About Butterbean

Butterbean is 5 months old and looking for her forever family! She is growing quickly and would love a home who loves big fluffy dogs!

This cutie is Butterbean! Butterbean and her siblings were taken in from a goat farmer who could not manage so many puppies, and they are all now looking for their forever families. She is a 5 month old Great Pyrenees puppy who had only lived outside or in a barn for the first part of her life. Interested applicants should expect her to be big, and should be prepared for that sweet and independent Pyrenees personality... to know the Great Pyr breed is to love them, but they are not Goldens, and we suggest you do some research on this beautiful breed before applying! The "Butter" puppies all will need a secure above ground fenced yard as Great Pyrs love to be in their yard to protect and patrol, and this happens best when they are in a secure space. Please note the GRRAND puppy guidelines:

Puppies are a lot of work, and if you are interested in a GRRAND puppy and have children, PLEASE SEE THE ADOPTION FAQs section of the website for more detailed info. GRRAND policies stipulate a few important things that may stop you from applying, and here are 2 big ones-

A: GRRAND will NOT place a puppy under the age of 6 months with families with children under 6 yrs old

B: Any applicant with children under the age of 16, will require a home with direct access to a securely fenced yard... meaning direct access to the yard from the home… so this means no apartments or condos

Apartments and condos can also be tricky for adult only households, as puppies can be whiny and loud, and may make too much noise for the neighbors, but GRRAND will allow as long as the apartments are on the ground floor with direct access outside as house training a puppy from a 3rd floor apartment will be a challenge.

This sweet girl is in a foster home now and here is what they have to say about her:

"She is a total love bug with people but seems selective when choosing dog friends. Butterbean has a sweet temperament and lives with our 6 year old and 10 year old children and they all just love eachother! She is new to us, so we will update soon"!

Butterbean will be looking for a home with a fenced in yard and a family with LOTS of time and patience to socialize and work with a puppy so she can grow up to be a good girl! ***Exercise and direction are a must as a tired puppy is a good puppy!! It is a lot of fun, but it is a lot of work, and if you don't have the time, an active and non-stop playful puppy may not be for you!

Families must understand there needs to be constant supervision as children of all ages need to learn to respect an animal and puppies, and need to be taught boundaries. We are excited Butterbean is in a foster home and finally getting to know what a nice soft bed, in a warm and cozy home with a loving family is all about!

Angel is a 4 year old, 36lb Doodle, and Holly is a 4 year old, 58lb Golden, who came to us from one of our first large groups of Amish puppy mill rescues back in December (Angel is a littermate to Madeline, who came to us pregnant!). They were petrified of all people, but our amazing volunteers have been working hard to make slow and steady progress introducing Angel and Holly to the world. We are seeking a foster home for Angel and Holly together, to help continue their progress. When they first moved to our GRRAND Central Station kennel, our volunteers would have to carry Angel out to the potty yard, and Holly would follow Angel. Angel is a little more outgoing than Holly at this point, but they now walk out to the yard on slip leads, and they are letting volunteers pet them and give them treats. Holly was even playing with a ball recently! They especially love being with other dogs (check out the recently posted video of them playing!). We can't wait to see how Angel and Holly's personalities blossom in a foster home! We believe they may need to be separated for adoption in the future, but for right now, we want to continue their stability by transitioning them to a home environment together. Angel and Holly are looking for a special foster home together with a family experienced in the socialization needs of puppy mill dogs. They will need a secure above-ground fenced-in yard and no children under the age of 16 in the house, as they are still considered flight risks. A stable, confident dog in the home will do wonders for helping their progress! We have no information on this time about cats. Their foster home will need to have the time and patience to continue showing them how amazing a family and a home are, but the reward in the end is so worth the time. If you are interested in meeting this beautiful pair, please complete a foster application: grrand.org/foster-a-golden-retriever-with-grrand/ GRRAND dogs are looking for foster and forever homes in our current service area of Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, and Greater Cincinnati and Dayton. Athena is a beautiful, we believe about 2 years old, Great Pyrenees who was turned in by her owner with her 12 six week old puppies earlier in August. When our team picked her and the pups up they were living in a barn, and all were covered in feces, but they are all now looking forward to their new fun filled and loving forever families! We knew something was not "right" with Athena, so after some vet visits and lots of opinions and discussions, we are so sad to report that Athena is now in hospice care with GRRAND. She has a fast-growing cancer and likely has 4 to 8 months to live. Neither surgery nor medication can save her sweet life. Her bones are easily breakable so she required a foster hospice home where her pain can be managed. Athena will need rest, nourishment, and controlled immobility to keep her brittle bones from breaking. GRRAND is honored to make Athena’s last months as good and comfortable as possible, as she was such a good momma to all of her babies and she deserves the same. With the medical intervention for pain and the most loving foster home around, we know for certain that when her "time comes", she will have known what that warm feeling of true love is all about. For that we are grateful to her foster family and all who have shown her real love and a gentle human touch. We will incur expenses while she is in hospice care and if you want to be a part of making Athena’s last days the best of her life, PLEASE make a donation on the GRRAND donation page. We thank you greatly.   show less

