About Jaz - Located in TX
Adoption Fee: $495.00 - Adult Dogs 1-7 Years (2023 fee)
JAZ IS BEING FOSTERED FOR NOW WITH INTENT TO ADOPT. She is undergoing HW treatment. The Shay's will to a foster-pending adoption shortly.
Jaz is a highly affectionate dog that loves to lay on the bed or sofa with you. She wants to be with you every minute of the day, every day. She really wants to make you happy and she loves, loves, loves attention. She does well in a crate, but does MUCH better just being left loose in the house. She is not destructive. She has some separation anxiety, and that shows itself with how very excited she gets when you return. Want a dog that makes you feel super special? Jaz is your girl!! She would be great for a single dog household and someone who is home a good bit and wants to take her everywhere. She would be in absolute heaven!!! She'd make a great RV camping dog! At 50lbs she doesn't take up much room.
She is a playful girl that enjoys people and she will get super excited over a yummy dog treat. As mentioned above, she bonds to her person and wants to be with them alot. She gets jealous when other dogs in the home want her person's attention and then shows reactivity. She isn't into sharing them. Because of that she would be best in a home as the only dog. She doesn't mind so much dogs she sees while out on a walk. Just keep her focused on you and walking forward and she is fine. This of course will improve dramatically the more confident she gets. Obedience training and mental challenges will help with her relationship to other dogs as well. I don't know what happened to her in her prior life, but it has left her with an insatiable need to be loved and with you.
Another question regarding her past is that she has a displaced fracture that was never repaired and has healed with the bones still overlapping. We are waiting on the vet's recommendation. Jaz still enjoys walks, but she cannot do long, strenuous hikes. You can see in her videos that she does love walks!
Jaz is heartworm positive and has begun treatment for that. MAD Rescue pays for her HW Treatment. It is not difficult for someone to help her with this. Heartworm treatment involves 30 days of daily antibiotic pills (almost one with this), injections given by the vet (done twice) and a few months of low level activity that doesn't raise the heart rate. It's a GREAT time to work on obedience, mental exercise and bonding!!
Her current foster is working on her leash manners and she is coming along. She would like to take in other Houston dogs at risk of euthanasia, so we are looking for a more permanent home for Jaz. SHE NEEDS TO BE MOVED BEFORE THE INJECTIONS BEGIN. She is a beautiful dog that really just wants a person of her own. Can you be that person? Are you looking for a dog to call your own? Let's see if you are a match for each other :-). Poor Jaz just wants to be loved.
