favorite part of his day. Finn is a petite version of his brother and equally affectionate. He adores the humans and pets in his foster home and loves the camaraderie of the neighborhood children, dogs, and cats. Like Sawyer, Finn loves water and frolicking in the dog pool. These pups are so bright and doing wonderfully with their training. Sawyer and Finn are crate-trained, housebroken, and learning simple commands such as "sit," "no," and "come." Their intelligence and eager-to-please disposition make training a breeze.  Sawyer and Finn have come a long way from the Amish puppy mill from which they were born and, as a result, have bonded over the experience. An ideal environment would be a family that would welcome both dogs to their home. They are truly a delight in our home, and we thoroughly enjoy watching them grow, learn, and respond to these new experiences. Finn enjoys cats, dogs, and all people!