Bailey is a 5 year old, on the smaller side (about 70ish lbs) Labradoodle...  his mom was a Labradoodle and his dad was a doodle mix, and this guy was the only one who looked like a Golden! Bailey is looking for a new home, at no fault of his own, as his mom has some significant health issues which are not good for her or Bailey, so sadly they had to move and he needs a new forever family.  We are told Bailey has a calm demeanor and is very sweet and attentive with his owner's 10 year old granddaughter. He shows off his skill set of sit, sit pretty (front paws in the air), rollover etc. They say he could probably lose about 5 lbs, and hopefully with some consistent exercise, this will happen easily for Bailey. His top coat is shorter on the body area (more doodle-ish) but the typical longer length on the underside. He loves attention and is a sweet faced dog with beautiful eyes! His family feels he would do best as an “only” dog as he loves to be the center of attention and they say he can "be a bit territorial with other dogs in his space". Bailey has been recently moved to this “suburban” location from his farm land, and he is slowly adjusting to constant traffic, people walking by and delivery trucks. He has never been walked on a leash while on the acreage and was used to an invisible fence system at her family's old property, so he will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard or a home with a professionally installed invisible fence system. He returns easily with his name called whether indoors or out in the fenced yard. As he has ever been walked on leash at his home, he will need training with leash manners. This boy does not like the darkness of nighttime and unless he really has to go potty before bedtime, he will not venture outside. He also will gladly go into his crate with the phrase “Cage Bailey ” which is what they used to bring him to this new location since he would not get into the car on a leash and his crate is being offered to this new family.  Bailey is "free-fed" throughout the day and his bowl is picked up every evening before bed. He does have some anxiety to unexpected and loud noises but calms down with petting and reassurance. He brings toys back to you but doesn’t like tug of war play at all. Bailey loves water and has been known to jump into a pool or 2! When his mom would go to work, he was crated and she also would gate him into an area of the house as well, but he has not needed a crate in a while.  Bailey has a great temperament and is looking for the right family to have the time and patience to help him through his adjustments... he has been through a lot already, so another new place will be more for this boy to go through. His current family is home most of the time, so he is not left home by himself very often. If you feel you would like to be Bailey's forever family and help him with this next phase of his life, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   show less

Bear and Lucy are a bonded pair of littermates that are about 3 years old (Bear is about 95lbs and Lucy 75lbs), that were turned into GRRAND as "The dogs are Livestock Guardian dogs though they need more training. The animals they were protecting have been taken out by a fox over the winter and there are no longer animals to protect. They are not getting the attention/socialization they deserve". Looks like being an in home well love pet is what they are meant to be, and they are looking to be adopted together. They have been together since birth and are very attached to eachother. They are at the GRRAND kennel and they say that Bear and Lucy "act like big puppies, and they are so sweet and loving! You talk about adorable big fluff bunnies!! They love being with people. They've not messed in their runs at all and they do need work on leash walking and a few jumping up manners, but nothing significant. As stated, The Great Pyr are Livestock Guardian Dogs. They will need a home with a fenced in yard as they love to be in their yard to protect and patrol, and this happens best when they are in a secure space! We do suggest that if you are not familiar with the Great Pyrenees breed, that you do some research on them before you apply, as Great Pyrs are a FABULOUS breed, but they are different than Golden Retrievers in some big ways, and to know a Great Pyr is to LOVE one! We are still learning about these two so check back in a week or two for an update! They are looking for a foster or forever family who has the time and patience to work with them, as they have only been outside dogs and will need direction on what it is like to live in a home.  If you would like to meet Lucy and Bear, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org show less

This is Bella and she is a SPECIAL NEEDS DOG! Bella is a beautiful 2 1/2 year old 70lb Golden whose body practically bends in half with happy wiggles when she is showing off her treasures! She is needing an adult household with no other pets, children under the age of 16, a fenced yard and folks who will work her on socialization and confidence-building. Bella will need an experienced family, committed to working with her on resource-guarding behaviors as she was given up by her new owners because she resource-guarded items, primarily food, from their other dog.  She had reportedly not shown any resource-guarding with people, but when Bella went to a new home for “foster to adopt”,  she immediately started resource-guarding a lot of things with her new parents. We have solicited the expertise assistance from our Cincinnati trainer, who says that Bella is a good dog, but needs the right home. She needs experienced pet owners who can work with her under the supervision of our trainer. As stated above, she cannot have children or other dogs in the home as her environment needs to be controlled.  Bella is house and crate trained, has had obedience training and lived in a loving home that gave her all they could, but we are looking for a family or an individual willing to work with her to help her with her resource-guarding tendencies.  Bella's new family needs to be committed to giving her the exercise and training she needs to grow up to be a well socialized girl.  If you feel that you could be that special home Bella is looking for, please submit the adoption application at GRRAND.org   show less

This is Bernie... our sweet Doodle boy! Bernie came to GRRAND from a shelter in late November. He was in terrible condition upon intake and required shaving due to such deep mats. He was also quite unsocialized and has needed a lot of behavioral support to become ready for adoption. We’re so excited for Bernie to be able to continue on the next leg of his journey to finding his forever home! This affectionate boy now loves to jump up and give hugs to his caretakers He will need a family with the time and patience to continue helping him come out of his shell to see all the great things in the world and to give him the attention and exercise he desires. He needs a secure home with an above-ground fenced yard because he could be a flight risk. Bernie resource guards and since he cannot be retrained to change this behavior, he needs a home without any kids, grandkids or children visiting the home. With his resource guarding behaviors, Bernie does not like it when other dogs or people get around his food (or favorite things) so he will need to be fed separately from other dogs however, he does love to play with other dogs and does great with them! We do not believe he should go to a home with cats. Interested families will have the support of our trainer to help understand Bernie and get him settled into his new home If you are interested in fostering Bernie, please complete a foster application: http://grrand.org/foster-process/ If you think Bernie may be the dog for you, please complete an adoption application: http://grrand.org/adoption-process/ show less

Meet Queen Bobbie... She is Queen of stuffie toys, Queen of the couch, and Queen of adorable! Bobbie is about a 7 year old, 90lb Lab/Golden mix that came to GRRAND from a shelter and has proven to be just a sweetheart and while she was at the GRRAND kennel, she loved to swim in the pool! She wants nothing more than to cuddle and be pampered. Her favorite things are to carry around her stuffed toys, chase tennis balls, and explore the great outdoors, look out the window to the world from the house and get LOTS of belly rubs and treats!  As you can see from her pictures, she loves her toys and the couch and thinks she is the size of a small lap dog! ;) She is doing great in her foster home, and they say "Bobbie enjoys daily walks as she continues to work on her leash training. Bobbie is such a great dog and really deserves the best home/family"!  This beauty is house-trained, crate-trained, potty trained and knows some basic commands. Most of the time she has free reign of the house. She is generally pretty good with other dogs - but should be introduced to new doggy friends slowly. She is currently living with another large dog and has spent weekends with a younger, smaller dog/puppy without any issues. We are confident that she could become accustomed to almost any dog - but she may prefer medium to lower-energy dogs like herself, and we do NOT know how she will do with cats. Bobby LOVES people and has been around several children of all ages but may knock over a smaller child since she is pretty big.  She has not shown any treat or toy aggression either.  Rooms for improvement: knocking things off counters/tables, having a little more patience with dogs who get in her face or lack manners. Overall Bobby has been a JOY to love on these past few months. She is a people person through-and-through and just wants to be someone's best friend, couch buddy and companion! This cutie is Buttercake! She is a 8 month old Great Pyrenees puppy who needs to be the only dog in the home as she does not like to compete for her human's attention! She is in a temporary foster home and this is where we learned of her deep love and protection of her people in her home. This is what we have been told: "Butter (Buttercake) is really the best puppy. She cannot however be in the home without resource guarding me. This was an unexpected occurrence as  she has absolutely no issues around other dogs at the dog park, vet or day camps.   She is crate trained and will self crate so I usually never lock the crate. Butter has not destroyed any furnishings but loves socks.  I am wondering if she is part magpie as she loves to collect things and put them in her crate (including a watch, house slippers and a table runner!). She loves rides in the car but I make sure to tether her as she has tried to climb out the window before I get her out of the car.   She is still nervous about her new home so we have not made it into the street for a walk. But she is good on a leash/lead in the backyard and loves to explore. Particularly in the bushes - adding some dirt color to those white paws!  She does not usually come when called and is not as good motivated as most dogs (gotta LOVE that GP stubborness!).  However, we are learning to sit and she will follow instruction most of the time if there is a treat at stake.   Butter has now been spayed (on the vet’s recommendation) and up to date on all her vaccinations.  We would love to keep her but she is increasingly aggressive with my sons little beagle and their visits will be often now that I live so close to them. She is an awesome dog and will be the best pet where there is no competition for her human’s attention at home". She will be looking for a home with a fenced in yard and a family with LOTS of time and patience to socialize and work with a puppy so she can grow up to be a good girl! ***Exercise and direction are a must as a tired puppy is a good puppy!!  We do suggest that if you are not familiar with the Great Pyrenees breed, that you do some research on them before you meet Buttercake as Great Pyrs are a FABULOUS breed, but they are different than Golden Retrievers in some big ways. If you are a Great Pyrenees lover, you will know their delightful stubborness is what makes them so fun and challenging just the same!! To know the Great Pyrenees breed is to love them! Buttercake will need a home with a fenced in yard as this breed love nothing more than to hang out in the yard, patrol a little here and there and watch the world go by. After some work and socialization, we believe she will make a wonderful family pet, but her family will need to be committed to the time and patience she will need to help her through her adjustments and transitions from an outdoor dog to living in a home with a family.  If you would like to meet Buttercake, please fill out an app at grrand.org/adopt GRRAND dogs are looking for their foster or adoptive homes in our current service area of Greater Louisville, Greater Lexington, or Greater Cincinnati and Dayton. Cami is a super sweet, 2 yr old Lab/Australian Shepherd mix but actually looks more like a black lab!   She is being surrendered from her owner’s home because they also have her female littermate and the girls are exhibiting some littermate syndrome and getting into a few squabbles (nothing too bad, but owners think they will be happier separated).  Cami is house and crate trained, although she has actually graduated from using the crate in her current owner’s home! She now has full run! As Cami is an active breed dog, she loves to retrieve balls in the yard and carry around soft toys! Sadly, her owner has moved to a home without a fenced yard so Cami’s days of running and retrieving are over for now, but she sure would love to get back to it ASAP!  She generally interacts well with dogs in public places and loves human attention, but her owner thinks she may enjoy being the only dog or would do better in a home with a submissive male dog.  She is looking for a home with a fenced yard and a family who is willing to exercise her and work with her on leash training (she is prone to pull).  Cami is a beautiful, sweet, happy go lucky girl, who should do really well with a family who is willing to give her love and attention.  Cami lives with 2 cats and also lives with kids 14, 12, 9 and 7. Coco is a beautiful 2 year old, 43lb Goldendoodle with totally gray hair, black ears and TWO INCH long eyelashes!! She is looking for her forever family who can give her the exercise and attention she is needing to be a happy girl. Her family has made the incredibly difficult decision to rehome her and they are feeling she would blossom with a family who is home mostly during the day (she has some separation anxiety hence needing a home with someone home most of the time) and a backyard to romp around throughout the day! Coco gets along well with other dogs (she has been to doggie day care and loved it) and loves people and animals of all sizes and ages. She is a super sweet girl with a lovely temperament! She has typical 2 year old energy but isn’t jumping off the walls, knows basic commands and presents a gentle mouth for treats. Coco does very well on leash without any real pulling and she is responsive to voice commands. Her food/water bowls are in her crate which is where she eats but does not sleep in as she prefers the bedroom area instead and is housetrained with full run of the house. Coco barks a bit upon first meeting but quickly becomes your best friend and enjoys petting nonstop! Coco is a lovable, lively dog who LOVES cuddles!  Coco's mommy says in regards to their difficult decision "I love her more to want her to be in a home with a family that has the space, time to spend with her and financial ability to love and care for her the way she deserves". Calling all Doodle lovers! This bonded pair of sweet girls had a rough start in an Amish puppy mill but have learned that people aren’t so bad. They have been in a foster home since July and are blossoming in that environment. Cookie and Noelle are: ·         Gorgeous, young, medium sized Golden Doodles ·         Joyful, cuddly girls that love other dogs and are happy to sit by you to be petted ·         Homebodies that need a physically fenced yard and someone home more than a typical working family. They show no signs of separation anxiety when left in the house. That means it’s nap time! These girls love to play and start their day smothering their foster brother with kisses before running around the yard and wresting. Cookie and Noelle don’t react to loud noises (ex. TV, vacuum, fireworks) but do skitter away from abrupt unexpected movements so no young children should be in the home. The girls are learning basic commands (come when called, sit for treats) but haven’t ventured out on walks yet.  The perfect owner for Cookie & Noelle will have experience helping unsocialized dogs overcome fears while learning to trust humans.  These girls require direct access to a physically fenced yard and no children under the age of 12.  If you have a lot of love and patience to share with deserving dogs, please submit an application. Cookie and Noelle can’t wait to meet you! show less
